I have lived in London, apparently close to the carnival route for 10 years already, yet never have attended or went out on these days or prior to the days of the event. And not because i was in particular avoinding it, it just didn't happen. But last Friday, i had to attend a meeting in kensal rise street. I was shocked of what I saw, buildings, businesses, tge park, everything sorounded with metal fences or wood pellets. When I asked the person i was meeting with what is happening and i got tge answer "Oh, its the NHill carnival!" I thought for myself that it must be smth rotten here if to celebrate smth you have to baricade yourself!
I live in Notting Hill , every year during “ Carnival “ - I have to spend over £700 to stay in a hotel for 3 days , , AND I have to pay towards the costs of my apartment building being completed boarded up/ protected by a surrounding 15 feet tall wooden wall with security guards watching over the entry point through the wall ( costs extra £500☹️ for every apartment owner ) ! ☹️

I Policed 9 carnivals in the 90s. It was crime city. Majority of the crimes went unreported or magically moved to outside the carnival area. It was disgusting and the locals hated being invaded every August bank holiday weekend

In many places the council takes into account the money that will be spent in the community vs the cost of policing and other cost to the council. There does not seem to be an upside to this event. The amount brought into the community vs the costs just don't compute. It would appear that gangs use this as a means to get back at rivals, and the public are in the middle. There were no rape and only two so called sexual assaults. It also lasts five days and typically attracts over 200,000 people each year.
Please show me how this carnival benefits anyone else in the UK whilst the tax payer fas to foot the £12 million policing bill and start to have a grown up conversation

Brighton pride years ago was the best it’s been. Preston park after the event glass & needles and worse is heart breaking. You can’t use the parks for weeks after with children , dogs , family events and football due to items hidden in the grass.
Doesn’t that just show you there is nothing to be ‘proud’ of in these events, and the resulting mess is the proof.

I Policed 9 carnivals in the 90s. It was crime city. Majority of the crimes went unreported or magically moved to outside the carnival area. It was disgusting and the locals hated being invaded every August bank holiday weekend

It's crazy that 3% of the whole population is at one event. that's a whole cities population at one event. 90 arrests is pretty low.
How anyone can come on this show and defend it is beyond me. This government is already on shaky ground after just a few weeks and need to step down for a party who can make the hard decisions that this country needs. The idea of the carnival is to bring communities together and have fun……but that is not what is happening and the government are allowing this to happen.

In many places the council takes into account the money that will be spent in the community vs the cost of policing and other cost to the council.
There does not seem to be an upside to this event. The amount brought into the community vs the costs just don't compute.
It would appear that gangs use this as a means to get back at rivals, and the public are in the middle.
