Mteto Nyati - how Eskom's killing loadshedding, creating electricity surplus

- Eskom chairman Mteto Nyati says cynics are wrong to claim it will be back to loadshedding hell after Election’24 on May 29. He reckons SA’s longest loadshedding-free run in years is based on a solid foundation. The mechanical engineer with an impeccable business pedigree explains how SA’s much improved electricity supply is the result of applying sensible management practices, including performance-related incentives for Eskom staff and productive engagement with its shareholder. He confidently predicts the worst of loadshedding is over, with sufficient capacity coming on stream to support future economic growth. Nyati spoke to BizNews editor Alec Hogg.

Correction Alec. Coal fired power stations are mechanical engineering plants, so Mteto as a Mechanical Engineer is exactly the right person for that job.
Eskom hasn't even had 2 months of ongoing power supply - against 16 years of ongoing load shedding, jobs lost amd the financial collapse of the economy and now Eskom has the audacity to crow about their achievements!!!
Better late then never. Fact remains ; Loadshedding is turning away.
@mabaker391 - my thoughts exactly.
@@elizabethtsotetsi5242 If they can keep this up for 2-3 years, only then will it be turning away. One swallow does not make a summer
Nowhere near as ridiculous as the racists that in 2024 try to tell us what a fantastic place Apartheid SA was. You just naar a black man can do what useless ADR amd Jan could not do
@@user-po3me4gr6g 🤣🤣🤣. Atleast then evetything worked - even the blacks had clean hospitals and well run schools and jobs for everyone...
Let's see if temporary cessation of load shedding is propaganda or not.
Most of the corrupt ones have had their fair share of money and now will be moving on to another lucrative area because they are been tracked by intelligence😅
You mean like NHI?
@@kenernstzen2407Nailed it!
@@kenernstzen2407 They can't even maintain public hospitals 😂I also believe NHI is a scam like Eskom
A true South African hero - thank you for your service Mteto Nyati
Alec is trying very hard to give incompetent Jan and ADR credit. ADR is on record after leaving ESKOM that it cant be fixed now all of a sudden the Verwoerdians come talk rubbish
Well done Eskom
So Pravin Gordahn and his merry mafia have retired - so there's less eaters at the trough!!!
I would only share in the optimism post election.
Loadshedding is on leave until next month, everybody knows this.
Let's see
I really hope all this gentlemen is sharing with us is true and that Escom actually on the recovery road ! 🙏
Who are the stakeholders? WEF and cronies? Asking for a friend....
Convenient timing. Im not convinced. If something did change its not what he is telling us.
Could be something as simple as the correct coal is now being delivered.
The cadres have slowed down the steeling for the elections.
WARNING - Unbundling Cartel - Privatization Cartel. WARNING WARNING WARNING. Common Denominator 😮
I am somewhat still mystified, smoke and mirrors here! Anyway the lights are still on, great.
Funnily enough the biggest hurdle in Eskom's recovery was ignoring the climate lobby and doing all the necessary maintenance. They cut out the middlemen who had no incentive to do a good job and handed over maintenance to the OEMs. Let's see how long it lasts - I won't hold my breath. Also in the 32 000 MW capacity we have right now, how much of that is from IPPs? I'd like to know cause that can affect winter generation forecasts.
Excellent work to your board and Bheki Nxumalo at generation. The relief is appreciated 🙏🏽
Have a look at the quantity of electricity produced by Eskom. It started trending down in ‘08 and is still doing so. Private production has shot up, (and the numbers don’t even include solar production on domestic roofs). It is being solved because Eskom created a crisis that customers realised they need to solve themselves.
Here's the reality of the situation: 4GW of solar panels were installed and our foundries have had to shut down until they sourced power from IPPs
Burning diesel 😂like there is no tomorrow 😢
Untrue. Read the official numbers.
@@southpaw63 Yes Stats tell the truth.
Its been really good without load shedding. Soon - after erections - Eskom is going to say "the wheels have come off...." and we'll be back in the dark - hopefully without ANC in power!!
Yeah right, Wait for 30 May...
They've all re furnished their homes and paid for holidays etc - as well as more people are using solar power....
Impressive!
When is load shedding and pice increase going to happen
After elections
All the firs will bs us
I'm proud
Oh please! 🙄 save yourself 25mins.
Siyabongani ☝️❤️✌️🌍🙏
Alec lacks understanding that mechanical engineers are as essential in the generation of electricity as electrical engineers.
Andre was a HUGE mistake in Eskom.
Skelm pushe
I WOULD LOVE TO BELIEVE HIM BUT IF HE IS ANC THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO BELIEVE
Bright future 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
BYE BYE EISHKOM
Retireing ingeneers assisted this project
He's a liar. Anc cadre that cannot be trusted.
He's not. Where do you get that nonsense from? If he were one, then I would be fine with a competent engineer who's never worked in government.
These people are so racist it's disgusting..Just because he is a black man
So many racist comments just because Mteto is black...and he has no association with the ANC...but because he is black and the chairman it means he is part of the ANC
Well that's what doomsday wishers do. they don't want loadshedding to end.
