    That's a very cool rifle. I don't know if i could shoot a .300 Win Mag that many times and keep it on paper! 😮

      Hey Eric, Thinking about getting a 25-45 Sharps barrel to replace a .5.56 barrel on one of my AR's...Is that something you can do at your shop?

      Absolutely.
      The 300 Win Mag does not discriminate either ...
      It will kick you in either shoulder.😅

    Very nice rifle! In my opinion, the 165gr is the best all around option in the 30 caliber for hunting close to long range. 600 yards being plenty far enough.

    My first magnum rifle was a Browning A-bolt in 300WM. Bought new in 1991 and still have it today. Shoots 150, 165, 180, and 200 grain bullets in the same small group. Handloads of course. Love that rifle.

    The 300 Win Mag may be 60 years old, fortunately it just gets better with age. I shoot 270 WSM and 300 win mag, love em both. The 270 is great for longer flatter trajectory but the 300 puts meat in the freezer every shot. I enjoy your videos, keep en comin.

    My dad traded in his pre64 in 308 for the new 300 win mag in 1963 and hunted with it for 30 years and took a ton of elk with it! Still one of the best for elk!

    Love the 300 win mag! Have shot them and 300 ultra mags here in Montana for the past 17 years and love them still to this day. Current 300 win is in a Christensen Ridgeline shooting 210 bergers a 2990 fps. Shot deer, elk and antelope with this load and it is an absolute hammer. Great video! Cheers from Montana.

    Very nice rifle. As age sneaks up on us all, might I recommend trying a Limbsaver recoil pad on your BAR. Part #10800 Airtech, specific fit for wood stocked Browning BAR rifles. You will be amazed at the difference in the felt recoil. My main hunting caliber is the 375 H&H magnum, and at the doorstep of 60 years old, with diagnosed bursitis in my shooting shoulder, I've fitted them on many of my rifles for more comfortable shooting experience. My wife now shoots even my 458 Winchester magnum with no problem. As for your 300 Win mag loads, have you tried any of the Barnes bullet loads? Usually very accurate.

      Thanks for your suggestions and for watching. I had a poor previous experiences with "Mono bullets" in the past. Yes the animals were recovered but in some cases after a bloodless track for up tp 1/2 mile. So my confidence in cup and core and or Bonded lead bullets has been prevalent ever since.

    I've never found good groups whilst switching up different bullets...I only foul a clean barrel with the rounds I'm testing, then after a little cool down go at it looking for groups..its like the rifling gets cranky with different copper traces otherwise. Love that BAR!

    Mine inherited from my grandfather will do just over 1 moa with 200 grain and 1 moa with 220 grain . With 168 grain my groups look like yours.😊

    Dave shooting the 300 Win Mag that many times might cause shoulder fatigue It will make you appreciate the 6.5 Grendel all the more. I once shot a Buck with my Ruger M77 300 Win Mag. At under 30 yards away . Needless to say he didn't go to far. Have a Wonderful Weekend.

    Love that gun! You should always include a couple groups from your 25-06 in the same video. Arguably the greatest 1-2 punch for any hunting in the Lower 48. Put a bag of frozen peas between shoulder and butt. Will spread out recoil and get a head start on icing the shoulder down. Thanks, Dave!

    Sweet squirrel rifle, Dave 😅
    I'd say the first 3 shots were the barrel getting re-seasoned. I watched a competitive shooter last week talk about always putting a few rounds through the barrel after a cleaning before the games begin else they will not group tight. So, I think you are good, but I love your laughing at yourself.
    Sorry you didn't draw a tag. Are you going out deer hunting this season, though?

    Wish the 300 got more respect in the hunting community. It really is a fantastic cartridge, and very manageable recoil for what it can do. Most hunters nowadays cant take a lil recoil, and shoot only short action cartridges. Dont get me wrong they have thier place, and yes it is a bad thing to have to much power if your hunting certain game. Though i dont like seeing animals suffer or get lost and not get harvested due to bad caliber selection.

    • @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
      @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009  Před 11 měsíci +1

      The 300 magnums are great, and can be calmed down with light loads if recoil interferes with accuracy and the range practice necessary to achieve hunter shot placement confidence. Thanks for your comment here.

    If for some reason a 30-06 doesn't seem the ticket, a 300 Win Mag is. There is no reason to use anything else for Alaskan game or in the lower 48. Except sissies need to come up with silly new things, like the creedmore, etc.

    I have my grandfather's BAR 300 mag type 2. Im having feed issues. Are there any suggestions? I was thinking it is a mag issue.

    • @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
      @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009  Před 9 měsíci

      Feeding issues need clarification. 1. Failure to go all the way into the chamber? 2.Failure to pick up the next round? 3. Failure to lock back after the last round? Each are related but can have different solutions. A good gunsmith is suggested for a fix.

    • @bryanbreckenridge7964
      @bryanbreckenridge7964 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 failure to pick up the next round. The seems to get stuck between the mag and the chamber. My grandfather bought this gun in the early 70s and probably hasn't been cleaned properly for 40-plus years. Only basic bore cleaning and bolt lube. I'm not sure if you have ever broke your gun down and cleaned parts that can't be cleaned with a basic lube and bore cleaning. 40 plus years without properly being cleaned, and now just having an issue is a testament to the quality. I will look for a video of a breakdown of the gun to see if im capable of breaking it down and buying a new mag before i bring it to a gunsmith.

    Nice looking rifle but horrible groups. My magnums, 7STW & 264mag, in bolt-actions shoot consistent 3-shots under an 1” at 300yds. Both have match barrels though…Krieger…with Nightforce NXS scopes 5.5-22x.
