Being a Chinese We used to Look Up to USA all the time. When I first went to USA to study for Master’s in 2004, I was shocked that every American family has cars, I was very envious. At that time, only Rich families in China could afford cars. Fast forward to 2024, now almost all Chinese families have cars, often more than 1. And we produce and export cars now more than anyone else. Now in Fortune 500 companies , USA has about 130, while China has more than 140. It’s nothing short of a miracle even for us Chinese.

China had to fight hard to get their great country back from foreign invaders. And China has done that many times in their 5000 years of civilization. India is not like that. India was not a country until the British came to annex all tribes. Basically india didn’t do anything themselves and didn’t fight hard to become a country, but let the British doing all the annexation, invasion and land grabbing from neighbouring countries like the McMahon map illegally taking land from China 🇨🇳 that led to today’s border dispute between China and India.
China still has to face with unfair treatments, sanctions and oppression from western countries while India is still getting support from western countries. Like now western countries constantly accuse China for selling and buying from Russia and thus they sanction Chinese companies while the west allow India making huge profits from selling Russian oil to Europe. See the big difference?
To sum it up, China has to do all the hard work fighting by themselves against the outside powerful forces while India doesn’t have to do that like China did and does while India still gets more help and support from foreign powers. And China is much more development when doing all the work by themselves. India getting all the help from foreign powers and gets favourable conditions and deal but still is lack of development. Market economy is about competition. Competition is about comparing to others as motivation. Without competition for the ranking, Olympic athletes would not ran as fast as possible. It is the same for business world.
Monopoly or harmony relationship among business is considered violation of antitrust law. The purpose of antitrust legislation is to keep business competing/comparing with other others to boost innovation and economic progress. Economist study indicates that harmony relationship and collectivism inhibit innovation; Individualism liberates innovation/creativity.

As physician, we always try to connect dots to get a single diagnosis to explain all symptoms. Here is single most consistent factor obviously present in all those regions. It is also true for all highly developed nations, which often share one or two common factors. Long civilization is obviously not the answer for China achievement if you consider all other ancient civilizations.

There are some obstacles that can deter a country's progress or even stall it from becoming an advanced economy even if it has good governance. These obstacles are beyond the control of the government. They include.
      1. Frequent natural disasters
      2. Unfavorable terrain eg. being too hilly or densely forested
      3. Lack of natural resources, especially water and arable and habitable land
      4. Being landlocked
      5. Being surrounded by poor and unstable neighboring countries
      6. Being too remote
      7. Being too small in size
      8. Crappy climate eg. being too hot, tropical or cold
      9. Effects of global warming
      10. Invasive plants, animals and insects
Contrary to the belief of some classical economists, it's actually not possible for every country to become an advanced economy just like it's not possible for every person within an economy to be a millionaire.

All the 3 factors stated in this video, namely FDI, Infrastructure and Education are being pursued in India, but India’s progress is nowhere as rapid as that of China. The makers of this video have omitted to mention an important factor and that is that the Chinese are not encumbered with the restrictions of democratic system of governance . They run a command economy under the dictatorship of the CPC.
It appears that by and large this dictatorship has been benevolent and is working in the interest of the Chinese people. The Chinese have always been fiercely nationalistic and proud of their culture. In the Chinese culture the authority is respected and there is lack of questioning culture and of open discussion.
India is exactly opposite. It is anarchic and always quarrelsome. There has always been the tradition of debate. This approach is well reflected in all the classical Indian discourses on religion and philosophy. There is no way Indians can be regimented.
On top of this India has adopted the democratic form of governance. If a government proposes to do anything, there will always be objection on the environmental grounds or some other grounds. There will be court litigations and delays. The opposition parties capitalise on this descent to score political points.
The questions that should therefore be asked are: Can a poor country like India afford the luxury of democracy in its present form? Is it right that just to satisfy a handful of chattering classes, the overwhelming number of poor Indians are condemned to live in subhuman conditions?

I am pondering the same question myself on what I can do to help my country knowing the red tape challenges and including just to get access, be heard or come in close proximity to the people with the most power in government.

China has made rapid progress in tackling corruption. Those SOEs would not have survived if China was corrupt

  • @MASMIWA
    @MASMIWA Před měsícem +21

I think you left out private enterprises from the equation. The likes of Huawei, Tencent, BYD, Alibaba, etc are not SOE nor funded by FDI.
In education, you fail to mention the focus on STEM which is the core of China's technology rise and is the reason it will surpass the west in technology in the future. The west cannot field the manpower needed to lead in the multitude of sectors of technology that China can. In fact, one of the reason for America's success in technology has been its attraction of the smartest Chinese, Indians, etal that migrated and become citizens of the US. Unfortunately that trend is diminishing and with the Chinese, there is a reverse brain drain.
However, your points are very compelling to the reasons why China rose so fast. I would only add that the Chinese are willing to work hard and long hours that makes them competitive in almost all areas of business they choose to pursue. Everything from agriculture to restaurants, you will find Chinese working long hours and have created efficiency in their particular discipline. As the US is finding out, throwing money at a problem is not the total solution. It requires a dedicated and hard working workforce to compete on the world stage.

India has the same potential as China. Indians love their country, are honest, very hard working and excel at sciences and math. They've made great strides in improving their economy in the last 15 years and are part of BRICS which will help them rise further.. The things that go against India in its economic journey are its religious myopia and constant meddling in the internal affairs of its neighbors to destabilize them. If India were to embrace its religious minorities and the Kashmiris and stopped flexing its military muscle on its neighbors for at least 50 years, it will become unstoppable as an economy.

The one common denominator that defines the far eastern oriental races and separates them collectively from the rest of the world is culture. Whether within their original motherlands or as part of the great diaspora globally, the integrity in culture is maintained in all these races.
And the essence of that culture has not only remained generally the same geographically but also through time. That is the only “secret”!
