I'm guessing you broke this down in to smaller steps and small sessions to start? I"m starting with an extremely abused and fearful pony but she was delivered with halter and lead on, she was used for wild pony races ugh. She's doing what she was conditioned to do. I havent been able to get close enough to get the lead and halter OFF. She's in a safe enclosure and I'm trying to do this on her own terms. Old school would be to lunge her until shes tired. This pony will run for also as long as you want to stand there and make her move. Today I sat on the ground and I used food. She let me scratch her forehead. I would just touch the lead or halter and reward her and I let her leave if she wanted to. That was our first mini session. four hours later I came back to work with her again. She started walking towards me. So I sat on the ground and did the same thing and was able to pick up the lead and have her take two steps forward and that was the end of that session as the main herd went out to the back pasture and she wanted to trot to the fence and watch them go. Pretty good session. She's extremely watchful, extremely smart. She's been tricked over and over and you can tell that she knows. I"m not going to just rodeo this pony and force her to do things. Any advice at all for building trust with her would be extremely appreciated.

watch some of those mustang makeover vlogs, they sometimes go through the steps of taming wild horses and training them for adoption.

I stopped watching at 3:25 It isn't loud enough, a microphone is missing (or subtitles instead).
