Whenever I see this video of this woman, I just get angry at how incredibly entitled she's acting.
She came to the Netherlands, without a work visa, with a child, without knowing anything about the country or speak any of our official and recognised languages (including English,) thinking she could find a handsome guy who'd give her handouts, thinking any company would risk being completely destroyed for allowing illegal workers, claims we're unfriendly for not walking up to random strangers, thinks it's rude to warn people who are putting themselves into danger by standing in the bike lane, thinks bikes are something horrible, claims this is a car free country, while also complaining about cars, hates the canals the country is famous for, thinks the ENTIRE country is super expensive, but seems to have only been to central Amsterdam, and to top it all off, she doesn't like the fact that it snow during winter.
She came unprepared and put her child at risk in her selfishness, but blames it on the Netherlands.
So I hope that kid ends up growing up to be a much better person, because if he turns out to be only slightly like her, I wouldn't want to meet him as an adult ever.

      Hi Void,
Thank you for the comment. I think you nailed every point.
It’s really sad she dragged her son into an avoidable situation. If only she did her research and came prepared, her life would have turned out better. With the level of ignorance she exhibited in this video, I can only hope the best for her child 🤓

You know what the most hilarious part is? That her original Spanish video (I speak Spanish so I wanted to compare both videos) sounds very different from the English video. She complains in the English video that people in the Netherlands speak very broken English yet the English video wasn’t recorded by her.. you can tell that she had someone else record it in English because she herself most likely doesn’t speak English.. the irony

And about all other topics.... she had a bad experience. That can happen. But it doesnt sound like she did to much effort for finding help and answers because foreighners get so much help here🤭🤭 and almost everybody speaks (good)english.

If you read between the lines, she showed up illegal (from an unspecified Non-EU country), with her son, hoping for an attractive man who would be generous and do handouts. Also, the fact that she's dubbed in the video, implies she doesn't speak English, which is the main way Dutch communicate to non-dutch. If you take that in to account, she's perfectly right, the Netherlands is a horrible place.... and Amsterdam is really expensive, that's facts.

People that sleep on the street do this by choise ore refuse help.

Dear Josephina, I like your comment, I been born and raised in the Netherlands, and been a lot of times to Thailand where ordinary people are the same as the ordinary people as in the Netherlands. She is comparing the money she needs to stay an a Hotel opposite of her home in her native country. And yes it is cold in the winter. And no cars... where did she get all the information. To get benifits you need to work in the Netherlands. So she knows nothing. Greetings, Roelof

It sounds like someone read 2 articles about how perfect a country is, did 0 research on language, culture, laws, climate, cheap/expensive area’s, the jobmarket and so on.
If she planned to move here, she would have been better off visiting once or twice (and not just Amsterdam), looking into affordable hotels and requirements for jobs etc.

That lady came to the Netherlands and of all places Amsterdam with almost no money and expected to find a job and a cheap place to live in the city center :D , she has minimal language skills for her video she rented someone to do the English, yes it is dubbed over, in Amsterdam you can manage very well with only English, but Spanish? that will be hard.
So instead of learning of that experience that she had better prepared herself she decided that it is not her fault and started to whine about it.

As someone who has travelled Europe pretty extensively often relying on the hospitality of complete strangers for a night to sleep and a meal. I think they way you are treated is based on what you put out into the world. I'm currently living in Belgium and it is said they'll treat you nice to your face but talk behind your back. Of the french that they are pretentious and won't speak English. I could go on but those have never been my experiences. I,m open and direct and this is how I'm treated. If I'm in a bar and hear an interesting conversation I'll interject and ask if they mind if I join the table. People as a general rule are nice and understanding. Yes there are toxic ones but they are the minority. Culture and heritage are beautiful if you show the same tolerance to each one you have for your own. And try not to be offended when other critise yours there's always room for growth.

There is no doubt though that you have been fooled by the complaining lady. Josefa actually LOVES the Netherlands, and Amsterdam in particular. Her vlog should considered as highly satirical in order to be able to enjoy it.
There are some moments which show that it's all a big joke, like where Josefa complains about the canals of Amsterdam, while at the same time praising the city's beauty.
Happily, Amsterdam is also a relatively tolerant city. Humorous people like Josefa are always welcome!

I just feel bad for this person. She is clearly struggling. The fact that she claims that there are only Burger Kings and McDonald's shows that she never made it out of the tourist traps. This is sadly the experience of many (admittedly gullible and poorly prepared) foreigners. But I find it completely believable that she had a mostly negative experience. While she had no basis to judge from, it can be hard for foreigners to make friends, the Dutch typically have an established friend group since high school. I say this as a Dutch person living in Amsterdam. The cost of living in Amsterdam is high, this is a real issue for people without advanced degrees. Realistically the Netherlands is one of the best countries to live in for the majority of people, but it is not perfect.

I agree that the lady faced some challenges and may have had some bad experiences. What I do not agree with is that she didn't take responsibility for some of the struggles she faced, which to me stemmed from lack of preparation. Every country has places that are expensive and not the best place to live as a foreigner and with little research, these details can be seen and used to our advantage. But none the less, I hope she's happy and feels better in the country she now lives in.

I've been born in the Netherlands and therefor lived there my whole life. I've only been in the city of Amsterdam 1ce. What did shock me the most was how many drug stores there were. In my city there aren't that many. She probably thought that because she had a bad experience in 1 city of the Netherlands it speaks for the whole country. She also was complaining that Amsterdam was so small. The Netherlands is small, of course the city is going to be small. Like how big did you expect Amsterdam to be? The size of the whole country?

I was very touched by your cordial, warm, loyal, and intelligent response.

I lived in Amsterdam for 40 years and in Apeldoorn for 10 years and for some time in Naarden, Leiden, and in a small hamlet near Alkmaar. So I know the whole country pretty well.

Not one clip she used showed she was ever in the Netherlands and all her arguments were stereotypically ignorant... like the American who goes to Italy and wants a big mac. Hallo Josphine (oops... sorry, I said Hallo. Hope you're not offended).
Lol. It cracks me up, every time I see another reaction to this video. For that, kuddos to this lady, who doesnt have a job, but gets a lot of youtube views.
What can you say..../ how do you react to ignorance? You said it well in your closing statement. If you go somewhere, especially if you decide to live there, go and arrive prepared!! If you decide you want to go live somewhere, whether it's a new city/province or country, go visit that part of the world. Look around, see if it's what you thought it would be.
As a Dutchy, that actually left The Netherlands/Holland (lived in RIjswijk/Voorburg/DH area, very close to Delft, for over 35 years), I can LOL about this video. Then again, we had our reasons to leave Holland/The Netherlands and start anew. We decided to move to Canada.
We did prep for our move and it took us 9 years to finally obtain all legal docs and paperwork to make the final move. We visited the country and places where we thought we would start to settle. And still, even after 9 years of prep, the real thing is different then what you prepped for. It is tough to move, let alone to another country/continent (she never says where she moved from). But at the very least you have been to the country you want to live in. You've heard the language/ seen some cities or areas where you think you can settle. It's not the 1800s or early 1900s where Europeans left for the 'American dream', without any notion of what it looks like.
I really like your side of the story, given that you, like me and her, went through the initial "move to another country". I am glad that you and I both are able to settle in and get a good start. This lady on the other hand... Prep/prep/prep. IE don't like snow? Don't go in winter time (spoiler: winters in Dutchyland are not that cold. Don't ever think of moving to the Great White North!). Research the language they speak, maybe try to get a basic language course, before moving (by listening to the computer voice, I reckon she doesnt speak English??). Don't like bicycles? Don't go to The Netherlands (or, like me, Leave!). Get your paperwork in order, before moving. Maybe apply online to find a job (or make more silly youtube vids where people can react to).
All in all, thank you for your reaction. It's great to see the familiar sites of Delft, on you channel. Please keep adding to your content.

  • @_JoyceArt
    @_JoyceArt Před 2 lety +3

I think it’s a parody video, but assuming it’s not: living in big cities is always more expensive than in neighboring cities. Especially if they want to live in city centers.
Most Dutch speak English, hardly broken, but many will have an accent. My guess is her own English isn’t very good, the video is dubbed….
I read in another comment that the original video is in Spanish, which many of us don’t speak, I do, but I’m an exception. So if that’s the only language she speaks fluently, then there’s a reason why she couldn’t find a job.
However, In particular in Amsterdam, there are foreign students who work in shops and don’t speak Dutch. But even here in the south, I occasionally get helped in English.
As long as people speak English or Dutch, there’s work, even for jobs that require interaction with customers. I know there are agricultural jobs, where even that isn’t necessary.
Again, I think it’s a poorly executed parody, but either way she manages to mainly make herself look bad.
