YOOO. My introduction to lupan was a few years ago when I found this movie on netflix. I really enjoyed it
@shlirby8411 So glad to hear it! (๑^‿^๑) We have to say, Cagliostro is definitely a great way to get introduced to the franchise! The movie’s pacing and story are both so well thought out, thanks to Miyazaki, no doubt lol
I’ve been hearing of Lupin since I was young and now I’m finally convinced to watch it. And I know I’ve mentioned it before but I’m really loving the explained ties to history with the animes. Will def watch it this week!
We’re so glad you find those parts interesting :) We think it’s really fun to see the thought process behind why the creators may have done things the way they did and what their influences were. If you have the time we’d love to know your thoughts on the film.
I find that fun too, as I do this film! It was enjoyable, the animation and some other aspects made me think of Batman the Animated Series hehe. Glad I finally got to watch something of Lupin.
This is one my favourite anime films alongside Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, Mind Game, and Your Name.
castle of cagliostro is truly a great movie, but dont forget lupin is a giant series with many seasons like part 6 that just finished. and alot of movies. part 1 was a great and funny series. good rewiew tho C:
A fantastic review for a fantastic movie! Sure making me feel old with all the nostalgic talk lol. You should check out Venus wars… that’s also an late 80s flick.
Love the channel and keep them coming 🥳
I like The Castle of Cagliostro it's story is wholesome and action packed, the artwork is beautiful and the music is amazing 10/10
Also I know this movie made Lupin to more like a gentleman or a knight in shining armor but personaly I prefer Lupin as slightly psychic pervert that's fine with killing and would do more then cuping a feel on a girl if giving the chance like in the manga or in the 1978 movie Mystery of Mamo... But hey you can injoy whatever you want
20/10 Review, actually learned a few things I didn't know about the franchise. I'm also glad to find other people who like the franchise, and show appreciation for this movie in particular since it is *cough cough* The Best Lupin III Movie. Out of curiousity, I heard that Miyazaki only had three months to produce this anime. Since you said 7 and a half I'm now wondering if the last review I saw missed anything.
To my knowledge, Miyazaki and crew started writing and storyboarding in May 1979 and it took 3 months since the original story was too long for the runtime. In July 1979, animation work and the literal production of the film was started. The film was completed at the end of November 1979 for its theatrical debut on Dec 15th or 16th, 1979. That is 7.5 months total with 5 months dedicated to producing the actual film. By the way, that is absolutely insane. A quality animated film usually takes years to create and this was done in mere 3 quarters of a year with the kind of quality that is good even 40 years later.
Our company did the English subtitling for Cagliostro and I had a hard time finding out how Hayao's name was read. It was written with a single character 駿, normally read "Shun." I later discovered it was read "Hayao."
I don't need to be sold on Ghibli and Miyazaki, but I'm still interested in your observations and analysis.
Thanks (⁀ᗢ⁀) and Duly Noted! Miyazaki has always been a huge favourite of ours here at Lazy Lion, so any chance we get to look into his work further is a bonus for us ~
"Spirited Away" is a kind of "isekai fantasy" and there are many forklores about traveling another world, but many of us have experienced europian RPGs or adventure movies full of monsters, fairies,half-naked girls, when young...
We actually released a whole episode covering this film where we break it down scene-by-scene (Season 2, Episode 3). Would love to have you as a listener!
this should have way more views! that lip syncing was really cool
Thank you! Your comment really made our day :D
