About Me
“The world needs more makers.” ~ RoyerX
Being from a family of creatives whose motto was to produce not to consume was etched into Kyle from a very early age and being educated at home gave him many opportunities to work hard at his own creative pursuits.
At eighteen, Kyle graduated high school and two weeks later received his Journeyman Smith Stamp and a rare double win of the George Peck Award and Bill Moran Award, “the 18-year-old prodigy”, “the blazing bladesmith” was what BLADE Magazine labeled him. Following that victory in November, 2009 BLADE Magazine ran a special five page spread “That Young and That Good”, the article went on to say “His ability to masterfully execute new designs, processes and artistic damascus patterns is remarkable. In spite of his young age, his fit/finish and attention to detail is representative of some of todays most known and sought after makers.” He was one of two to achieve Mastersmith by the age of twenty. His knives and his skills are highly sought after worldwide.
In the early years, if you weren’t at a knife show or a hammer-in, learning from the masters, information was hard to find, there was no online content and only a few books and videos, so it was a lot of trial and error in the knife shop. Kyle is passionate to teach makers his more than fourteen years of experience.
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” We hope we can inspire you on your maker’s journey.
Thanks for watching
Enjoy!

Great work DAD excellent result, the vid was great also (thumbs up).
I normally gravitate to the more instructional style vids, but after having my car catch on fire yesterday, I really needed the light-hearted format. You boys made my day a little better, thank you.
Hey Greg sorry to hear about your rig. Is everyone ok. We’re glad we were able to lighten your load even if it was only for a moment. That lines up with our company mission statement. Good to have you here hanging out with us all.
Dad
Great job Mr. Royer I will be taking the course as soon as I get the tools I'll need.
Hey William that’s great. They use me as a guinea pig around here in regards to the online courses. I’ve had many first time things done in using Kyle’s detailed online courses. It’s really launched my knife making skills. Cheers from the Ozarks my friend

Dad
I love it. Bravo papa Royer
Grazie my friend.
Glad you’re enjoying the vids.
Be careful and be safe. 👍🏻🔥🗡☕️
Dad
since finding the Royer family videos I have adopted the technique of super gluing small parts to wood for grinding. In a similar way I have started gluing small chunks of deer antler to a square block of wood so I can run the rough end through a mitre saw to make both ends parallel.
thanks for the inspiration guys!
Hey good to know Jesse. Good to have you here on this journey together.
Dad
Great series, I really enjoyed it.
Thanks Redhawke
Dad
Beautiful work

Thanks my friend.
Really good to have you here hanging out with us all. Cheers from the Ozarks.
Dad
That knife deserves one name due to that handle: Starry night. Freely inspired by Vinvent van Gogh.
Hey copy that Roland 👍🏻
The team here agree.
Be careful and be safe.
Dad
Nice work dad !
Hey thanks my friend.
Glad you’re enjoying the vids Ricardo
Cheers from the Ozarks
Dad
Wow that's nice. I liked the idea of leaving the tape on when sharpening. Made me nervous cutting that a thin Groove in the handle piece with that cut off wheel
Hey Ian thanks. Thought about using a gas powered concrete saw, but it just felt like a little much 😆🤣🤭😉
Love blue and green tape 👍🏻🔥☕️
Cheers.
Dad
Great job Dad! Even through the critique, you could see the pride on Kyle's face.
Thanks Wayne. Kyle is currently my favorite 1st born son. I’m very fortunate and blessed that I’ve got a great family.
Good to have you on this journey together with us.
Dad
how can i polish the guard without that machine? LOVE THE KNIFE!
Wow!!!!!!!! Greetings from Bavaria!!

Hey thanks Darren. Good to have you here hanging out with us
Be safe and be careful my friend
Dad
FANtastic.
Thanks
I find the "dad" episodes very entertaining. Whole family is great. Btw Josh, I don't mind him saying "alright" a bunch. After all, he's not a professional public speaker 😝. Your editing skills, however, are getting better than a lot of contemporary television. Thanks for the great content!
Sanguine Moon thanks a lot! I really appreciate that! -Josh
11:33 that expression lol
Good times my friend
Happy new year
Dad
Looks master smith quality to me..... nice job

Amazing job, Dad!
Thanks my friend
Good to have you here hanging out with us all. Hey what does the (Z) stand for.

Dad
@@KyleRoyerKnives my name, Zachary. I have a Facebook page called Z Blades which surprisingly wasnt taken. I'd be honored if you checked it out! I haven't been making knives long, but it has been something I've wanted to do most my life.
Hey Z you’re look’n good. We will be at Blade August 7-9 bring some blades and we might run into you there. We’re at 7-P, or 7-O.
Team Royer
Jeff love the music from the workshop band, just disappointed that you did not sing in the awesome voice tune at the end of the video! 🤔 Had a very good laugh at the cordless Dremel tool!! You do need to work with Kyle to improve his aim and timing 😉 I was very surprised to see the camera could not handle the awesomeness of working the chop saw grinding in the grove in the pommel😭 Loved the video and the humor worked into it. And congratulations and well done on such a awesome bowie knife and tell Kyle he may use your knife as a display unit only if he helps with more videos such as this series 🤘🏻🤘🏻👍🏻👊🏻
Hey thanks YogiSip. Good times. Got more com’n. 👍🏻🔥☕️🤙🏻⚔️
Gonna be at Blade August 7-9.
Are you gonna be able to make it.
Cheers.
Dad
Your channel is so under viewed. I hope your audience increases there is so much great info on your channel. Would you mind if I post a link to your channel on a facebook group I belong to to called Vashti Grinders?
Neil Yakuza glad you like the videos, sharing our channel is much appreciated! 👍🏻 -Josh
Great work, Royer Sr. Do I see your pommel a bit rounder than Kyle's? I like it... and the spacer between the guard and the blade I can't decide if I like it better with 2 or 3 grooves. Lovely in any case
Thanks my friend. Yes my pommel is a bit thicker. Kyle has three grooves also but his center one is sweet and narrow with black background. I tried to duplicate Kyle’s but I got my center groove too wide. I like mine but Kyle’s is super sexy. Cheers.
Dad
@@KyleRoyerKnives Just one slight criticism.. I get the circular saw joke, but maybe somebody doesn't... and you don't want to be responsible of any amputation, do you? ;)
very nice
Nice job, Dad!
👍🏻🔥☕️🗡thanks my friend.
Dad
Any thoughts of making a spring assist in the future??
Funny you should ask Mr215. I recently started thinking about building a folder 👍🏻🔥☕️🗡
Glad you’re here.
Dad
Great Job Poppi Jeff. I'm caught up, now to wait for the next Video. Still waiting. Still waiting. LOL God Bless
Thanks Michael. Still filming, still editing, still finalizing 👍🏻😉🤣. Glad you’re here. May God bless you and your crew.
Team Royer
The polishing looks so cool that I almost cried. Can I use diamond paste 0.1 micron for the same result? What grade of stainless steel did you use?
Thanks my friend. Good question. Not sure, .1 micron should be.1 micron. The difference may be as simple as the toughness of the grit. Ease into it on a sample piece and get a dedicated buff wheel. The ss is 416. Fairly easy to machine and sand.
Team Royer
@@KyleRoyerKnives Thank you.
Amazing job 😁👌🥰
Thanks my friend. Corona free Hugs and kisses back at you. 👍🏻😆🔥☕️🤙🏻

C major and A ninor on the Beltgrinder. :D more of that please. this is Entertainment! :) ;)
Great job, Dad....Jeff. Soooo - helium in the metal shop? Who knew that was a thing? (Really nice knife) May have to expand my woodworking tools to include a smithing area.
Thanks Colin
Don’t forget to keep those old corded tools. They eventually make great cordless ones 😆😉🤭
Glad you’re here.
Dad
Very nicely done! Hey just curious, do you think you'll ever join the ABS, Pops? I really gotta get myself one or two or those scotch bright wheels, the seem to work magically for the step between shaping and finishing all those finicky areas on the fittings. Thanks as always for sharing, I'm looking forward to seeing what you all have planned next. Take care and God bless. ~Paul
Thanks Paul
Yes I joined the ABS earlier this year. We will be at Blade this year on August 7-9.
If you’re able come and look us up.
Dad
KyleRoyerKnives - That's awesome. I think your main barrier to the JS stamp is simply the time required to be an apprentice. I wish I was going to Blade, I've never been yet. I hope you all have a great time over there.
Nice Job Dad
Hey thanks nevsur. Glad you’re enjoying the vids my friend
Dad
@@KyleRoyerKnives nothing to thank Dad, it makes a lot of Fun to watch!
It’s hilarious how you guys just keep throwing shit at Dad and he takes it like a champ! Congrats on a beautiful proper Bowie knife Dad!
The key to keeping your superglue from plugging up is putting it in a ziploc bag or airtight container and storing it in the freezer. Hope that helps you out in the future
Hey thanks Tsuji
Glad you’re here.
Dad
What was the song they played with the tools? Also did anyone else have a strange sound whenever dad would talk again?
I was getting really annoyed at dad for starting just about every sentence with "Alright", so I decided to put a funny sound effect every time dad says "alright" (payback). It made me happy. :D ~ Josh/editor
Hey my friend
It’s the “Popcorn song “
Glad you’re enjoying the vids.
Dad
@@KyleRoyerKnives Dad, can I get my allowance early? I need one of these kits.
@@KyleRoyerKnives Thank you, to both of you.
Not til you clean your room 👍🏻🤣☕️
Royer Family, what is the name of that buffing wheel you guys used to get those tight area scratches out? I think Pops Royer said it was an "Idium buffing wheel?"
Hey thanks. I think you’re asking about the 3M scotch h bright wheel.
Dad
@@KyleRoyerKnives Yet another reason why the Royer family is so incredible. They respond to people even though they are one of the biggest names in the business. I love what you guys do.

That Bowie is impressive! How many hours do you think you had into it?
Judson Weida it took 1 month, but that’s with me (Josh) taking forever to set up the next shot. If I wasn’t videoing dad, it would probably take 2 weeks, 8 hour days including lunch breaks and coffee breaks. -Josh
Truly amazing... Nice to see.. And you learn a lot from it..... At the end I saw two beautiful bowies... For sale???? 😉 😉 😉 😉
Hey thanks tony.
Yes they’re both for sale. You can pm at royerknifeworks@live.com
