  • Music teacher and producer responds to Rick Beato's video:
'The Real Reason Why Music Is Getting Worse' • The Real Reason Why Mu...
This is my more philosophical take on ‪@RickBeato‬ 's points.
I fully aware that there are problems with Rick's ideas and since recording of this video I have seen ‪@fantano‬ 's response understood the critical view more deeply as well.
In this video I'm not looking to disagree, rather I try to share and explain how I understand the partial truths in what Rick is saying and what signal in my opinion can we find in his message and learn from if we're open to it.

The same thing happens in art. In the past, artists had to make their own paint. Now anyone can buy tubes of paint and squeeze them inches thick onto a canvas.

I agree with you 100% but I also am 73 years old and have the advantage of remembering the '60's and '70's, "80's and so on first hand. Just a small critique of your presentation today. "Too" easy to get and "too" easy to make are the correct form of the word "to" as it applies to the meaning you intend. (I was also an English teacher).

LOL - Just a small critique of your "small critique" above regarding your use of "form":
      - 'Too' is not a "form of the word "to"" no matter their intent (in the standard grammatical sense of "form" of words as parts of speech) as they have entirely different meanings and are different parts of speech (adverb vs preposition) though they are homophones.
      - Instead of "form of the word", perhaps 'the correct word to use' or 'the correct spelling' would suffice.
      - I'm sure that was your meaning, and most wouldn't catch the distinction, but I didn't want our 'host' to think the two words are "forms" of the word 'to', and thus have the same meaning.
In any case, these videos are marvelous, and always thought-provoking. Also, your calico is cute.

Because American urban culture took over pop culture. Thats why.

Beato is right. Music is being consumed in a completely different way, which of course is going to be mirrored in how music is being written and produced. Back in the old days, you really had to know how to play and sing in order to get signed. but record companies usually gave bands and artists artistic freedom to experiment and evolve. now they tend to stick to the formula. today all music is available for free so we don't put the same value in it. many kids don't even listen to whole songs, they listen to snippets of songs on the playlist.

I agree with what you said. Less is more. My favourite decade will always be the 70s. There is a sonic integrity that comes through (compared to the over-produced 80s for example). I can enjoy songs of different genres and different periods, but there is something magical about an artist playing their creations on instruments. I am a rock fan, but an example from another genre is "Roberta Flack First Time Ever I Saw Your Face 1972". czcams.com/video/d8_fLu2yrP4/video.html

Beato is correct. Today's music if you can call it that, is for the most part garbage. Your view expands upon what Beato posits, and your view is not wrong. However you, young man are an exception, not the rule of that of the masses. You "get it" while so many young people today are idiot automatons who can't even speak, write, do simple math - let alone create or appreciate the deeper/higher dimensions of music.
And yes good music is inspired from some kind of higher plane of existence - a spiritual gift if you will that humans can tap into and channel inspiration from that realm to uplift others or express things that mere words cannot. Mind you there needs to be talent and determination to master an instrument or medium as well, but the sublime aspect is something greater than mere mortal existence.
