The audience listening to his bossa nova at that time is very lucky.

Burton's autobiography has a ton of stories and stuff about Getz and about this period. It's a bit of a tell-all, but I don't get the idea that Gary is bitter about Getz' mercurial nature. Worth a read if you get the time--great book with lots about Getz, Miles, some about Coltrane, Milt Jackson, Rudy Van Gelder, and the list goes on. Gary and Steve Swallow really started working together a lot during this era, and to my knowledge, they are still tight, even though Burton has stopped touring.

When Gary Burton was 17, the summer before he started college at Berklee School of Music, he played on a jazz album with Nashville guitarist Hank Garland (and drummer Joe Morello), was invited to play at Newport Jazz Festival, and was offered his first recording contract by RCA after Chet Atkins recommended him. AGE 17!!!

Faster than usual yes. I kinda liked it. If it was a singer instead of a sax player then yes way too fast. The lyrics would've gone by soooo quickly.

I love Stan Getz and he sounds great but I have to say that I absolutely hate this drummer. It just sounds like needless banging to me. Also Gary Burton doesn’t blend he’s just banging away also . This may be Stan’s answer to the Coletrane sound that was popular at this time.My opinion..
