- What to look for at an auction. Hear about the time Bret bought one at auction (it's not what you think)

Just found your channel. You were recommended by Duane from Dry Creek Wrangler School. As someone who has bought and sold a lot of horses at auction I agree with everything everything you said. What I tell people about horse auctions is " Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see".
The truth
I’ve always only felt comfortable buying loose untouched colts. There’s good money to be made in wormy shaggy weanlings with a tube of wormer, green grass, and some gentling
I never thought of that but Ill bet you are right
Lol! My newbie husband bought a 3yr old pretty, pretty gelding for me while I was in the bathroom several years ago. He was rode bareback with a halter "This good young horse will take you anywhere you want to go. Nothing too steep, nothing too deep!" Yep, and no fence or hobbles will keep him in, either!😂😂😂
lol it happens
Bret,I think you have shared a lot of knowledge in this video everybody should listen to this!
Ill probably get black balled
Horse sales are fun to go to, to watch and learn but buying…never bought one there and like you I learned from the old timers and I’m old! I’ve always gotten my horses through word of mouth.
Iv got them caught a lot of different ways but never a public auction
I have purchased two horses at auctions. Each of them were brought to the auction by pro horse trainer/traders. They bring a dozen or so horses every year. The last horse I purchased, the seller arrived a week ahead of the sale. I got to ride any of his horses, that I wanted. The horses I have bought have worked out very well for me. One thing is for certain, any horse purchase requires a leap of faith of some length. Luckily, all four of the horses I've purchased have worked out as well as I could have hoped.
Buying a horse is a lot like buying a used car. It is buyer beware for each of them
For sure. Im glad your experiences were good ones, not all of them are, but there are a lot of good used horse dealers out there
Thanks for doing these videos man!
you bet
Went to an auction yesterday in KY and saw everything you mention - glad I didn't get sucked in....looking for working cow horse type but was a barrel race community clique too
They are all the same dog and pony show
Been hung up most of my life.. still rollin'
Great show Sir
thank you
very informative
glad you liked it
Very good video.. This Summer there were some very nice horse's at the auctions do to drought in some areas also just this week there were some Very nice horses do to the old people died or got in a car accident and there lazy kid's just dumped them at an auction..but I do see Alot of what your saying at auctions I also see some trader's that go from auction to auction but in that group of trader's there are a few that never get on that comes back when they give a gaurentee as like you said they want to sell you another One also I have saw them pull horses from sales that were misrepresented to them that they took home to put more days on or figure out ..
yeah it takes all kinds
Have you read those Ben Green books? Good stuff.
I sure have, they are great
