It's so unfortunate that toys like this aren't made any more. This was a time when as a kid you had to use your imagination and creative mind to make your own story.
That is why I go shopping for them at Flea Markets and Vintage Toy Conventions.
Haslab, we're looking at you.
Oh god imagine if they rereleased this for an anniversary that would go crazy
I wish. Something this big would never come out today due to manufacturing costs and such. I could totally see a Kickstarter making this happen again though.
@@alucard624 I could see it released via Haslab
@@bigcdub1017 If they fans funded Unicron then a new USS Flagg is possible.
WOW i remeber when the Flag dropped in the stores...i knew one kid that had it....It was so massive to my young self....Swear we had the best Toy's and cartoons....My child hood was the best and STAR WARS, GI-Joe and Transformers where a big reason why.
I wish I could have seen it as a lad. I only saw it in a box one time, never fully assembled. It's so huge to me now as an adult, it must have been mind-blowing to a kid. Agreed, the early to mid 80's is the apex of animation and toys.
Salute I like how you worded that My Ghee. Wish i knew what i knew now and kept my Toys in tip top condition SMH... I wish i could just chill in this guys collection room CRAZY.
No way man, no regrets! Those great memories are because we threw them around and smashed them, not because we stared at them on a shelf or in a package hung on a wall. :D Toys are mean to be played with by kids and meticulously fawned over by adults. lol
I'll do a room tour down the road when I have a vacation so it'll almost be like being there. :D
True Indeed!!! Please do can't wait bout to go break out my Classic GI Joe Marvel comics and go back in time LOL!!
Damn Skippy! These kids today got the shaft on cartoons . And manhood in general
I am officially living my childhood through this video. My brother and I had this and it was the best toy of my childhood. I wish I would of had the foresight to keep all my toys, nothing tops the toys of the 80's
I recieved the Flagg on Christmas 1987 I believe. Unfortunately, In a mad frenzy of excitement and begging my Father and Grandfather built the Flagg in our living room.
Needless to say it lasted there for about 8 or 9 days. Then was disassembled and moved to a old wooden table in the scary basement. And the deck was just laid on it with the command structure. I maybe played with it if a friend or cousin came by. I was just to scared to go into the basement to play. A few weeks later it was boxed up and stored away. Never to be seen again. We moved in 1989. Where my Flagg is now days ? I pray it's in a Chicago museum for all to see
Sorry bro Cobra destroyed it I was there
Omg thats heart breaking!
Man, this is awesome. I need to borrow this for 2 weeks, call my little brother, and build a time machine to take us back to 1986.
Wow! As a huge GI Joe fan growing up in the 80's I am thoroughly impressed! This is amazing and so cool to see with all the extra work you put into this.
Yo Joe!
This is the stuff that dreams are made of.
:D
Basically, THE ultimate playset before Lego 10188 Death Star came out. I have the latter and I feel you, sir.
Arguably THE greatest toy ever. How smart was Hasbro: A toy that ispired so much awe that it lasts into adulthood which is how long it takes to buy one...lol. Back in the 80s parents measured toy purchases with how much utility bills cost. For most folks, if it cost more than one or two monthly bills then you weren't gettin it! And if you did get a big expensive toy, then your parents weren't looking at the merit of your recent behavior. They measured what they thought your overall worth as a person would end up beng. I got the W.H.A.L.E. one Christmas because my parents must have figured that I'd likely graduate college, get a job, go to church and save baby kittens from a burning building or something pretty good one day so...they put out the cash. My younger brother never got more than 2 He-Men and a Battle Cat. But he eventually dropped out of high school, so there you go!
Haha great comment. And an excellent point about bills. There were many days I would have rather had a Flagg instead of heat or running water though. :D
Hilarious Dude ! I dreamed of this and still do! I am 43 and most of my joes are locked away in plastic bins ...
@@flyguy75km Take them suckers out and play with 'em! Ya only live once. 😄
@@utubepunk hopefully he did get them out! I just got all mine up on shelf’s, after replacing all the o-rings last year!
Thanks. I have never seen the Flag in real life, this gave me the opportunity to understand how big this thing really is!
I happened upon this video last year on Christmas morning. I'm now 41 years old and I felt like a kid again 3 minutes in. I wondered why the Skystriker was posed like that and it just now registered that it's taking off. There is an amazing amount of creativity put into this display. When I was around 20 years old, I still ended up in the toy aisle of department stores often, and still do. I really thought that I'd grown up and just glamorized my own childhood. But, 20 more years later, I can safely say that kids in the 80s just HAD IT BEST!!!!!!! We had the best toys, for certain. The first Nintendo came out when I was around 6. But, we still went outside and played sports, or played with toy machine guns and had "battles". We rode around in miniature bicycle gangs. I can't help but feel a tiny bit guilty that kids today are just simply missing out on so much, in general. But, that's another topic altogether. YO JOE!!!!!
Bravo! It came out great! And thanks for the nod. This is a modification every Flagg owner should make.
Thanks for the inspiration! I watched your video many times for guidance as well as encouragement. Like I said in the video I'm not very crafty, but I simply need to have "a far more stately ship" such as yours. Yo Joe!
Man, I just came across this and it brought back some wild memories. I was passed on one of these from my eldest brother. I had it into my adulthood until a couple years ago I found myself homeless. Long story short I lost all my joes and I had probably 8-10 rubber bins of just action figures. But I'm looking to start my collection again now that I'm in the right place
Man! This gave me goosebumps! Your set up looks like the most fun thing ever!
It is! And it still gives me goosebumps every time I see it. :D
@17:00 I always wondered about that. That hook fit perfect on the Sky Striker, as if they knew ahead of time what they wanted to make.
I have watched this video 10 times maybe, I love the custom flag ship, amazing just subscribed.
I don't blame you! I've seen it hundreds of times in person and it still leaves me flabbergasted and gobsmacked. I just added some lights to the superstructure rooms so I'll have to do an update video on that soon.
G.I Joe truly went above and beyond with it's vehicles
True , and some years later we had the mini version from G.I. Joe by the name Micromachines Military and the biggest set was the giant tank that was a playset .
i was born in 75... past the star wars and , right into the age of gi joe and transformers only knew 1 kid who got the Flagg.. he was a hero to us all.
I got this for free from my next door neighbor growing up back in 1988. My neighbor didn't want it anymore. I was so excited. I assemble it and place all of my G.I Joes on it. But unfortunately, when i got home from school, my uncle threw it away because it took up too much space in his apt. I was so heart broken. When my neighbor heard about it, he was going to give me the Cobra Terror Dome as well but i told him no. Thanks for make this video. It brought back bitter sweet memories. But i'm determine to get one again and going to build it like yours.
First off HOLY HANNA!!!!!!! next man you knocked it out of the park brother. It is 2018 when I stumbled across your video. I have been building dioramas for 3 1/2 years and this custom job is top notch, all the respect in the world for your successful undertaking. never loose the love of collecting.
Man this is like a time capsule 😍 10 year old me would have gone mad from entering this room seeing the FLAGG!
OMG, THIS IS AWESOME.
Back in 1985 I would never guess that today this toys would still be around and in such big impact. I still hav my joes but in the closet. Before i had them out in display. Now i see entire rooms filled with them. Im just amazed.
Micheal Merceys Joe collection is so rad!!! Love all his Joe reviews and how he incorporates the Joe cartoon clips!!! Nice work Micheal. Every dude in his 40's who LOVED GI JOE will appreciate his vids/reviews,I know I do!!!!!!!!!
Believe it or not, this was an early inspiration for me to eventually join the US Navy. As a kid, this was my dream toy. I believe it originally retailed somewhere around $100-$120, which was as out of reach then as it goes for on eBay now. Still a blast to watch this video and relive my childhood, even vicariously. Thanks for this!
Thank you for your service, Sailor! ✌️ Glad you enjoyed the video.
I read that the empty box by itself can reach $500 at Ebay.
HOLY SMOKE MAN!!! I'M OFFICIALLY JEALOUS!! Amazing collection mate!!! Keep it up and don't sale them!
Thanks! No plans to sell anytime soon. :D
Great video, although I want to cry when I see my old toys!. The Flagg was one of my favourite toy ever. We built it in the basement, on a blanket, to be able to move it around (a bit). I had removed the pegs that keep the front piece of landing deck secured, allowing us to remove it to stow stuff. As you know, the rest of the Flagg's lower level is simply on the floor (except for the awesome platform you built). I often preferred doing solo missions using the Tomahawk or WHALE, but always returned to the Flagg to be able to include my hundreds of figurines into a major mission. I remember my father paid around $179CND for the set, the most expensive one by far. Still crying on the inside...
The USS Flagg is THE quintessential action figure playset. Seeing one once in person just blew my mind with just how damn big it is. It's no wonder it goes for super high prices online still even with missing parts.
Beautiful custom hull and awesome review! Love that Breaker's blowing a bubble :)
Thanks! Yeah that was a nice touch they added to his 25th Anniversary Comic Pack figure. :D
Nice nod Formbx257
Wakaka, this is the best!
They will never EVER make em' like this again. I remember when this thing costs $99.99 back in the day! Very expensive for a toy back in the 80's. I remember because i wanted it more than anything! 😊😊👌
Yeah, I shudder to think how much it would cost now if they did
ironman734 ...i remember going to my brothers friends house when i was 8yrs old and he had this flag ship in his living room brand new. We spent the whole day playing with it not even realizing how valuable and iconic it would be later on. Thats my childhood memory of this thing! Yo Joe!!!
@@Dragonrider1227 $100 for the USS Flagg in 1985 is the equivalent of $234 in 2018.
@@rocketcon I know, people act like it was so expensive that no kid could afford it, it wasnt even as expensive as a video game console. It undoubtedly was the size that kept most kids from getting it.
Yeah it was too expensive for my folks to buy me.... I didnt know many kids in 1985 that had one... I lived in a very small midwestern town and most families here didnt have much money
my wife already was mad at me searching one up on EBAY! LMFAO this is a true badass carrier! cheers!
I actually got this as a kid as my gift from "santa" one year i spent hours playing with it it was awesome and massive. I still have it in a storage shed at my parents one of these days maybe ill put it back together lol
Amazing Customized U.S.S. Flag man ! That was the coolest G.I. Joe Review I've seen in a long time !
IMPRESSIVE...MOST,IMPRESSIVE.
The force is strong with this ship. :D
Way back in the day I lived in AZ for 7.5 years and during that time I had a friend named Jeremy. His parents were pretty well off and they got him the Flag for Christmas or for his birthday, I don't remember for sure. Anyway, he called me over as soon as it was put together. As soon as I saw it, I was totally blown away. It was MASSIVE!!!! The thing took up almost half his room. I don't remember us really playing with it much, but I do remember it being so big that we were always bumping into it and having to constantly walk around it. A year or two before I moved back to CA, he ended up boxing it up and took back ownership of his room lol. Thanks for the great video and reminding me of how much I want this dang thing lol. Maybe one day I'll get around to making my own 🤔
It’s amazing, I remember my parents only bought me like 7 or 8 figures, but this is a serious collection. A kid from the 80s would meltdown if he could see this 😍,
truly awesome custom! Love the look below deck with the lighting. One of... if not the best GI Joe video I've seen. Great work!
High praise, thank you kindly! :D
I was born in the year 2000 and my childhood was basically playing catch up with the 80s and 90s and for the logiest time I thought that the fortress maximus and the technodrome where the coolest playsets I could never afford. I was wrong.
Your custom Flagg is amazing! From the bunks, to the lockers, the communication room and back, it’s well-thought out and looks awesome. One of my favorite features... the lights! You had me at “condition red!” Nice job on a highly sought-after masterpiece from some of the best years of our childhood. This is why there will never be a time like the 80s and as someone commented before, they’ll NEVER make ‘em like this anymore. Yo Joe!
Thank you very much for sharing!
I absolutely love your customized USS FLAGG!
It’s beautiful! I have one as well and I put some red and blue rope lights to go around the flight deck and the bottom of the Carrie.
It looks incredibly awesome when lit up! I’m 45 and I cherish the 80s when I was a kid and played with all my Joe’s. Such fond memories. I also use my flight deck for a display for my planes, choppers, hovercraft, sky hawks, etc...
This must be the biggest playset ever been produced. There is nothing comparable with that colossal ship
Certainly the longest one ever produced by one of the major toy companies (Hasbro/Kenner/Mattel/Coleco).
Awesome! I have always wanted to see the uss aircraft carrier in real life to see how big it is! Nice collection by the way.
I remember seeing just the BOX for this at Toys R Us, and just staring at it like a museum exibit.
Damn my guy, you just unlocked sooo many core memories. What an amazing collection 🤌🏼👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 this is the absolute best way to display a beautiful piece of art that brought so much joy to all GenX thank you for sharing and I’m super jealous 😂😂.
Nice. Cool playset as is, but the extension and addition takes it to another level. And all on an ocean blue carpet? Perfection. I wish DC Super Powers line would've had a Hall of Justice or Doomquarters playset this impressive.
You did a FANTASTIC job!!! U totally brought me back to my childhood! 👍🏽
This is absolutely fantastic. Gave me a bit of heartache for selling all my Joes back in the day :S Beautiful customization!
Thanks Erwin! :D
Holy Moly dude. I was one of the view back in '85-'86ish that saved and saved...and I remember the day my mom took me to the giant toy store nearest me, Children's Palace (80's Toys R Us) and had the workers get the giant Flagg of the top shelf and I took it home. I had it set up in my room, the only place it would fit, dead center of it lol. It was there for a few months before I packed it up and put it back in it's original box, and there it has remained to this day, residing in my attic currently....along with the rest of my collection from when I was a kid, hoping to one day display it like you and many other Joe and 80's toy fans around the world. That custom base is an amazing idea! This is definitely what I will do one day when I get bust out my collection for display. Any tips on how to create that amazing base would be helpful. Great video. Yoooo Joooeeee!
Got one for our seven year-old son that year. That was a big sacrifice on my husband’s school teachers’s pay in our four young children family. It did take up most of his bedroom floor. But he loved it.
Wow, man. That customization is incredible. It seems endless, too. Love the lighting you've installed to illuminate all your collectibles. Cool stuff!
Thanks!
File cards were great. I wish I could read more for nostalgia. Remember when you could store your File Cards under the tank room in the HQ!? -Loved that toy growing up!
The base you made is awesome! Just goes to show how stuff can be made so much better with thought and creativity.
Great review! I believe this was every boys dream to have in their room back in the 80's. G. I. JOE had some awesome toys, I also loved the artwork too!
Very cool...We all dreamed of this item...the ultimate playset..I actually had a chance to buy one near complete around 7 or 8 years ago. Couldn't pull the trigger..too big for me to display still...Excellent mods on this piece. I still can't get over how huge the thing really is, but a great way to display your Joe collection.
Thanks! Yeah it's not only a large investment of money, but space as well!
Guaaaauuu!!! Beautiful and amazing collection.
Love this episode and you made me want to pick up the USS Flagg for my Vintage GI Joe’s. Just need to make room in my toy room. Lol. All the best. Keep up the great videos. And always a big Thank You.
Thanks,
Tim
My older brother Jim bought this for me in 1985. For some odd reason, roughly 5 years ago I decided to sell it. Even threw in my SkyStriker & Ace... Listed it on Ebay and it went to someone in Canada(maybe you Mike!?😏). I just hope it went to a collector. I sold the majority of the rest of my childhood collection to a local collector: 60+ figures & multiple vehicles (they are in a good home which makes me happy). A huge regret I have and beat myself up daily over it. I do have a small collection left and I am debating on rebuilding my collection and buying ones that I always wanted(all of the VAMP's, Mark II & Stinger etc, etc) I could go on & on with this subject. Your videos are awesome...I try to watch one every AM, gets me through my cardio workout😏💪
Nope, I bought mine in person locally. Thanks, glad you're enjoying the channel. Good luck with your workout, you've got the touch & power! :D
Absolutely amazing!!!
Amazing dude Love it...going to do this top mine.
Good luck!
i was teary-eyed watching this video. amazing work!! this set up is the best display i've ever seen. thank you for showing all the details. i wish i could do this myself.... but at least i could always watch this and appreciate what you've done. :)
That's awesome. :D Glad you like it, feel free to "play" and come visit anytime.
Came across this video around a year ago and inspired me to do something similar to my Flagg. Love the enthusiasm you have for our childhood heroes and villains!!!
I can't fit that monster in my bathtub! Awesome collection! Awesome Video!
Thanks! Yo Joe!
Hasbro NEEDS to bring this back!
Fantastic video! I finally just got one myself and you have set the bar very high on how to display it. Keep up the great work!
I love the custom base. I always wanted this play set when I was a kid.
WOW!!! just WOW.. and ur wife is awesome for being a supportive wife on your YO JOE man cave
She certainly is. Yo Joe! :D
GREAT VIDEO. I am impressed with what you have done. I used to be on a real life Aircraft Carrier named the U.S.S. Nimitz (CVN-68) as part of the F14 Tomcat squadron named VF24 Fighting Renegades as a plane captain. I am wondering if you have ever thought about putting servo motors in the radar dish and weapons systems, or even the hanger elevators?? That would be awesome. Maybe you can do an episode of GI Joe, but like a stop motion animation of the cartoon. I have thought about doing the same thing, when I am able to, and can afford all the GI Joe's, but I think that I might look into getting the Flagg first, the dedicating a whole room like you have done.
I also served on the USS Nimitz CVN 68! 2001-2005. Go Navy! Thanks for also serving. 🇺🇸
This is by far my favorite review! You did an absolutely amazing job on this custom Flagg!
Yo Joe!!
I had a friend and a neighbour with two boys who all loved this show and toy line. I have so many memories of playing with the different vehicles.
What a fantastic video! They do not make grand play set like this anymore .
Thanks! And they never did either with the exception of the Flagg. Never before, never again. :D
Michael Mercy I agree. In 1987 they made the Defiant which is big but not as colossal as the USS Flagg.
I like that. "Red alert. Somebody wake up shipwreck "
That sailor never found a place or situation he couldn't nap. :D
Fantastic video. I always wanted one of these as a kid. Great job.
FREAKING AWESOME!!! brought back memories of my youth & and many adventures that my younger brother & I had with our GI Joe toys, thanks for helping me go down through memory lane!!!...& GOOOOO JOE!!!!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! :D
Awesome!!!! Just subbed
Thanks! :D

I used to sleep on mine every night. I only had one GI Joe figure. I got the carrier for Christmas and I was into Transformers way more than GI Joe. I used up all my Christmas to get the carrier. Any toy I got in between I would always ask for Transformers. The carrier quickly turned into my bed, because I had nothing to play with on it. My parents put it up in the attic when I got older and the pieces melted up their in the hot southern summers. All of my Transformers survived though. THey are all in mint condition too.
Michael, is your Flagg connected in any way to the lower level you made, or just sitting on top of it?
Wow, that's just wow. I know looking at one side, you see all the vehicles and jets on the deck. Yeah that's cool, but spinning around to the other side with all the spaces where guys are doing stuff. That's where I want to sit and floor time (play). When I was kid, there was a kid in my school that had this. Never got to go to his house to see it. We use to trade/borrow toys for the weekends at school. He'd borrow my MASK Switchblade while I got to his Jetfire, things like that. Man this is just cool.
Yup that's the cool thing about the Flagg; something to do on every side. I never got to see a Flagg assembled as a kid either. Would have been even more mind-blowing as a kid considering I was half as big. :D
That base just sets that whole piece off. BRILLIANT addition!!!
Thanks! Yo Joe!
Thank you sooo much! Your Joe's must be one of the most happy toys on planet earth! You can even start a full invasion of Russia or China direct from your collectionroom!!! (When all the other Joe's get out from the boxes and join.)
It's really good that you take care of them all.
Thanks! There won't be an invasion because the Ultimate Flagg doesn't fit through the doorway! But I'm ready in case the Mercy Toy Museum™ ever gets invaded. :D
Maybe some sort of quantumteleportationdevice? (Like in "The final countdown")
Sorry that your Snow Cat got hurt. It was reused for the "Tiger Force". Do you have Tigerforce?
This is so beautiful :D :D
:D
I love these videos man...u have a great collection. Thank u for sharing with us. These Joe videos r like therapy for me lol
My son and I just purchased a USS FLAGG from a collector. We are so excited to build the under structure. Thanks for the video!
Congratulations. Good luck with the build!
I wonder if there is a USS Flagg in Star Trek Online 🤔.
If there is, it should be the biggest ship of them all. :D
As a kid I recieved the Adventure Team Headquarters and the helicopter. I used our pool table in the basement as an aircraft carrier, star ship, island. I could see kids playing for hours with the Flagg as I did with my 12" Joes and the pool table.
Cool inded! I remember putting it together for my uncle when he got it for Christmas. Took me a while, but it was fun. Took up a chunk of floor space in the dining room. Ahh, the simpler times!!
Damn......well, somebody's got to live the dream......much props for preserving out beloved childhood bro.
I have to say that this really takes me back! I grew up with the original GI Joe, Big Jim and other massive toys. I used to have the training tower for the 12" Gi Joe's and that thing was huge! But, my little brother had the FLAGG and boy did we have fun with it!! Your collection is impressive. Thank you for the memories.
Thanks Ismael, glad you enjoyed. Nerdmasté! 🙏
As an Australian-based Joe fan who lacked even the most remote chance of finding this piece as a kid, and would be crippled as an adult by the cost of shipping this beast across actual water, please accept my most gracious thanks for this video. Simply amazing. Your customisation is brilliant and your collection is beautiful.
Haha, no worries! Glad you enjoyed. I only ever saw 1 USS Flagg in stores as a kid, and it was opened and missing parts. I was able to buy 2 incomplete ones from local collectors a few years ago and make 1 complete one. With what I made off of the extra parts I sold off, it didn't actually cost me that much in the end. Might be the way to go if you want to ever own one. :D
Stunning display Michael! Excellent way to creat extra space under the ship, really improves the look and lifts it off the ground to a better height. You've got a stunning collection!
Hey, I’m a Brazilian and we had the GIJoe here as well, but it was named “Comandos em Ação” and was produced under licensing agreement by a toy Manufacturer called Estrela. I was a very lucky Brazilian boy that earned along my childhood at the 80s the HQ, the F14, the eagle hawk helicopter, and about 7 action figures mixed between GiJoes and Cobras. I didn’t even know until now about the existence of this massive Flagg as it has never been released in Brazil....although I think that most figures and vehicles were released by Estrela in Brazil and they are pretty much the same as the US version
By FAR the BEST USS Flag setup I have EVER seen!!! I’m so jealous but at least I know what I’m a be spending my next couple thousands of dollars on! Thanks ALOT!!!!
This is too cool! A cousin of mine used to own this back in the day….but he lived in a different province so I only had 2 days of bliss playing with this toy
I enjoyed every part of your video, GREAT JOB 👍
Best Dam review I have ever seen of this play set...Thank you for your amazing upgrades that you done to it...You made it better then it was new in my eyes...I'm a 89s kid myself...And life long Joe fan... Thank you for sharing your videos... Cheers from southern Oregon 🍻🇺🇸
Such a great idea! That made the FLAGG even more of a beast. Nice job! People who've never seen one in real life, has NO IDEA what a monster it really is. Just sold mine about 3 months ago. Man did it hurt! Still hurts. Got it about a month after it came out and held onto it all these years. Whats even better than the FLAGG though, is you and your wife actually enjoying something together. That's what it's really all about!
what an amazing piece of GIJOE history. You did a awesome job on the customization to it and display as well, I hope one day that I too can own one as well, maybe after I buy my house first. Love this video, best review on the FLAGG .
My younger self would have lost his mind to this custom ship with so many figures and vehicles accessible and displayed. Even as an adult I think I would play with it. Thanks for sharing your awesome collection!
This is it, the toy of toys. Probably the greatest toy ever made.
Man, this is incredible. I've never thought I would own a Flagg again [had one as a kid] because it is impractical spacewise in my office/ mancave but this makes me think it just might be practical after all.
Incredible video. Thanks.
Thanks! The wheels on the base definitely come in handy since the original Flagg is completely immobile and usually results in the struts breaking when trying to move it.
best review great job you did an amazing job putting this all together
I am so envious of you. I've always wanted that growing up.
You did an absolutely amazing job Mr. Mercy! Thank you for the ideas. I subscribed to your channel because of your great narrating, and excellent attention to detail.
Thanks so much Edward!
