Greaves was the 'best this country has produced' | BBC Sport - Sport
Great tribute from the guys.
Saint and Greavsie go down as the funniest sports broadcasting duo ever.
Jimmy Greaves was quite simply the greatest striker I've ever seen - The Best of The Best.
The fondest of farewells to a legend of the sport! 🙏
I had the luck to see Jimmy Greaves play a number of times he and Alan Gilzean were absolutely BRILLIANT
Still feels eerie that he died on the day Chelsea Football Club played Tottenham. The team he scored his debut goal for Chelsea Football Club against Spurs. The other part of it is Chelsea Football Club were playing away at White Heart Lane...condolences to his family. Jimmy Greaves The Goal Machine forever is a Football Legend and will always be remembered also for helping England secure the first ever World Cup. 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🕊🕊🕊
And then of course he went on to be our all time leading goalscorer, very fitting that two of his former clubs where he is held in such high regard played each other on the day of his passing
Was at the match yesterday & to describe the man’s legacy is; 2 rivals who he played for adore him, old men welling up talking about the joy he brought them as kids & seeing a boy no older than 8 in the current Spurs shirt with “Greaves 8” on the back.
The word legend is thrown about so casually but Jimmy was not only a Tottenham legend but a Football legend.
I think that pretty much says it all, it doesn't matter how old you are if you truly love football you know and admire Jimmy and what he achieved. It was fitting that even though us as Tottenham supporters don't agree on much with Chelsea supporters the two clubs played each other. There's an intense rivalry between the two clubs but we could put that aside to honour a man held in such high regard by both clubs, truly beautiful but also extremely harrowing at the same time
Dion Dublin hit the nail on the head when he suggested how good he would be if he played on todays pitches that are like carpet compared to the 60s and 70s. Also don't forget modern balls are lighter and so are modern football boots. Greavsie was quick anyway over short distances, modem boots would have felt like hush puppies compared to the 'Dr Martens' he wore back then. He would have gained extra pace and been even quicker. Forget his 30+ goals a season - he would have been closer to 50 a season.
A true legend and a very likeable bloke as well. RIP
Love Jimmy the very best by FAR , his book is brilliant too.
Yeah. Why the hell was he never knighted. Big mistake we made there.. A true English legend. RIP Jimmy!!
Knighthoods are meaningless when the royal familys full of nonces mate
They didn't even Knight Bobby Moore.
Without a doubt but Jimmy was never one to complain about such things, he'd probably say he didn't deserve one, I and many others beg to differ though
🌹RIP Tottenham Legend✨
Not just Tottenham legend, football legend
from a LFC fan, Greavsie i loved watching him and St. John on ITV.....better than the crap you have now with PC WOKEness pundits and pundits. a genuine superstar goalscorer and one of England's greatest ever scorers...from an Irishman too
RIP Greavsie
Legend .... !!!!!
In the same class as Messi and pele.brilliant player
RIP legend
R.I.P LEGEND 🙏🏻🙏🏻🕯️🕯️🕊️
And I'd love to see Ronaldo and Messi play on some of the pitches that Greaves played on.
Deon is wearing glasses... sign he is indeed getting on now lol
RIP both Jimmy & Roger
Without doubt Jim was the top of the tree...........most prolific England scorer....light years ahead of Rooney etc etc.
You have to honour these players for creating these records and achievements because they stand the test of time and they bring so much joy to so many. He should have been knighted, absolutely. Massive mistake made there.
A great tribute from Alan Shearer. Spot on. Greavesie was probably the greatest player I’ve seen, and this from a fan who doesn’t support Spurs.
Greatest goal scorer, not greatest player I'm afraid🤔
@@dougreed2257 I did say probably 😉 Greatest goalscorer? Arthur Rowley of course.
❤
🧐: The headline of this BBC Sport CZcams segment, is, a, Fact!
May he rest peacefully throughout the Cosmos.
🙏🏾🕊
How come John Aldridge wasn’t included in that list?
A real legend
