Growing up in the '80s I can still smell the delights that used to issue from those giant rectangular metal tins: scoops of mash, and chocolate sponge and chocolate sauce. The green mint sauce was a favourite of ours!
I never ever thought I'd say this, but I miss school dinners!
Freaking loved my school dinners 😋🥛
Chocolate pudding! Me and Stephen Tebby had 4ths, 1972. 4ths!
Oh my god, this really zapped me back in time!!the spinge pudding in those big silver metal trays aswell! Thank you so much for this I loved it
Me too!
@RetroReminiscing at my primary school we had the best sponge cake that came in those big trays and green pepermint custard which was delicious
Ah - the memories of school dinners come flooding back........
I'm 50 and remember that school meals at all my schools were really good. In fact, I miss some of the things we used to have because you can't get them the same in the shops!
Used to love my school dinners in Junior school.....and that distinctive smell..! Going up for 'seconds' when available...i was a 70's kid...weren't as many obese kids back then either as we were always outside playin, running around!! When i got to high school (1979)...half way through they changed the food to more like cafeteria food...not as healthy and home made etc....changed to frozen oven chips, burgers etc!!
I used to love my school dinners back then too hazel. They were nice. When they changed to those cafeteria style chips and donuts muck was when Thatcher farmed out school dinners to the lowest bidders.
The good old days of sugar and stodge lol
Energy
Used to love my free school dinners 😋🥛 yummy
I can smell this video
You read my mind!
😆🤣
Crosby Road North Infant&Junior school, Crosby, Liverpool 1974-81. The absolute BEST lumpy pink custard in the Northwest! >.
Goose Green Primary School Dulwich London 1977 to 1984 beautiful time of my life.
Beautiful, thank you!
Our school dinners were really good.
Once Upon a Time..........🌟..............
0:29 That cake looks so good, well if it even is a cake, wouldn't mind that.
I loved the dinner ladies. You couldn't get seconds unless you'd cleared your firsts. I thought the food was pretty good at my school. It was great being a child in England in the 1970s. In 1977 I was 8.
0:02 Chips *and* mash? Wow!
People had far less access to meat back then, and more mouths per family over which to spread it. Thats why people are so much taller now. Battery farmed chicken. Kids these days are so lucky to be able to reach their genetic height potential. Nobody would feed those meals to their kids now because they intuitively know that it wouldnt be satisfying enough or nutritionally balanced. But people couldnt afford our luxurious and environmentally costly high-protein diets back then.
that wasn't as true in the 70s but many decades earlier for sure, I'm 6'1 and have been a veggie since childhood, it's better nutrition in general not necessarily meat, too much meat and even too much protein isn't good either, the modern diet has too much
@@NickSBailey yes, a happy medium is best I think
What a great system 👍, wish we had had this in NZ & Australia. NZ had school milk up until 31st March 1967(Tory's abolished it), I just missed on this, as started school in October 1967.
ohhh memories
Yum yum, I can remember this like yesterday. Loved my school dinner and me pudding. Ended being fat, too much pudding lol. Love the chips.
Now a days kids are given health food at school thanks to Jamie Oliver.
If I had to choose the healthier meals in todays schools or yesterdays meals in yesterdays schools, oh well no contest I'd choose yesterdays. Yum yum.
my school dinners ladies where the best that was proper lunch
I hated them..dinner ladies at our school were sadistic too. Watching it makes me realise it wasn’t all a bad dream. Pudding looks tasty though
Wheres the sound?
Proper food to be had by all. 😄
Yes at least they were given a proper meal!
do you mean lunches??????????????????
I remember hiding half of it then getting my sideburns yanked from hitters wife
