The good news is that we get to go with you on another attempt at this. Looking forward to your fall attempt. Great job! Baby stroller running is a training secret no-one ever tells you about!
Massive respect, Nick. Your narration was very moving knowing how you ended. You never pulled back, you gave it all you had. That is the marathon. We are staying for your journey.
I am 63 y , from Brazil , I can understand your feelings because I had Theo same dilema , but , in Boston decided to run without pressure and then I ran 2:16 , and repeated three times in a row , decided to break the 2:15 but I only broke myself . You até going tô make It Just relax and remember , the Sun always shine . Congratulations .
It takes a lot of courage to be so public with your attempts. Beautiful moment seeing you emotional and thanks for sharing that. One day you will break 220 and it will initially feel amazing but that feeling will fade and then you will be left with pride you have for continuing to believe and turning a “failure” into a growth experience. Congrats and thanks for the inspiration!
I loved your narration on this video Nick. Very personal and your camera guy got some great video of you throughout the race. I could totally see you going through the range of emotions on your race. You looked light and easy going in the first half and you could see the fatigue set in later in the race. I've been there MANY times as well. You'll get there on the sub 2:20. The marathon is just a tricky race. It's been a while since I've done one but I enjoy watching your training and see how you approach the sport.
Hi Nick Wayne here your old running friend form South Africa i have looked at the hole video and i am proud of you and you looked very good well done Nick you are a champ
Nick do not be eager over the one you looses but be happy for those which you shine trhough and are running superb. You do it wonderfull Nick. Your belief in your time is astonishing. Inga
Hi Nick, You truly are inspiring, and thank you for giving kudos to one of my Strava Half Marathon activities, otherwise I wouldn't have find out about you. I ran Cape Peninsula Half on Sunday, my target was sub 1h30, by the official time, I missed it by 3 seconds. The above video is inspiration that I should not give up, I will get to that sub 90 half one day.
Nick, with such a postive mindset and with all the work you put in, this sub 2:20 will be yours. Most of all, you inspire me and many others to go out there and run and chase whatever dream we all have! Looking forward to your Berlin training block and adventures! All the best from the Netherlands
Marathon race day even gets me emotional watching it. Well done on another huge effort. You know I think you would have got it with a more cautious first half but as you say you felt great and had to see what that meant. Life rewards the bold and one day taking that risk when you feel great will pay off. Another huge block banked. Thanks for sharing it.
Sometimes you have too risk it for the biscuit! Super risky in marathon running but when it pays off it'll be worth it! Marathons are so so tough, but they just have a way of bringing us back for more! It's a pleasure mate and let's keep working HARD and keep moving forward! See you around soon!
You feel like a MILLION BUCKS.... Until you don't! You go through about 50,000 emotions in a marathon. You have to be mentally tough and stay on top of those demons. It's always worth it in the end!
The hardest thing is to push hard when you realise the target can't be met and you did that. Your early splits show you clearly have the basic speed to do sub 2:20. Seville is great feedback on your training block. Maybe the next block will have more emphasis on stamina runs and running form weighted resistance exercises, rather than speed. You can get 2:20, no doubt about it
Wow this one hit almost as hard as my own runs! Amazing run and it looked like you had it in the bag, but that’s why marathons are so fascinating ! There can always happen a million things !
before I watched this vid I wondered to myself 'did he go out too fast because he wanted to make sure he was in a group?' I've just got to the part where you are isolated and put in a big effort catching up to the group. Whilst being in a group is nice, if they are going too fast it really isn't worth it. We've seen this with other vloggers best example being Seth DeMoor in Amsterdam when he went out in 67 then blew up badly in the second half. You've done countless efforts and many races solo, including PB's. Trust your pace, trust your fitness. I'm only able to comment on this because you, and Seth have shared these journeys, so thank you for this, and you definitely have sub 2:20 in your locker.
Loved watching your training block, Nick. Love the channel. Loved the race edit - thought you had it there, man. Onto the next one. Will keep watching.
Brilliant video Nick! It's rare to see such a detailed and well filmed video of someone running a marathon - you did so well organising for Jake to film it (and obviously well done to Jake too)! It's easy to talk about things at length when it all goes to plan, so kudos on making this video, despite it not going the way you wanted. You'll smash it on the next one I'm sure.
Thanks Nick I’ve really enjoyed the journey and your relentless enthusiasm. Your pace to 30k shows you can do it, and your guts to hang in when the wheels were coming off shows that it’s when not if!
Wow, such a motivation! Your video changed my mind for my 2nd full marathon in 6 days in Texas. I will watch this video again the race day morning while eating breakfast. Thx for the wonderful video.
Such a positive mind set and the first name I searched in the results! Inspirational regardless of time, here's to the next attempt. Thanks for sharing the journey
I love your passion boet. I can't wait for you to nail it 1 day. That's going to be freaking awesome. The Israeli is on my running team here. Very cool. As you say the marathon is just tough. Hope to see you in June. Comrades back to back for me. Did a 7:48. Won't go for a silver but want to PB 😜. Keep up the great work. You are a legend and a machine. FYI I saw you on TV with the womans leader for some time
Nick, we're with you through it all. The highs or lows - we are with you. You're an absolute legend and inspiration to us all. Keep going as your journey encourages us to do our best each day and each race. 💪😎
This is a phenomenal watch. I’m emotional watching this, I know how much you want this and all of those around you, friends, followers, companies know you can do it. From a runners perspective, I’ve taken things from this that I’ll apply to my next race, particularly that pack running mentality, every pb I’ve done I’ve had my eyes glued to the back of someone’s head, without thinking about it, I was pack running. 2:20 will come, for now, enjoy the next chapter with your soon to be new born you’re an inspiration to so many. M
Just came across your page. Welldone man. I applaud the mindset to have a goal & still focus on enjoying the process with such openness & positivity. I hope you achieve your goal and even better. Keep inspiring us
Hey Nick. Great vid bud. Your race very much mimicked mine on Sunday albeit I was only running the Peninsula Half (with a much more modest goal). Don’t be hard on yourself, despite one or two harsh comments. Each marathon is teaching you something new as you hone your craft. I think you’re learning where your sweet spot is. You will run sub 2:20 soon. In the meantime we all get to enjoy your journey. Rest up and good luck with the new arrival.
Incredible brother, you got this man. Your perseverance is something to be admired. It will make sub 2:20 even more meaningful when it finally happens. And it WILL happen.
Always love your videos, your passion always shines through. When you break 2.20, you’ll obliterate it and the feeling will be so much sweeter for the journey. Keep inspiring. 💪
I loved your journey. I felt the pre-race nerves vicariously in Canada! The result wasn't what you wanted but what an effort, you backed yourself all the way and I hope to be able to give it that same full send in my first marathon this year. Best of luck with your growing family and at Berlin!
Nick, you have such a great character man. You help us being joy to this amazing sport. Yes there's suffering but it's mostly about finding one's self in the process. I can't wait to join you in your next journey.
Havent watched the video just yet but want to say even though you didnt get the result you so desired, you’ve inspired so many to set bold goals and to commit and chase them with everything we’ve got. Cant wait for the future videos to come and cant wait for the future sub 2:20 build 😍
Well done on giving it everything, through training and through the race. Your journey has been inspiring, even to me and I've been running for 42 years! I am training for my first 50k and watching you put in the dedication to your training has really helped me get out the door and be consistent. Good luck with your next one, hope you keep enjoying the process.
Amazing attempt Nick , am sure on your next one you will kick ass ! It’s been brilliant watching your journey also picking up some fantastic tips along the way.
Woke up to watch the last bit of your race and see the way you crossed the finish line made me emotional- you will get this keep going and enjoy the time with the new little one on the way
You were so smooth and controlled. The marathon is a "Beast" and we all know that feeling when the pace goes and there isn't anything you can do. As mentioned below your next block is the next one we get to share.
Great video and commentary! I can relate to your thoughts and the suffering in the last third of the race, even though I'm at a much lower level. Next time it will work out! This video series motivates me to aim for a marathon again in autumn, even though I didn't really want to run a marathon anymore.
Great video and series, Nick. Was 20 seconds short of my sub 3 quest for the 2nd time in 4 months. As you say, that's marathon running, we'll be back. 💪
what a summary! appreciate the work and thought you gave it. Very helpful! Especially recalling what you thought more or less in the moment at certain points in time. So honest and interesting!
Nick you were still awesome. We know it is heartbreaking that it is not quite what you wanted but you will get it in a little bit cooler weather. At the outset before you left thought it might be a factor. I believe it was absolutely a factor. Remember you also had many months of marathons in your legs and lots of travel prior to your new short build. You will reach your goal in a cooler weather race. Love your program. Such an inspiration in your determination. Thank you so much for sharing your dream.
Ah such a shame, you will get that time, no doubt. I loved how you tell us how you’re feeling all the way through your journey. I had everything crossed for you whilst watching this. Looking forward to seeing your next journey.
Amazing strength and character here Nick, I've been following you for a while and I know you'll smash 2:20 soon. The fact you remain positive at the end of a result which you didn't want shows your strength and willingess to succeed. Keep moving fowards buddy!
Hey Nick.. I thought your decision making was spot on.. no regrets and you backed yourself. A very brave attempt and you were on 2.17 for the majority of your run which was the time I predicted. However when you do get everything clicking into place I reckon you will do a 2.16 - 2.17 Such small margins but your mental strength is a big factor to keep going. Keep your chin up and come back for more. I back you 👍
Way to go for it Nick! It didn't work out this time but I'm convinced you've got the mental and physical strength to get it done eventually. Keep grinding!
Just found your channel, great inspiration, personality, heart, passion, you've got the lot mate and that sub 2h.20 is just a matter of time.i have my first marathon at Brighton in 6 weeks and hoping for 3h 45mins.will be super happy if I get that.
I could do with your motivational commentary when I try to break two hours at the London Landmarks half marathon in April - great performance; well done!
Congrats , great time. You blew up and went out to fast , did not conserve energy enough in the first half, but you ll learn and for sure it will come a next time thank you. Enjoyed watching
Enjoy your content Nick and inspired by your training!! I signed up for my first marathon for next year Feb 2024 and put a big goal to try and run a sub 3 hour. I know it’s a big goal, but definitely learning from watching content like your channel. Sorry that you didn’t get that sub 2:20 but it’s just a matter of time that you break that sub 2:20 goal. 🤙🏾
Dude you’re a total inspiration. Thanks for sharing with the true emotions included, shows how important it is to you. You’ve got this mate. Next time 2:16:40 !!! No doubt 😁
Literally sounds like every marathon I've ever run. It's so deceiving in the early stages when you're feeling great, then in those last 10ish K it suddenly hits you and, as much as you try to will the body on it just can't go, so you have to use your mind to dig into the depths of your limits and force yourself to keep moving forward, all the while seeing your goal slip away. It's so miserable that it makes you wonder while we keep going back for more but we do. Mind you I never learn, even after 17 marathons 🙄
Your determination is infecting, inspiring and motivating a lot of people. Including me, I'm going for sub 3 in Berlin. I'll see you there celebrating sub 2:20 no doubt about it!
It has been inspirational watching your training block. But even more so, watching you hold your head high at the end of this video. Top lad. I live in Berlin, so assuming you’re going for it there in Sept I’ll be there to shout you on.
What a great video. Way to take it in stride, especially with less than perfect weather. So much goes into a pb, including luck with the weather. No doubt 2:20 is going down this year.
Great Job Nick, really happy to hear you're remaining positive. By the way, the guy in the black Nike kit you were running with at the start of the marathon is Daniel Cortes a Chilean runner who has also been searching for that elusive sub 2:20.
@@justalilbester You will 👍 I see you have it in you 💪 In this race you were just unlucky! you ended up a bit wrong from the start and had to chase a group. you looked very relaxed in your run .. if you had ended up in a group of 8-10 runners from the start with a steady 3.16 pace, you would have been in a completely different position at 28km .. and added a gear at 34km .. you could see that you ended up in a mental struggle after 25km not having a group to run in.. but you still did damn well! you are an extremely strong runner! after a race like this comes the feelings when you know deep down that it didn't go as planned and a certain disappointment .. but be strong and be patient 👍 return slowly to training and start planning a new race! you will fix this 🙏💪👍❤️
I found this video and your attitude inspiring. I did a marathon 4 years ago in 3:03 and want to do one under 3 this summer. 3:21/km for 42k is pretty crazy man.
The good news is that we get to go with you on another attempt at this. Looking forward to your fall attempt. Great job! Baby stroller running is a training secret no-one ever tells you about!

Fair play mate. Ultimate respect. 👏 👏 Great effort, great attitude.
Well done Nick, superb effort. The time will come, probably when you expect it least! Hang in there and keep going. You're a hero
Awesome job hanging tough even though you felt bad in the end! So inspirational!
Well donee Nick. Absolutely feel your passion. Keep going.
Love your passion Nick.
Thank you so much for talking us through the race. That was emotional :).
You did well, well done bro! Keep being positive and you will get there eventually!
Loved watching this video. Truly inspirational. Hope you break 2.20 in Berlin!🤞🏻 Look forward to another running series.
Great run Nick. Im so heart broken like it was my target. So close. Next time.
Your determination is infecting, inspiring and motivating a lot of people. Including me, I'm going for sub 3 in Berlin. I'll see you there celebrating sub 2:20 no doubt about it!
BOOM!! Let's do it!! See you there!!
Great footage and commentary Nick! 2:21 is incredible, I can't wait for you to 'get it' at Berlin! 💯
Inspiring man. Great vlog. We all know what this means to you and can’t wait to see the day you break 2:20. We’re here for the ride. Alan
Remarkable running and great video!
Inspirational effort, bravo 🎉
Be proud mate, you've done what a lot of us can't do. Very motivational.
Thank you!! 🫶🏻🙌🏻
It has been inspirational watching your training block. But even more so, watching you hold your head high at the end of this video. Top lad. I live in Berlin, so assuming you’re going for it there in Sept I’ll be there to shout you on.
Magical! See you there! Let's gooooooo!
What a great video. Way to take it in stride, especially with less than perfect weather. So much goes into a pb, including luck with the weather. No doubt 2:20 is going down this year.
Don’t comment too much on social media platforms. First video I’ve seen on yours. But love the honesty of this video! And still an insane time!!!
Thanks for commenting on this one :) appreciate it! Let's gooooo!
after the race is before the race ... BELIEVE and thanks for your content
Wish you all the best mate. I am inspired.
Amazing result, amazinf video. You will get there. No doubt!
Great Job Nick, really happy to hear you're remaining positive. By the way, the guy in the black Nike kit you were running with at the start of the marathon is Daniel Cortes a Chilean runner who has also been searching for that elusive sub 2:20.
Ah great to hear! I really hope we both crack it soon! It was great running with him!
Great job. It will be sweet with a new PR soon!!
Great work👍 never give up💪 .. its took me 5 attempt to get sub 2.20.. after that I run 12 times under 2.20!
All the best for u next race🙏
Amazing to hear right there! Hopefully I can follow in your footsteps!
@@justalilbester You will 👍 I see you have it in you 💪 In this race you were just unlucky! you ended up a bit wrong from the start and had to chase a group. you looked very relaxed in your run .. if you had ended up in a group of 8-10 runners from the start with a steady 3.16 pace, you would have been in a completely different position at 28km .. and added a gear at 34km .. you could see that you ended up in a mental struggle after 25km not having a group to run in.. but you still did damn well! you are an extremely strong runner! after a race like this comes the feelings when you know deep down that it didn't go as planned and a certain disappointment .. but be strong and be patient 👍 return slowly to training and start planning a new race! you will fix this 🙏💪👍❤️
What an amazing and natural video!!
You'll break it at Berlin champ! Promise ✌️.. See you there!!
I found this video and your attitude inspiring. I did a marathon 4 years ago in 3:03 and want to do one under 3 this summer. 3:21/km for 42k is pretty crazy man.
Sub 3 will be so sweet! You can do it, I'm backing you!!
Congratulations!!!!
