- Enjoy this car ride around Manhattan looking for an all-night gas startion in September 1988, in a 1972 Chevrolet Caprice convertible driven by Nelson's pal Eddie Braddock (aka Red Ed). The delightful backseat passengers are Albert Crudo and the Pop Tarts (Randy Barbato & Fenton Bailey).
- Zábava
Eddie literally invented the idea for Uber. Amazing.
So many ppl didn't understand or HATED Nelson's camera but now look at this beautiful time capsule we have!
Hi Rara, it's me Rara!
Nelson was 40 years old in 1988.Looked like a child and had the personality of a precocious prodigy.
A cellular phone in a cab so you can call it up anytime you want a ride???😳🤯 Groundbreaking
God I miss those days when you just spent hours riding around with your friends. Not going anywhere, just driving and partying in the car.
Especially in a convertible with the wind blowing through your hair
And you felt anonymous to do whatever you want and your mom and dad would never know you drived all the way to Tijuana , or going anywhere at anytime.
Today even your car is spying on you and your dad would quickly find out that you used his car to go out of state.
Plus in those day you could lullaby everywhere, no one would track you, neighborhood watch harassing you just because you happen to drive in their neighbourhood.
Yes ! And it used to be a family event, when I was a kid my dad would say, " You all want to go on a ride" ? And that meant, just driving around, maybe in the country or in the city and maybe get a coke and or hamburger somewhere. It definitely was a treat back then, now its just an everyday thing
ragtops are the best ! the moon overhead at nite, oomg the best
Love VW bugs...yeah, now we have to look out for our lives
No more bugs on the windshield
This video aged like a fine wine...
Omg Eddie was way ahead of his time. He predicted the Uber.
Eddie was a super smart dude- I have no doubt he went on to be super successful. Would love to know what happened to him.
There's approximately 3 gas stations in all of Manhattan at this point... all of these ones they stopped at don't exist now.
I wish I had friends where we could just pick one another up, have no destination or plans per se and just have fun. Drive around, grab a bite to eat, just enjoying life. I miss having friends.
So while Nelson pioneered vlogging, Eddie invents Uber in this one
And they talk about vaping too
Lol
d k 👍✨💯
@3:41 he provided the business plan.
Yes
They perfectly described Uber 25 years b4 it existed
no you moron it's called friendship, he's not driving around for a business, they're hanging out..
JHOT247 Dumbass, they were literally talking about charging $5 for a ride before talking about the cell phone. You seriously are a moron.
i didn't watch the video from the start you got your period though lol you seem sensitive, you little bitch
Mind blown!!
lore no problem lol it was a simple observation
I can’t help to chuckle with the beginning where they’re raving about the car which by the end and a couple miles has become devoid of all its necessary fluids. 😂
And Eddies doing mechanic work dressed as one of the Pink Ladies
AHHHH memories!
The carwash on Houston st.
The 80’s were the best!!!!
Eddie seemed like that one friend in your group who always has the most wisdom and best advice. And Albert seemed like the perfect partner in crime.
They were ahead of there times! Nelson invented vlogging and Eddie described Uber
Absolutely ahead of their time ❤
When cars used more oil and antifreeze than gas. And they used a lot of gas.
I love those big old cars. So much room!
Dimension7 yea until you had to push it half way home
Eric Christian hahaha yea i know, trust me ive been there a time or two.
Love the flavour of these road-trip ones. You always get a sense of the people, the atmosphere, the weather, the vibe in the group.
Eddie is nice. At the end I was thinking the scenario was a bit like Nelson and Eddie being the parents/grown-ups in the front trying to contain the rowdy teenagers in the back seat (who are paying no attention)! You get a sense of the age-gap in this one. Very evocative, and a fabulous car.
road trip? They’re driving around Manhattan 😂
9:00 Nelson invents ASMR in 1988
Eddie, the visionary
These where Nelson is calm and cool with his friends are some of the best. They're just lovely. And Randy and Fenton are so cute.
Wow I wonder how many years Randy and Fenton have been together?? Oh wait.. were they a couple??
It's funny how we barely ever wore seat belts back then it's like it wasn't even in the forefront of our mind.
Tony Tee. Here in NY back seats belts aren't even required when riding.
And rew it's that way in MI too
Tony Tee. I guess it's in more states then I thought.
Crazy
yeah, their was still freedom and discretion, we're under tyranny now, when you can't drive down the street without pigs harassing you, questioning you, ticketing you, we're fucked as a country
Every Eddie looks the same back then lol Did he ever become a cab driver with a cell phone in the car??? These videos make you realize time is now, live it.
I was ten years old and listening to heavy metal, I wore an Ozzy shirt in the 5th grade and thought I was the coolest.
To think this guy was ahead of his time by about 25 years... crazy
I was 13 days old lol. Love these Nelson.
I all ways wonders if People are still alive when I see old Films. I know Nelson passed in 89. I researched the 3 in the back and seems their all still living. Not sure about the Driver.
Oh gosh good old 1988..Where you could drive your car without wearing a seatbelt😁
Awesome convertible ❤
Nelson invented uber in 1986. What a great car.
Lol yes
no you moron it's called friendship, he's not driving around for a business, they're hanging out..
Were the Pop Tarts together ???
It is a great looking car
@@jhot2477 Chill fuck face! Gesh!
Recorded on my 20th birthday. Only recently found your channel and loving these time capsules of a time gone by.
This looks so fun
Notice the gas prices. looked like $1.25 a gallon for premium and that's in the city. I remember when gas started creeping up to $1.00 a gallon. Everyone was talking about that.
Beautiful automobile
This me makes me feel like I'm dreaming this, on psychedelics🤖
Thank god we had a Nelson Sullivan
Nelson has a beautiful face and perception,im so jealous Eddie bought his car for 300cad lol
In 1987 I paid $30 for a Plymouth Fury III....wish I still had that car!
Now it's really hard to get gas in Manhattan....
they got rid of most of the gas stations, the land is just too valuable.
Imagine if we can get footage like this from before the time where cameras were invented. Man, the human brain is interesting, isn't it? Just from a 12 minute video, me, a 21 year old who's never experienced the 80's or 90's, can do just that.
If cameras aren't invented there would be no footage!!!
I'm 46 8os was the best. People talked to each other back then
I think this might be the nicest I've seen Albert treat nelson
Time travel
This was a goodie 🙌🏻
Nelson’s friend was basically wanting to do an Uber business
Eddie is cool
The realest next to Nelson
Eddie was very cool. He and Nelson were legit.
What happened to Eddie?
Randy and Fenton are very wealthy indeed now. Thru Their World of Wonder production company they would go on to eventually create Rupauls Drag Race. I’m happy about that for them!!
I have a feeling they were Rick kids as well.
Nelson left behind a library of footage that was used to launch WOW- he was central to their success. You'd hope that if Nelson had some sort of Estate they'd be getting a share of it.
Magic carpet😂🤣😂 what a beautiful car! Cost$2 to start it but with it. Bet you could turn it with your pinkie!
Besides predicting Uber, they also talked about the E-cig or Juul @ 2:10
They were playing dangerous games back then at that gas station.
"TELL ERIC HE SHOULD GET CALL WAITING." 🤣
I love love his videos!!
I hope he let the car cool down a little before putting the water in the radiator. Putting water in a hot radiator is a great way to crack a head gasket.
Even though this was like 30 years ago
If it was guzzling that much oil and coolant, I'd say some gasket somewhere already went heh
pretty sure it was as bad as it was gonna get
Did we accidentally see the driver snorting something at 2:17?
Eddie reminds me of Mike Mills from REM
Eddie and the Cruisers! LOL
Isn’t that Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey in the back seat, co founders of World of Wonder? There is another Nelson video, where he and Randy take a tour of thrift shops somewhere!?
Yes that’s them
rupaul drag race? yup dear... now they got a 'break' (ahahah only as facade Lol)
Beautiful
Fenton looks so young and has hair. Randy too
That same car goes for about 15 to 20 thousand dollars now
I have an 83 caprice 4 door. You can have it for 1K.
@@TechGorilla1987 i have that car ,,,for sale for $500
@@teeniebeenie8774 IK guess I need to lower my asking price. I'm very close to driving it to a junk yard sadly.
Nelson and Albert makes me soooo H A P P Y!
Ed sure needed some chapstick..lol
This would be like driving a 2006 model car today
Nowadays there's like three gas stations in all of Manhattan
Don't forget Albert inventing YELP at 4:44
Eddie knew how to take of his auto
$1.27 for regular gas oh my God
❤️ that Nelson mentions “ Buddy’s in Atlanta” (gas station on North/Highland) @ 6:57
It's interesting that the guy in the back is wearing a Batman t-shirt but it's the 60s logo, not the infamous 1989 logo
$225-$300? (Five or Six hundred in today's money) No way you could get something so nice these days for so little.
Yeah no way man! My bud bought a car for 400 bucks and that shit kept breaking down and made the loudest noises, I just knew when he was arriving to my house because I'd hear his car coming all the way down the street and it'd attract so much attention lol but at least we got around for some time until it completely broke down and his mum had to come push his car with her own car while we were still in it so we can get it to the automobile shop!
I remember the 'cellular phones' cars had back then. We had one but none of us were allowed to use it because of long distance fees.
And vape pens
M. Mangiacapre I think he was talking about the first e cig. A guy invented it way back then but it didn't catch on. I guess tobacco was still king then and people weren't tired of dying yet lol
Yes, I remember trying them and they were awful. They made your throat burn.
Eric Christian the first e-cig was invented in 1963 but didn’t get popular until it was improved by a chinese man in 2003. He made them much easier to use and less discomfort when using
Randy and Fenton are now multimillionaire tv producers. Would you guess that would be their destiny from this?
i guess at the time they just were poor young adults... ah now they got 'break' their relationship (but they still act as they didnt ahahahah)
His friend thought of the idea of modern private taxis!
So fun
How "To Wong Foo" can you get????? Fenton Bailey slipped on this one, World of Wonder should have had the movie
Meant oily water. Lol
The 1 driving sounds like Alexis Michelle in some moments.
Red Ed cool nick name
Nelson at 6:50
Has Fenton said one word on this entire trip?
He's very shy... it would've been nice if he said something. It's just a bit odd and kinda puts the whole vibe down of the whole group, in my personal experience anyways but maybe Nelson & the others were cool with it 🗿
i mean randy talks too much so fenton talk too less(i guess still nowdays)
Omg oily beater in radiator?
why dont fenton make a docu bout nelson, he runs ru's empire for gods sake....
Well at least he's got air conditioning and power steering
225 dollars for a fuckin convertable. even now thats only 490 :(
God, they just invented UBER riding in this car.......They were truly genuise's
a month after basquiat died.
Gas was 1.25 back then and today i paid 1.49 a gallon.
That's cute. Gas where I live was aproximately the same back then but now it costs around 4 Dollar a LITER. 1 gallon is three liters.
Eily Bergin so im assuming you dont live in the US. If thats the case THATS not cute but unfortunate.
⛽💃🚗
9:45
Is eddie still alive?
yes and he's big on bitcoin now, look his name up on google im sure youll find his twitter
@colorsign on Twitter
@@crow33215 oooh he surely put moneys into Randy and Fenton's Drag Race ahahahah
Nelson kept his friends politically correct when out in public for those days
Toyota
My Hooptie
this video is the one made me thinking more about homophoby... they literally werent able to do gasoline or acting natural
That isn't a 1972 Chevy, that is a 1973.
No seatbelts
One gas station has no gas then the other has no oil?? Humm weird..Thats NewYork ? Ha I live in a country small town and we have gas stations open all night and they always have gas and oil!!...Love the car though..Id give him 500 for it now..
I liked the car ride but don’t understand why the two in the back were trying to flaunt their homosexuality just to get a rise out of people. Also why didn’t they get out and help fill the radiator while the driver was pumping gas? The two guys in the back are very self centered to me.
this is video has a pretty sad undertone, homophoby... they were SCARRY by homophobics! horrible
the ones were trying to live their homesexuality and the one who didnt was SCARRY... this video has really really a sad undertone, isnt happy to me!
Is that Bruce Jenner driving
You kiss your brother with that mouth?
That dude behind the wheel is a try hard.
Why do you say that? Eddie is a cool cat 💅🏼🗿
driving with one hand at the end ....an offence these days
