Alec Steele Blacksmith 2019 - Zábava
SO happy to see a solid forging episode, quick project start to finish. They don't ALL have to be like this, but it was nice to have a break from the 347 part series.
Multi part series are why I kind of stopped watching for a while. Personally I'd like to see more collabs with craftsman of other crafts.
Maybe collab with samurai carpenter on a gazebo with Damascus steel vines and flowers for decoration
Twas a great episode
@@zetapsi568 the samurai carpenter is a douchebag
Agree. Maybe it's my mental capacity, but long series don't have the attention grabbing power.
@@zetapsi568 - I like the multipart series, but I do enjoy a complete project in a single episode as well. Hell, I just like watching Alec and Will make stuff!
YES. This is the kind of stuff I wanted to see when you brought on a full time partner. Working in tandem on a piece is amazing.
honestly they should have gotten them in on the scene for when the elf's were forging the sword in the lord of the rings.
The Conquering Enigma true dat
Can we just give the cameraman and editor some props? Doing great work!
~B~ i agree i mean the hits of the hammer are lined up with the beats from the music
Fedor van Meeuwen that would be the editor doing that .. I’m pretty sure will and Alec do their own filming but the editor Jamie at this time was cutting the shots w music
Kids these days....
Alec: "Now we epoxy the steel"
Will: "is that what you call it when you get it on your hand?"
Bahaha gold. Epic episode guys, back to basics and beautifully done. Keep it up!
I'd love to see you make a halligan tool for fire fighters! A life and property saving tool that fire fighters cherish. Out of Damascus of course!
Yes Please!
Auction it off for the families of fallen heroes, first responders and firemen.
@@adambaldwin258 or donate it to a local firehouse
This would be super omega cool
This would be epic.
Always amazing when the hammer lands to the beat of the music. Great job Editor!
リョ The audio editing is the only part of these videos that matters.
Nice content, nice music, nice editing, what else ? 😉
@@Duca4 Nespresso
リョ he probably speeds up/slows down the video to make it sync better
0:24 "We did a math or two"
Seems Alec's influence is strong
You know what’s better then the Hog Splitter itself? Their damn teamwork, in sync and on point. Beautiful
I don't know if this is appreciated nearly enough but whoever is your editor is pretty damn good
When do we get to see the whole team?
Finaly! This is what i've been waiting for. Alec and will forging 1 piece together.
Two guys, one forge?
... Alec
this is the stuff I love, them having fun heating steel, working together!!!
YEEEEEES!!!
@@Skedge i knew that
Yesterday, I had the joy of spending time with my girls. Lizzie is 7, Alice is 5. During our time together I took them on a mini tour of some of my favorite youtubers, at least, the ones that I felt were appropriate enough for them. I showed them this video because of it being a one parter and a good show of you two working together. They both had a blast. When I mentioned you guys make swords they were all over it. I look forward to making you a part of my time with them and thank you for sharing your work with us. Maki gwe can add a new female blacksmith or two in the future.
only 2 minutes in the video and I already have this feeling: "Ow yes!! Alec is BACK!"
This is the kind of forging we love and seeing you guys work together hammering away at the same glowing lump, that's just inspiring!!!
The double hammer traditional forging is amazing !!!!! Keep up the great work.
Must agree, It is much more fun to watch to me than the power hammer.
I agree
That was the coolest part of the video .... after the testing, of course.
Great to see another fun project from these guys.
Good to see vids coming back to regularity, too. I like the "quick" projects sprinkled into the major build. I think we're getting a better sense of what Will's style is and what he can do, too.
Love seeing this channel grow, keep up the great work, guys!!
Jerremy Vinson
Traditionally the master smith has the smaller hammer, and uses it to indicate where the apprentice should strike with the big hammer. When it’s time to stop, the master strikes the anvil instead of the workpiece.
This thumbnail just looks awesome! Love the small interruptions of smaller projects between the bigger ones like the cavalry saber. So it's not to monotone👍🏼 your work is just fantastic guys.
Btw can someone please tell me the name of the first song he is using? I know its licensed, doesn't matter for me.
7:07 hahaha that deserves so much more appreciation. I love Will’s sense of humour!
Also, this video is the best I’ve seen in a while. Good job fellas, it’s great to see you working together to achieve your goal. It’s almost like being back in the dirt floor workshop with sparks and two hammers flying at the same time .... loving your stuff guys.
It makes me very happy to see two people smithing together in sync on the same piece. It is great to see such teamwork and solid agreement.
Bruh, the intro with Will flipping you the tongs was badass!
0:32
Good eye Bro
Even them hammering together, they starting to work together well.
They just edited out the 12 tries it took to make it work. ;P Was super well done though.
ZNA production: getting red dykem so he isnt copying alec
Alec: IM USING RED DYKEM TODAY BOIS
I bet this will make him so happy
I had to scroll really far to find this comment lmao
ZNA productions is a good guy. I hope he used red as a kind of “tip of the hat” to him
they both made hog splitters too
@@GMNGBKBLN ah ah ahh, Eli made it before Alec
Will was the best addition to the channel. The fact you two found each other is an act of god. Perfect duo.
Dead serious guys this is one of my favorite videos. Hog splitters and watching you guys forge a complex wide long ranged blade is so fun to watch
THIS! This is why I'm here, why I subscribed, back in the days in the old, old original workshop.
Don't get me wrong, all this new, high quality fine art stuff is equally amazing. But man-cave FUNdamentals are AWESOME!
Thanks for the 'love' Alec! :)
You put my words into words before I could put my words into words
Whoever films/edits Alec’s videos, this was a pretty good episode👍🏼
I like your profile pic. It's similar to mine.
@@tolkienfan4815 spread the love!
Great balance of content, editing, and music.
Tulkas The Valar
Thanks man sunsets ftw
@@shorttimer874 the way the music syncs up with the hammer blows is amazing. The editing is speeding up the video so it matches up with the beat. Which must be a huge pain in the arse to edit.
The knife 100 bucks worth of steel. The handle 10 bucks in wood. The smile on your faces when slicing through stuff is priceless.
I have a cool tip! At 1:47 when you and Will are hammering, try listening to the music you will put in the video while you are hammering so you can get the timing just right to make it that much more satisfying!
Cool! I made one of these out of a lawn mower blade last summer. Great for swatting flies around the house.
Edit:
5:09 .... NANI!?
Awesome 💪🏻!!
Pls collaborate with Alec
yes please do it
then he bashes it lol
Was looking through the comments just for someone to mention this eli
Loving the side videos breaking up the main series you've been working on, awesome job will and alec!
Awesome to see someone make this. Was one of my favorite tools to use growing up in a family that processed their own hogs and cattle.
As a machinist I love watching this. Just a completely different way of working with metal.
having two people working the piece must be so much more satisfying... I'm happy you got Will and Will got you!
DoubleDee the love story made in heaven (no homo)
Do do. Do do. I got you babe. Do do. Do do. I got you babe...
Thanks for that... I hope it's now stuck in your head too. 😋
Yay!
*edit* It's nice to see some more traditional forging done. I'm quite happy. :)
I agree with that!!! don't take it the wrong way I like seeing alec go and learn something new (setting gems) but that's not why I started and it's not why i'm still watching.
@@benjaminmiller1142 - it's a tough balance, for sure. I have a feeling that he wanted to make something like this just for practice, as it's been a while since he has. So there has to be balance between learning the new, and practicing the existing skills. Now we're more on track with all of these 'interruption' videos. :) Seeming like a much better balance of forging/creating and learning new skills.
**edited because autoderp**
@@Broadpaw_Fox I think the main reason he got away from the forging aspect was because he was waiting for the oven and vacuum chamber. All the other stuff was preparation for finishing off the handle once he got those 2 pieces of equipment.
@@sheldonrunkey6160 - I'm not referring to only this project with the lack of forging. With the last few 'major' projects, he has had a lot of other work to do than just forging. But if you watched his older videos, there was a very clear emphasis on actual forging. Witness the 'Less yack yack, more whack whack' t-shirt he has. He was very much a forging monster, and now with his branching out into new techniques/areas, there hasn't been that much forging as of late. The Falchion is a great example- how much of that was forging the blade vs all the rest of the work?
I love that he's branching out and learning new things, but I have to say that this most recent few weeks is a great example of how to do that and also keep some good old forging in the mix. It might make the major projects take longer, but then maybe not if as you said there is time spent waiting for something. ;)
TL;DR - Basically, I love the last few weeks- a very good balance has been found it seems.
Alec: "Now we're gonna epoxy the steel"
Will: "Is that what you call it when you get it on your hands?"
That one took me a moment, then I guffawed.
And Alec snorted faintly 😂
Beautiful. Nice to see complete built from start to finish. Cool break from long series.Treat to watch you both working
...if hell had a cleaver. (I don't care if the cavalry sabre takes 150 episodes - I'm hooked; need to see you complete it.)
As much as I love seeing my boys battle it out against each other in a good old fashioned Forge-Off, it sure is refreshing seeing them work together so well to bring a project to life! Keep it up fellas!
Yeah back to basics of what I started watching this channel.
On a side note Alex's swing is much cleaner while Will's has the classic overhand twist you get from people that haven't used martial weapons a lot. You can see it perfectly in the bottle cuts. :)
I have an old one of these, probably from turn of last century, obviously hand made, they are one impressive tool. Only got to use it a couple times, not to often the Kitchen I worked in got the whole side of an animal in, but it was fun being the guy with the right tools.
Blue dykem is awesome, but for this piece, red was _so_ much more fitting! Love it!
PS: How about calling it blood dykem? 😈
Make a leather sheath for it, turn it into Alec’s edc
Murica
That would be hilarious to see him walking around with that strapped to him
Fight a buffalo with it and use the hide for the sheath
Hip or back sheath?
Thomas Russell back
Can we please just appreciate the music syncing at 2:45, that was satisfying.
Pin material 4:35... Brass is a yellow alloy of copper and zinc. Bronze is a metal alloy consisting primarily of copper, usually with tin as the main additive, but sometimes with other elements such as phosphorus, manganese, aluminum, or silicon. What you have there is brass.
It is so obvious that Will loves to sing. You should get him to sing more often
I really like the long term 20+ episode stuff broken up with single videos.
It was a beautiful thing to see you and Will both working the alternating hammering. Then absolutely terrifying at the end seeing what havoc it caused upon all the things.
So cool watching Alec and will hammer in perfect sync.Kinda feels like a metaphor for how synced they are as friends
Editing is so good in these, so satisfying when the hammer hits in time with the music.
I love the teamwork and overall atmosphere of the video. Great job!
You guys work in perfect harmony. It’s soo cool to watch!
I find it so fascinating to see a 7lb cylinder of steel drawn out and forged into shape. Learned a lot from the pre-forming. Great project.
Montana forest firefighters use a hand tool called a polaski, would probably be an interesting project, look up the shape and dimensions of a polaski.
That would be a good one to make.
Which variation though?
@@Dauske For sure, the super pulaski...
Pulaski
Ahh the traditional firemans axe
Every one notices how good the editing is but the amount of work going into it is overlooked.
No bc its credited. Not many videos are credited for editing.
The cool thing was the two of you alternating on the hammer blows. Felt old school teamwork
Feels great to let loose after months of struggle and hard work! Glad you got to have some fun!
Best video of yours in a long time! A full start to finish project as a team, lots of positive energy, and an amazing blade test at the end! So good!
HOLY CRAP your team up was so nice to watch... what a duo...
Awesome videos guys! Liking the shorter projects and especially the demolition / stress testing.
It was great seeing you working together like a team instead of always just taking turns on different parts. Was some really cool work to watch!
Those skillshare cinematography classes are working a charm I see. Some of the best work I’ve seen in your videos. Love to see your progression. 😊
Grinding off that forge scale has to be like opening a Christmas present.
Someone did an amazing job with the editing. Most hammer strikes are perfectly on beat.
It's unbeievable to hear how accourately you put the music to the sound of the hammer hit at 2:45 ! Exellent editing man! :D
I love how the hammer blows always (or almost always) line up with the beat of the background music! Props to the editor!
This is the Number 1 CZcams channel in my opinion! I Wait for the new video Everyday! GREAT JOB ALEC AND WILL!!!!
I second that.
Third that
4th that.
I don't know about #1 but Its definitely top 10 if not 5 for me:). And I sub to like 300 channels
Definitely #1
Love the synchronization with the music at around the first part of the video!!!
I’m glad to see a single episode on a project! It turned out amazing! Good work and I wish you two good fortune in the future!
Love the team work. Can you try do this more often?
nothing satisfies me more than the way the beating of the steel is synced with the percussion
👍😎👌 yeah!!!
Thank you for listening. I'm enjoying the vids where I can see the steps. You two working together is great.
Well that is one impressive piece of Steele and Stelter destruction in a beautiful package. Really cool watching you work together. Also your editor needs props... Great job editing this video. Thanks for sharing the awesomeness and have a beautiful day guys.
I love the videos where you just forge something cool to be cool not perfect.
Good to see you guys have some fun with a quick forging and finished piece. Holy crap did that just cut a bone clean through with no splinters...
Dude doesn't even bother making his video 10m long. What a champion.
yknow, when i clicked this video i thought yall were making a like a kitchen cleaver. NOT AN EXECUTIONER'S AXE
Technically, it is a giant cleaver for splitting hogs.
@@nigelis2345 I'm aware. The thumbnail was just very unclear with the proportions
@@demascus3vods Not really. The handle was clearly over a foot long. Kitchen cleavers have rather short handles.
Well now I know what "I" want for the zombie apocalypse...
@@nathanwithers340 it's unnecessarily large for zombie killing. Honestly imagine carrying that monster for 14 hours. No thanks.
Every time I see your videos I get so exited, I’ve been trying to make my own forge and welding shop, because you inspired me, also love the on beat hammering, I’ve been subscribed since about 30k!
Me too
Go take a lesson. Trust me I'd tried teaching myself. They'll just have to unteach you what you think you learned
I realy loved these old vidios you all working as a team it's so much better watching you both smile ear to ear while the comroderie shines through
I'm glad you kept the sheeps foot. That thing is dangerous enough without the heightened risk of throwing it during use!
This is the classic Alec project style I love! No offense but the forty party saber build was starting to wear me out
I actually don't mind the saber near as much as some of the other long series. They seem to be breaking it up pretty well with the small projects. Just enough that I actually start to wonder what's going on with the saber again.
I don't think length is the saber project's problem either. Most of it was good, too.
There were a few issues. A lack of progress while they tried to figure out bronze casting. A lack of showing the process in some episodes. Experimental jump cuts that I personally found detrimental at times.
All of it has been fixed.
+ The cinematics in this video are awesome (but not only in this one), and they generally learned to use jump cuts in a less disruptive manner.
+ They showed a lot more of the process in the recent videos.
+ They got the guard done, and it looks great. The project - and future ones - will probably run more smoothly now.
Alec and Will have improved a whole lot in the last weeks. It's a beautiful thing to observe that process.
Good Ole Amurican muscle and British elbow grease!
My brothers, the demonstration montage was impeccable. Keep em coming we love you.
Shout-out to the editor who synchronised the music with the hammer blows, it tickles my fancy whenever that happens
Pls, I'm begging you. Doing a collab with ZNA and building something like this would be epic
ZNA wants to sue Alec because of this video
No he doesn't need to do a collab with zna zna needs to get better at producing their own content
@@amyllari5274 r/woosh
This is, without a doubt, my favorite thing you have made. I appreciate the time and effort you guys put into the work you normally do, but this thing is made of fun and mayhem! Awesome!
Now that's what I call a "job" ! Doing something you love and obviously enjoy . A person would be proud to own that hunting knife !😋 A little tired of carrying it by the end of the day , but feeling safe . Great job guys ! "Deeds not words "
The music in time with the manual hammering, mmm that is satisfying!
The little bit of Red Dykem spilled on the floor in the thumbnail really adds to the aesthetic if this thing.
(Also the spill at 5:14, I agree, that is horrifying)
every time I see alec forge, I get mesmerized...
respects for the editor and alec :D
This was the content I was expecting when you guys set up shop. I love everything you put out and this was no exception. Great video
It’s so lovely to watch two talented nice young men having a great day making a fantastic hog splitter you guys must be having the time of your lives making these videos, keep them coming.
These 10 minute videos/builds are super fun. Keep em coming!
I personally prefer the 15 minute ones, think that's the perfect time length for an episode.
Hats off to the editor on this video. Just overall well done with the synching and whatnot. 👌
I think he edits them himself
I love that you have the balls to test it out on materials it’s meant for, not just bottles of water love that!!! The utter devastation
You two working together like this is so fun to watch.
Demolition sequence...*has man at arms flashback and crys in joy* "Finally a worthy opponent" * Dreams of cooperation between Alec and Will vs. Matt and Ilja* "Their battle will be legendary."
Matt and Ilya would destroy Alec and Will. Will is at least good enough to maybe hold a candle to Matt on the grinder, but probably not. Let's not even talk about how badly Ilya would embarrass both Will and Alec on the forge. It's not even a contest at this point.
If you ever move to another counrty there's always purple Dykem
I've used purple dykem here in America. And yellow and red and of course blue. I've seen green but never used it myself. Purple is my favorite.
This was..refreshing... and the teamwork with the hammers made it even better and how in sync y’all are just wow
That is a totally beautiful piece of material! That hog splitter is gorgeous
Well, it works! This was the best viewing I have ever seen. Just amazing work men. Love your 'mad skills'.
Alec: Now we're gonna epoxy the steel
Will: Is that what you call it when you get it on your hands?
Now everyone at the library is looking at me funny.. no regrets lol thanks for the laughs!
Probably the best Will joke so far.
Watching you guys work together is fascinating
The Hog Splitter was a very important part of the old-time butcher's toolkit. This tool was used to split a carcass into half-heads and quarters for easier processing. It was also sometimes used for limb removal from the carcass since it was sharp and strong enough to shear through bone and cartilage. Without a tool like this, a carcass would have likely taken 4 times as long to process due to the awkward nature of working with the whole.
I LOVE seeing the team forging/handhammering. Takes me back to some of your older videos, and instructional classes. Would love to see more of it. Maybe the next Stelter vs Steele could be a Steele and Stelter Vs someone else.
