Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on CZcams, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on CZcams. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on CZcams, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

Flame trees are an Australian native tree with bright red blazing flowers which cover them. Spectacular trees 😂❤
I think every Aussie over 30 knows the words to flame trees - even if they're not die hard Chisel fans. I basically have 2 playlists in the car, 1. Chisel 2. Barnsey. Bow River live Ringside 2003 is another awesome song from Chisel
So true, best time of my life in Melbourne 80's and 90's
I know you're a lyrics guy and Cold Chisel delivers., Listen to Khe Sanh by CC about a Vietnam veteran it will blow you away, They are a band that never got shared to the world as it was a time when your US career went through one record exec in the 70s 80s and they were basically rejected leading to the fantastic line in one of their songs " You got nothing I want, you got nothing I need"
Yep, Khe Sanh is a deep part of the Australian psyche and a bloody banger.
I saw Chisel in 1979 in Tassie. Don Walker wore a balaclava.... Barnes ended up singing W ild Thing while hanging from the rafters. A force of nature.
Jimmy Barnes is truly blessed with a fantastic singing voice. From his teenage years to his later years, he never disappoints.
This band are as important to Aussies as ACDC. They captured a vibe and feel that was very Australian, in the same way Journey's sound is very USA. Cold Chisel have around 15 or so hits that almost every aussie over 40 years old know well and no two songs are the same. If your looking for a 6 song journey that captures the scope of their different sounds -
KHE SAHN / STAR HOTEL / BOW RIVER / ONE LONG DAY / CHEAP WINE / RISING SUN. ;)
Love Goodbye Astrid. Pure bourbon-fuelled rock.
Cold Chisel have announced a tour - "The Big Five-0 Tour" which will take in place in Oct/Nov. I'm flying over from NZ to attend 2 shows in Melbourne followed by a show in Brisbane and then the final show of the tour in Adelaide.
The key change at 5:11 is just mindblowing.
Flame trees are red, the leaves are red. He does not want to burn the town down. The trees look like fire at their most healthy. The town stays the same after all these years. The line was, and nothing else can set fire to this town. Imagine the bush/forest, full of native evergreen trees, aussie is like that, but here and there, one tree, is bright red, they really stand out, from miles away. Most of the country has no snow, that can happen in the lower half, but not everywhere, there is no snowline on the North Queensland mountains, climbing up to see where you are does not work, climbing a fully leafed tree to see where you are also does not help. We do have some imported maple trees, flame trees are native.
Cold Chisel are brilliant. The other lead singer, Ian Moss, is just as good. I've been listening to them for nearly 40 years. They don't have a bad song. Check out "When the war is over" live from Ringside...it will blow your socks off. I've now subscribed.
Has anyone here recommended Cold Chisel - Bow River (live ringside version)? Barnsey is working on a new album too after his heart surgery.
Chisel is a rabbit hole filled with gold.
Well done… I don’t think i have ever heard anyone capture the meaning behind this song on first listen like that before…
But there is a second meaning too, the band had broken up already, but completed this album during/after the split…
So the “she” is also the band in general..
And for good measure, there is also the line ‘nothings gonna set fire to the town’ which goes back to a much older song ‘merry go round’ with the line “I’m gonna set fire to the town”
This song is simply amazing..
Great reaction Shawn!😊♥ I love how powerfully the lyrics describe (to me) the feeling of going back to one’s hometown and finding it still very familiar and mostly unchanged, but missing one particular person. About the trees, from wiki: “The reference to flame trees instead of the jacarandas for which Grafton is famous, due to its annual Jacaranda Festival, is partly because of… the BBC's The Flame Trees of Thika, starring Hayley Mills, ‘an old flame of the lyricist's dreams’. …However, Grafton is well known for its many specimens of the Australian native rainforest tree Brachychiton acerifolius, commonly known as the Illawarra Flame Tree, which along with the more pervasive, introduced poincianas and the town's famous (also introduced) jacarandas, set its streets ablaze every spring.”
Cold Chisel are little known outside of Oz because they told the american record Execs to 'stick it where the sun don't shine'. The song 'You got nothing I want' is about their disdain for the Music business and their experience in trying to get a deal done in the States.
This was their final and best single, they bookended their career with Khe Sahn and Flame trees, each one a classic piece of writing. Check it out.
Cold Chisel - truly the greatest Rock band you've never heard
This legendary Australian rock band though having massive supporter base and being beloved for 50 years in Oz are known little outside these shores. Their live shows are legendary, songwriting greatness from all 5 band members and a unique vocal pairing of Jimmy Barnes (singer) and Ian Moss (guitarist) make every song an amazing journey.
The discography is huge but here are a couple more songs to get you started.
Bow River - Live 2003 Ringside tour - a pure pub rock / blues based song that builds and soars and just keeps raising the bar.
czcams.com/video/TdVRNDnTKTU/video.html&ab_channel=BruceBarber
Wild Thing - Live 1983 The Last Stand tour - even though they were breaking up at the time, still at the top of their game. This cover of The Troggs classic is quite possibly the greatest live rock track ever recorded.

Khe Sanh - Their first single released in 1978 about the returning problems of a Vietnam War Veteran - controversial at the time, shortly after the end of the war, it has become a national anthem in Oz and still a powerful showcase of what they would produce for the decades that followed.

Shawn….. how long is a piece of string….. you’ve got 50 years of Chisel Gold ….. 9 Studio Albums + one album of songs that didn’t make their official albums……..try some of these …..Lost, Water into Wine, it will Always be You, All For You , Drive ….. enjoy.
I'm a fan of Jimmy Barnes, It's only a recent discovery, maybe four performances but has some soul in his voice. Nice one ese.
Cold Chisel formed in 1973 same year as AC/DC with a 17 yr old Jimmy Barnes as the front man
Wrong.... Dave Evans was the first AC/DC singer. Barnes was in Adelaide
Cold Chisel, Breakfast at Sweethearts
Can't go wrong with Chisel
Do ' breakfast at sweethearts '
The song is about the town of Grafton in northern NSW. Grafton is known for its Jacaranda trees, but they couldnt think of any thing that rhymed with Jacaranda. At the time there was a show running called the "Flame trees of Theca" so the inserted flame trees instead of jacaranda trees
It's always a good feeling to see someone who hasn't heard of Cold Chisel and discover GREAT AUSSIE PUB MUSIC... this song always takes me back home to my hometown in Western Australia ❤❤
My home town of Oberon was used for the music video
There's a video for Flame Trees on youtube.
Have a look at the tribute video flame trees on my channel (not a reaction request just check it out in your own time)- you will understand what this song means to our country afterwards!! ❤❤
Wow--great compilation of amazing performances!😊
@@intothesunset3 thanks yeh the first guy in the video singing is Cold Chisels drummer - he co wrote the song - he sadly passed away with a brain tumour. All of Cold Chisels band members wrote songs and could sing !
Megan Williams - backing vocals
Venetta Fields - backing vocals
You'll need to look at their version of wild thing live performance last stand version
It's when they where young you love the music as well
Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
Great song for the Road Songs list.
Definitely Bruce with this one, you got it. Just subscribed here from OZ.
A CZcams channel dedicated to ancient history. Still one of Jimmy's classics.
love cold chisel
Bro you pretty much nailed the explanation of the song
Nailed the story mate. Gets me every time.
Welcome to Aussie pub rock.
The best way to remember and visualize this is being at a beer garden in Surfers Paradise (1 hour south of Brisbane, Australia) near the beach, bikini-clad girls walking in/out and hanging around for drinks/meals. Later it became like the bar in "Star Trek" (replete with "aliens").
Great reaction to this fantastic Australian song
He got his girlfriend pregnnt at 16 or xo, her parents didn't let them be together. That son is in his life now. Look for David Cambell the lounge singer, with Jimmy at carol night. He did see his son sometimes as a kid, the folks didn't say who his dad was.
Flame treesare bright red aussie trees,,he's basically saying nothin' chabges. There is a line in a Midnight Oils song, "out here nothing changes, not in a hurry anyway."
Bro you gotta check out Cold Chisel “when the war is over” and “bow river “ live Ringside 2003
Thankyou for this reaction, I love Flame Trees by Cold Chisel, it’s one of my favourites 😊 If you ever get the chance, please do a reaction on Bow River live Ringside 2003 also by Cold Chisel, it’s epic.
You might also like, blow up the pokies-the Whitlams, I still call Australia home-the seekers, I am Australian-peter Allen, the voice-John farnam. Flame trees is based on a town called Grafton and I believe they're called "flame trees" because they look red in autumn (like they're on fire).
A darker interpretation is that she died in a car accident that he was involved in. Driving through the flame trees.
You wanna hear a unique version of this song, or you've ever dealt with addiction, check out the Australian film Little Fish.
Nailed it dude
Hi, liked and subscribed from singer Jimmy Barnes hometime, Adelaide, South Australia
The irony of this song is that it was written by their drummer.
Tobacco Road, fantastic movie
The best of Jimmy Barnes is from when he was with chisel
Sydney Morning Herald headline tomorrow: Australians banger graduates to Uncle Vibes .Gen Z recognises elders. xx
