we no longer have a mortgage, my husband is now retired and wants to travel back to Lebanon. We don’t splurge or anything like that. Inflation has hit hard and want to relocate while growing his 401k which is less than 700k at the moment. I'm cautious than ever with rising costs. Also because of the insecurities taking place I have really discouraged the idea.
Roughly how much you have in the 401k combined with a financial advisor’s help can help you not only grow but budget the money for your travel destinations. My spouse always delegates her excesses.
If I can chip in know what you are expecting from the 401k. An adviser might be able to help you visualize what role. The 401k plays in your overall plan. If your husband isn’t require to take minimum distributions yet, how long will it be until he reaches that required beginning age? These are what an adviser may want to determine in order to help you plan better and what investment strategy best suits you.

Bahaha! Thomas is such a tightly wound ball of anxiety, had to meet the most chaotic person. Staffan was a wholesome cherub whose first thought was to give flowers away, ends up having the cutest bromance sleepover. Then Ammar in true Yes Theory fashion actively connected with the culture and ended up with the most ragtag group at the end.

-We Lebanese are multilingual. Arabic is one of our languages and we cherish it. But we know English also, and many of us are fluent in French.
-We're a Mediterranean people, descendant of the Phoenicians. This is where we get our looks from as well. Notice the variety--some of us are tan, others are white with light hair and eyes.
-We're multireligious. Most Lebanese around the world are Christian. So, Lebanese have both Muslim and Christian values, depending on the family. Many of us are atheists or follow other religions as well.
-Our country is pretty much old as water. Byblos has been continuously inhabited for over 9,000 years. Our country has been home to many civilizations, including Phoenician and Byzantine. That's why you'll see Roman ruins on modern streets.

Man, I am really amazed by how many locals in Lebanon speak fluent English. In my country, China, I’d say probably 80% of the population can’t have conversation in English at all. Most of the young people know some English, but it’s more for writing exams instead of actually using it in daily interactions, which means many of them wouldn’t speak English nearly as fluently. Like Chinese, Arabic is a language completely different from English, and yet, so many Lebanese people speak English so comfortably, it’s just fascinating.
Like as they said briefly on screen, in Lebanon, the US dollar was used as an additional curency until the government banned it in 2019. I just checked and basically USA influence has been slowly influencing the rise of English since the 1940s. Apparently 30% of Lebanese people speak English, and I would bet that most of them are younger people and people who live and work in Beirut. Wikipedia says the government instituted the use of a trilingual education system in 1997, where education is to be done in Arabic, English, and French. So most of the people they talked to would be young enough to have been using English all throughout their lives in school. I think Thomas could have been using French as well, but English worked better for the video. Or maybe he didn't know about the French part, who knows. French would have been more likely to work on older people than English so it's entirely possible he WAS using it off camera.
The folks that yes theory interacts with tend to be younger folks that have traveled abroad, so english is commonly spoken. Also, 2 of the 3 people here didn't speak arabic so you're not going to see interactions with those hosts in anything but english.

Actually Lebanon has had a tri lingual education system for a looong time. Well before 1997. It may not have been instituted before then though. I’m first generation and my whole family (parents, aunts, uncles) speak English, French and Arabic. This is because schools in Lebanon are either French or English schools. All taught Arabic but you needed French or English as well
We Lebanese people have always been multilingual.
I've been traveling to Lebanon as a single female traveler! I had an amazing time, the locals are so welcoming and willing to help and explain the history! I was impressed by the knowledge of the locals, especially in Beirut- many of them were speaking at least 3 languages! I met a lot of foreigners visiting Lebanon which made me hope that things will get better! I would always return there, amazing country, welcoming people and a generosity I haven't found as much in other countries! Great video, thanks for sharing this experience with us!

@@Itsvivx99politicians sure but also crises times, the chemical explosion, covid, revolution.. every country in the arab spring had a bit of a big economic crisis after their revolution bec even being called unstable alone is a great hit to tourism and investors, after that chemical explosion and covid came to deal more damage, with more and more people being affected that in turn causes more protests and so its a cycle, and with ineffective politicians its almost impossible to escape

I am Italian, raised in Netherlands, now living in India. I lived in Lebanon in 2010 and 2011. Those 13-14 months were some of the happiest, carefree, most outgoing moments of my life.
I am so happy and pleased to see in this video that, despite the country being in a much worse condition than 12-13 years ago, the people haven't changed A BIT !!!
To people who have zero Middle-East experience, but have been to Italy, I usually say that Lebanon is pretty much like Italy (sun, sea, mountains, lots of warm and loud conversations & gestures, respect for family and so much more) with the difference that people speak Arabic (and French and English often !!!). Oh, and Lebanese told me an important lesson, that their version of pizza (man2ouseh) can be eaten in the morning ... which I thoroughly enjoyed after overcoming my initial shock ;-)

@@CRneu somebody is buying into Israeli propaganda. Shitty people exist everywhere. I think there's a misconception that Lebanon is some kind of Islamist country, but it isn't. Those people exist there, especially in the south, but it's not indicative of the culture and country ass a whole, let alone representative of the majority even. Beirut has always been a pretty western-like city for decades.

i’m super glad you got to experience solo traveling as a woman in these different countries, and i’m aware there is good people everywhere, but we do need to recognize that men will never face the same kind of fear/insecurity as us. women have to always be doubly cautious, and that’s not to victimize us, it’s just a fact sadly :(
and i know women’s opinions on these matters will always vary because we all come from different places. i’m a mexican woman and mexico is one of (if not the number one) country in latin america with the highest rate of feminicide, so that degree of violence against women is my daily life. i guess it’s just about perspective and lived experiences. i tend to not trust most strangers because that’s how i was raised to exist in order to protect myself. i just wish that wasn’t the case at all, and me and other women who grew up in the same kind of context didn’t have the need to look at the world with fear and we could just see the potential good on people (strangers). that’d be completely ideal!

Yes, I was totally thinking the same...on one hand, is less safe, on the other hand, a lot more people would just think you are hitting on them.
This is an interesting point of view that I did not consider. I think with a good smile and welcoming personality, anybody can live like this.
Fortunately that is not true! I have traveled, hitch hiked , couch surfed on my own and been with local people in various countries (even Turkey, Greece, Spain) multiple times. Exciting? Yes. But never anything nasty occurred. Did i meet with hospitality? Oh yes, tons! A female Turkish friend of mine has been doing the same for years, now for over a half year already, traveling all by herself on the African continent
I visited Lebanon, Egypt and Syria as a woman travelling alone. And i hitchhiked through Turkey were I met my now husband. The only time I felt unsafe was in Syria when 2 men approached me and wouldn't accept a NO, but didn't touched me or anything. And like 3 minutes later there were 5 guys who helped me. There are good people in every country. I often heard "don't travel to a muslim country as a woman alone"... but for me that wasn't true. Besides that one incident with the syrian guys I always felt safe. People invited me, little shops gifted me stuff. And I felt so watched after. In Egypt the most. People asked me all the time if everything is alright and how I like the country, they invited me to tea or bought me something from those little food stands on the side of the road. It was amazing. The only time during my travels were I got molested and was really feared was in Europe. I got pushed against a wall and was touched between my legs in Paris.

I was a Student in lebanon for four years. 4 of the best years of my life. people were so kind, so generous, se welcoming. I miss that country like my own homeland
I love seeing people experience Lebanon for the first time.
Outside of the politics and the image portrayed by the media, it is a MUST visit country.
And stay off the beaten path, ignore the touristy things and interact with the locals and see things from their eyes.
Everyone is very well educated and you will have no communication issues whatsoever. There's a reason everyone falls in love with this place.
I love how protective other countries can be over the women in their family. It’s awesome to learn about other cultures through these videos.

There's a huge community of Lebanese and Sirian descendents in Brazil and I'm privileged to have many friends in those communities.
It's exactly as shown. Their hospitality and love for life is contagious.
I'm praying for these brave and resilient peoples to overcome this difficult moment and reconstruct what was a little piece of paradise.

I've been following yall for 7 years and you gave me a reason to live. to see the experiences, the hospitability, the kindness and the power of connections has made me hopeful, even if I don't experience them myself. to know that there are kind people out there like in this video gives me strength to live on, and for myself to experience it too. to be honest, there is no yesfam community in Singapore where I live and I've tried to reach out and find my community but I couldn't. this video made me smile, and be hopeful that will soon. the energy is so contagious. I travelled solo to Beirut in the Fall of 2019, right when the protests against the government were ongoing. I stayed with the nicest airbnb hosts imaginable in the port district that later got blown up by the huge explosion. Luckily, they survived. I had a great week in Beirut - much better than I was expecting. I even walked straight through the protests and the army was so friendly as were the protesters. Unlike in the past, they were young and peaceful. Already their currency was crashing but not nearly as bad as what happened after I left. The nightlife was fantastic, the food was great as well as the people and the history was fascinating. Before the economy crashed the lifestyle was awesome. I left with a new appreciation for this great destination and know that Lebanon will rebuild and thrive again in the future thanks to its wonderful people. They survived a far worse civil war - they can survive this. We in the West need to help economically though.
We in the west are aligned with Isreal so they will never see our US aid. We wouldn't even speak against the bomb that the media reported was at a fireworks depot. Smh

As a half Lebabese person living in Canada who lived in a foster home and grew up disconnected from my biological family and heritage, this video has impacted me in the best way. I feel a sense of connection unlike any other I've ever had. To say that is so wild.. the impact feels life changing.

Arabic is just one of our languages. And we have a very different, unique dialect. We're also not genetically Arabs. Just Lebanese.

My father is from Beirut, but we've only spoken a handful of times throughout my life. I was born in Canada and I am now 28 years old. I never got the chance to know anything about my paternal family or anything about Lebanon other than through news and media, but this video gives me hope that I will one day get to visit my country and feel the sense of home I've been longing for my whole life. Thank you Yes Theory for another incredible video allowing people from across the globe to gain insight into cultures that are often misunderstood and misrepresented in the Western world.

When Thomas was going to party, I was kind of expecting it to just be those guys hanging out and having some drinks. I guess I should have picked up on the vibes after the wheelies on the scooter. My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw the club they went to 😂
It was awesome watching three different experiences unfold at the same time. All three guys had completely unique days and nights, but they all met friendly people and woke up with incredible views. Yet again, Yes Theory puts out a wonderful video from start to finish. From the talented editing, to the awesome merch plug from Reg, this video was an all around great one.

What an epic movie about an epic country. Great idea with the challenge. Been in Lebanon few times myself due to my profession. While and after my performances as you would say I emersed into to the Lebanese world and mett one of the nices people that I ever met. They showed me their food (the best in the world I agree) their culture, their struggles and how they try to overcome it and ofcourse also the world famous night life of Beirut. Great idea to put this country into the spotlight - they trully deserve it (like many other surrounding countries) Keep inspiring guys and good luck to Lebanese people ;)
