- The super-desirable GLC is the Mercedes take on the prestige mid-size SUV, and that means it competes with other super-desirable SUVs like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3. It’s been one of Merc’s best-selling cars over the last four years, and obviously the company wants to keep it that way. That’s why the car has just undergone an extensive mid-life facelift to give a new look, new engines, better efficiency figures and lots more besides. Auto Trader’s Road Test Editor, Ivan Aistrop, travels to Frankfurt in Germany to see if it’s any good.

Really love Ivans reviews. One of the better reviewers by far, great work! As far as the GLC goes, I'm a car guy but totally get the appeal of this SUV. Gorgeous inside and out with plenty of power and RWD characteristics. Not sure what more you can want honestly
Great First Drive Review
Amazing car with an unbeaten interior and looks
I like the vehicle but I’m not a fan of the plonk on the dash screen, I much prefer the integrated version of other models.
What colour was on that test car? It mostly looked black, but at 0:33 there was a bluish, purplish hue in the sunlight👍
Thank
Best in class😍
This review is of the 2020 GLC, not the 2019 model.
please, point the lack of a full size spare wheel. Cutting weight it's not a good excuse. Tirefit kits don't work well and a space saver is also not a reliable solution as the range is limited as well.
At least give me the choice to tick it as an option. Or leave room in the trunk for one and I'll buy one full size wheel myself
Which models have the flat bottom steering wheel and the control pad?
I want one. The Gl
I drove the glc 300 4matic with the amg package, the leather and most options. Love it. But the infotainment system sucks
I hope you mean the old Infotainment System and not the mbux
“All I see is bootcuts”😂
😂
Started having an issue on my 20 plate GLC where there’s random times the car just won’t start. Anyone else?
I want one!😁
Prefer more comments on bad things ... not just all the good which is more Sales based.
Does it still crab
I’m still not sure rather to get this one, or the Jaguar F-Pace SVR. 🤔
What a shame Mercedes haven’t given the GLC the new dual screen interior as in other models, even the A class!
I was definitely considering a GLC 43 but it is now discounted. Porsche Macan GTS, BMW X3M?
MrMrp69 Pickering bmw all day
Macan GTS.. BMW is very good but reliability is an issue
Looks like it does have dual screens... they just aren't positioned side by side next to each other.
Mik Ban that’s a stereotype. The truth is I have owned a 2004 535i and a 2005 s class and the only issue with the bmw was a cracked wing mirror. On the other hand, the Mercedes was back in the garage after every motorway journey
I then owned a 2014 s class which was impeccable but it still had its fair share of problems. I had a 2011 520d at the same time which was always perfect despite it having 2 previous owners.
I now own a 2016 q7 s line and 2017 gls which is terrible to drive. The q7 is much better in every regard, but seeing the new Audi facelifts on the a4 and a5, I will be switching to the 2020 x5 M50d when the lease on the q7 ends next October
Mik Ban additionally the majority of my family own German cars. The Audi’s always experience problems once they are 5 years old and the Audi dealer service is horrible unless you own a brand new car. The Mercedes have generally been good for the first few thousand miles and then they require extensive maintenance. Whereas bmw are made to be driven, and they like being driven and so they’ve never had any unwarranted problems whatsoever. Porsche itself is liable to many issues. My sister has a 2018 cayenne and it’s not as good as the 2019 x5 I test drove, nevertheless it’s very good especially compared to the previous cayenne which was very expensive to service
Do the door locks go down when locked so you can rest your arm when the windows down without a pin in your elbow?! Small pet peeve
Yes, door lock as soon as you hit 10kmh and pins go down
Why "super-desirable"? Personal opinion or based on sales numbers? Either way, I don't agree.
I think its more of a luxury compact suv, not midsize.. thats the gle,x5,Q7,rx category already
Noway. Its definitely a midsize! Gle is large! Get with the program.
Once one of those many millions transistors goes boom in this car you are stuck on the road and is facing $6k bill from Benz company.
Any idea of cost?
300d will be around 40k but if you buy at a year old will be 32k ish
So the GLC gets the new Mercedes infotainment system while the revised C class gets the old one
Good job Mercedes
Ryan Angkasa yes because the new c class is coming soon as the glc needs to keep selling strong for a couple more years before its replacement so they gave it the fresher infotainment to give it stronger staying power
I can't find the Cheeky Thumbs Up button.
2019 glc 350e has outdated screens and system. Thanks.
No it isn’t. That is the latest mbux system
what is this exact model called?
I think its the 300d premium plus ultimate
Idk.. facelift is always not to buy option.. wait for the new one everyone
Price?
Alexsandr Malkov 4:40
Mercedes needs to fix up
No crabs on my 2020.
Augmented reality is a gimmick. Why look at a CCTV image of the road on the touch screen when you can see a bigger, clearer picture through windscreen and get direction information on the screen behind the steering wheel?
“Hey Mercedes” voice control is limited. For example it will turn the radio on and change stations (sometimes) but not turn the radio off.
If you ask it to tell you a joke, it will come back with various schoolboy jokes. Try it!
I would prefer to be able to turn the radio off but at least it shows German software engineers have a sense of humour 😂 👍
What kind of mpg are you getting?
Why did they even bother to facelift this thing?
Rather have a high spec XC60
Did Mercedes fix the crabbing problem or still crabs all over the place?
they need to test RWD models to know
No they haven’t, I’m having the same problem and my Glc is 6months old and Mercedes won’t help thinking of taking them to fair trading!
@@veem9205 They may have fixed it for the face-lift though, nobody knows that yet
@@veem9205 Yours is the pre-FL model. Did they fix the steering knuckle?
@JELH unfortunately they haven’t, unless they did on some:(
Great review, but terrible facelift
Indi Dog lol
No
Just yet another dull Merc. Yawn.
Looks shitty af
bmw x3 looks much better imo
