Hey guys, this is probably the last AOE:DE gameplay video for a while. I'm planning to do a few non-gameplay videos on Definitive Edition within the next week, and then it'll be back to AoE2 stuff. I'm enjoying AOE:DE, but AoE2 is my one true love
Frankly spirit some Civ reviews are still pending on AOE2 and we would love to see it, can you please consider doing a civ review on Viet for instance?

In AoE1 DE it's just 'spam as many farms as you can as soon as you get decent wood eco, and then never pay attention to your feed eco again except to add more and more reseeds'. In 1, you actually had to micro food eco, there was alot more map food and hunting was encouraged.
Alex Browne Lame excuse. Outdated graphics was a fragment of that goofiness too, but they updated it anyway. It's strange to have a game with such attention to detail (look at those structures collapsing - gorgeous!) and yet not have a diagonal wall.
good point, but I like it. Or at least it doesn't bother me as long as it does the thing. Would prefer a gate or race specific special unit (even just aesthetically) if it had to be one tho

yeah played like 5 games with a friend each cut short due to crash, the games unstable on multi, ok for single player if you just want to do the campaign but not really a good game atm

EDIT: I see they've removed some upgrades, like needing axemen to then research the short sword upgrade. Also I found AoE1 is a lot easier to rush than AoE2 as you can't hide in your tc. You need a Government Centre to build a tc
I thought Axemen were a separate upgrade path from Short Swordsman like how Bowmen are separate from Improved Bowmen. I could be wrong. It's been a while.
Don't know if you'll ever read this, or if this was a feature they added in later, but you can set an option in the granary, I think, where it'll make the villagers auto build new farms once old ones are exhausted
Here I am happy that I have five or six cav archers on the tutorial maps hoping to swarm the Canaanites, and here you are with a whole cavalry mowing down enemies like you’re the Mongols. I learned quite a bit in this video, hoping to use it in my playthrough.
This is incredible! I remember finishing AoE and RoR on all 5 difficulties (campaign) and all I ever needed was 12 Villagers. So to see this sprawling economy sure is a sight to see!

Spirit of the Law, can you make a list of best non-gold/no-stone civs the same as you did with archer civs? Who needs it the least to progress? Who has the strongest military without them?
Spirit, gold is the key resource of winning AoE. Always try to get coinage asap. It will give you 25% extra gold from gold mines and save your life multiple times. Sadly it's a Iron age tech, but get it. It's totally worth it

The graphics, building collapse, water, i mean its almost unbelievably well done. Witcher 3 quality in RTS form LOL But its weird how they also completely neglected other parts, like not bother adding diagonal wall graphics.

I have been playing this since it was available to play but when i got it i could not speak english very Well or understand it but because of your video’s i want to get back to playing it, what faction do you think is a good starter one, i really like archers if that helps
I remember being a kid playing my dads unfinished saved games and building 30 towers and chopping down the whole maps forests and never actually attacking... Also yamato is the civ i played as for about 7 years now...
Oh, and the ideal start on normal resources is to build a Storage pit somewhere near trees AND animals, so that you can get a source of food and wood immediately.
I'm not sure if I can change it, but basically when I scroll by hitting the top of the screen the blue thing gives me the option to open the game in window mode, and if I hit the bottom to scroll it's trying to give me the option to click on my taskbar. I think it's trying to be helpful, but I kind of wish it would just go away :/
Jeesh that sounds more like a liability than being helpful in a competitive game lol. As far as its impact on the video its really not that annoying or anything, I just figured I'd ask since I noticed it on your last AOE:DE video as well. Looking forward to your new content! Hey Spiret Of The Law. Do you know if there is any difference between collecting food via berries, farms, animals and fishing boats? Like, do you get more or faster food using animals instead of berries or is it the same?
They will put it on Steam when everybody who can will get it off their store first. That's 30% cut they don't have to pay Valve for now. After that happens, they'll release it normally, to get the remaining cash that floats out there in the world :)

I don't know if you can reset your farms because in the old aoe if you control group all your farms and one farmer then when you stop your farmer it resets the food for all the farms
pretty complex game for being the first. mine was chicken cross the road on a IBM XT, green and black screen and all.. if not, it was some atari 2600 or maybe even colecovision game.
This probably needed more of a redesign than it actually got. Everything that AoK did right it did right because AoE did it wrong and it looks like they only fixed the horrible movement blocking farms and villager autoassign.
Tempires I can’t think of one player/pro that used to enjoy building their farms like a botched tile job. It was my most hated thing in the entire game... that and hard AI wololo micro :/
Good afternoon. Tell me this: when you select military units, only appear two basic commands (attack and stand ground) and not the advanced commands. Why is that?
I remember playing this in the late 90's and having an OCD for buildings that are perfectly aligned with 2 spaces between them for units to walk between... watching this guy just toss down farms willy-nilly makes me laugh at myself for the OCD... Love AoE!

The farms are as big as a building so you can put them in a perfect 8 farms big circle around it? THIS CAN’T BE AGE OF EMPIRES?!
Farms are as big as the town center and the mill, I think that is the best thing this game has to offer xD
Snowgoon Pretty sure it wasn't the case in the original game though. AoE1 DE is just a shit AoE2 now.
In the original they were that hitbox but they were solid so you needed a gap for workers, you couldn't tile them.
Which also greatly reduced output because you needed to leave space for them to walk to the mill or town center which often movement bugged them

For me the villager pathing seems the thing to change. How many of those vills were just stuck

Travis, they are but you needed to do Axemen or at least research short sword like with Improved Bowmen
I think you needed to research short sword, you didn't need Axemen
I checked and you did need the Battle Axe upgrade to unlock the Short Sword upgrade.

Theres an upgrade for ranged armor if im not mistaken, if you did that ur cav would be way more efecient against greens archers
