Excellent work. I’ve got an old flatbed that was on a dually pickup and I’ve been looking for ideas to cut it down and fit it to my 1976 F150 4x4. You gave me some great ideas for how to modify mine.
I started building this kind of bed for my 79 last year finally have all the materials to do it time to start welding thanks for the new video it will help big time !
YEAH THE AMMO CAN IS A GREAT IDEA FOR LOTS OF PROJECTS, MET A MOTORCYCLE GUY THAT HAD A KTM CYCLE AND DID NOT TO PAY 2000.00 OR MORE FOR CYCLE LUAGGE, SO HE BOUGHT 2 20MM AMMO CANS AND THE PROPER BRACKETS FOR HIS CYCLE AND HE NOW HAD SIDE BAGS, FOR THE TOP TRUNK HE USED A RADIO BOX, MILITARY VIETNAM ISSUE, IT LOOKED GREAT. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR VIDEOS ON CHEVY STUFF, JUST FINISHED WATCHING THE TWIN STICK VIDEO AND THE 205 CASE REBUILD FOR THE 10TH TIME, GREAT VIDEOS. YEAH I HAVE A 1974 CHEVY LONG BOX CHEYENNE DELUXE, WAS GOING TO PUT A SM465 IN IT BUT TOO MANY CHANGES FOR RIGHT NOW, GOING TO GET THE 350 AUTO REBUILT AND I WILL REBUILD THE T-CASE THANKS TO YOUR VIDEO AND GET MY NEW 355 CID ENGINE IN. AND GET THE TRUCK ROLLING. ONE QUESTION, CAN YOU STILL TWIN STICK THE 205 IF YOU ARE RUNNING A AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION? THANKS
willaim winchell awesome input! Thank you for watching and letting me know! Enjoy that awesome Chevy, yes you can twin stick behind the automatic. Great question, God bless!
Try and score some gym mat to custom cut to your truck bed. Can appreciate the huge amount of time you spent welding that franken bed together. Looks bad assfor sure.
Nice bed...very nice. and you saved a fortune by using old steel and making it look new again...a little sweat always gets it done! Do you live near Olympia, WA? I live near there and would be cool to come say hi and see your projects....
You may have tapered down the back for looks but it's actually a good practice if you're building a truck that will see any trail driving. If you're making tight turns or tight fits on the trail the first part of the that will drag on a tree or rock is the corner and it doesn't have to be there otherwise for the vehicle to function, so why not chop it.
Would you be able to build Baja/prerunner bumpers and stuff to sale? I also like how we live so close to just a county over. Hope to see this truck on the road soon. Keep on building can’t wait to see the the whole truck complete!!!
I would love to build this stuff for a living and sell custom built bumpers but that’s just not feasible right now. I’m glad you like my stuff! Thank you for watching and commenting, God bless!
Might as well carry on and build some matching front fenders and bumper (Its easy for me to say that since i'm watching). bahaha Can tell the kiddo looks up to his daddy for sure, well done sir. Them atv gun holders look like they would make a nice thing to mount a shovel on (the guns gotta stay in the cab). lol
Good questions! I left the bed on and bolted tightly to the frame for the entire process until it was time to paint and do some finishing touches underneath. I trimmed the bed down with an angle grinder and cutoff wheel, but I would imagine that a sawzall would do fine as well. Thank you for watching and the questions! God Bless!
Good question. The bed sides are at a 90 degree angle to the bed floor. I do not recall at the moment exactly how tall I built the sides but 17" from floor to top rail rings a bell. My sides are not as tall as stock bed sides if that helps. When I built this and as I do with many custom builds I will sketch it out to give myself an idea and then I physically mock the project up as I go. Doing it this way works well for me but sometimes I do not document every detail and final measurement. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Have a blast with your build! God Bless!
I used a harbor freight pipe bender. They work ok for light bends on thick walled pipe and tube. Great question, thank you for watching and commenting! God bless!
I'm trying to do something like this on my 84 ford. The outer skin is rotted and basically wrecked. any pointers on doing this cheap? It's just a 2wd and I have a keg going in the bed for a fuel cell
I used as much used material as I possibly could. Most of the pipe was stuff that I had collected over the years out at my dad's farm. I think I only spent 35$ on the rectangle tube which was used from a welding shop as well. Scour your local junk yard or steel recycling yard for usable material! Most of all, have fun with your project! God Bless!
I don't know the exact weight and I wish I'd have figured it out because you aren't the only person wondering. I can tell you that my bed behaved the same way on the cherry picker as the stock long bed did- meaning that I would guess them to be very close in weight. Thank you for commenting and watching! God bless!
I do like the idea of the cans on the back but a tire in the bed is a huge pet peeve of mine. I grew up farming and moving spare tires around in truck beds to make room for loads, so taking up precious bed space with a tire is not an option for me. I have considered a roof rack for the tire, but I'm not too fond of that look either. Quite the dilemma because I also don't like the weight on the tail gate! We'll figure it out some day😊
I'd love to be able to go full time into my own fab shop and build things for people, but that is just a dream at the moment! Thank you for asking! God bless!

Haha thanks for watching God bless!! I have an exoskeleton for the front end in the works so keep an eye out!
Will do sir..
Good one.
did you leave the bed on when you were making this ? And did you just cut the sides off of the bed with a saw?
Good questions! I left the bed on and bolted tightly to the frame for the entire process until it was time to paint and do some finishing touches underneath. I trimmed the bed down with an angle grinder and cutoff wheel, but I would imagine that a sawzall would do fine as well. Thank you for watching and the questions! God Bless!
Awesome
SuperFuzzyman123 thank you, God bless!
I plan on building something like this for my truck what is the height of the bed sides and do they angle out a little?

Thank you very much! God bless!
How did you bend that large of round tubing? Did you have a pipe bender handy or did you heat it up and use a come along arrangement lol
I used a harbor freight pipe bender. They work ok for light bends on thick walled pipe and tube. Great question, thank you for watching and commenting! God bless!

I wonder how much weight was added to the truck
Hey Geb, approximately how much do you think the whole bed weighs ?
I don't know the exact weight and I wish I'd have figured it out because you aren't the only person wondering. I can tell you that my bed behaved the same way on the cherry picker as the stock long bed did- meaning that I would guess them to be very close in weight. Thank you for commenting and watching! God bless!
+GebBuilt always your builds are wicked
If you were ever to build these for people let us know! I'd love one made for my 84 chevy scottsdale
I'd love to go into my own full time business! God bless!
I would definitely do it. I've got a few trucks I wouldn't mind putting one of these beds on
put the canister and the ammo box on the back here the tire is and put the tire in the bed.
We'll figure it out some day😊
Then you should make a cage around the cab of the truck and put the tire on top (just suggestions)
Could you send some pics of it I'm wanting to build one for my truck like that
Check out my GebBuilt Facebook page, there may be some helpful shots on there! Hope that can help, God bless!
Nice truck bed . You dobt get a ticket for no mud flaps?.
I guess they don’t pay much attention to that where I live. I’m glad you like! Thank you for watching and commenting, God bless!
How nasty do your mirrors get with the tires out past the bed sides?
Quite nasty! God bless!
Are you Steve Zahn's brother?
Would you ever build one for someone
I'd love to be able to go full time into my own fab shop and build things for people, but that is just a dream at the moment! Thank you for asking! God bless!
I wish you sold these
Me too! God bless!
what size metal ?
The flat panels are 1/8" and the pipe and rectangle tubing are 3/16" wall. Hope that helps, thank you for watching and commenting! God Bless!!
thanks man this video really inspired me to fab up a flatbed
Awesome! Have some fun with it!
one last question did you stick weld or mig weld this
Great question! The big chunks I stick welded with 7018 rod, the more intricate areas (gas filler etc) I TIG welded.
2:33 That's what she said
