Look I'll pay anything to see Transformers meet GI Joe. The Rock and Optimus Prime on the screen at the same time is almost TOO cool
@@rokudamia2767 I can see Transformers and GI Joe somewhat together, but what about other franchises such as MLP?
Im so glad that someone else understands the both in universe and out of universe tragity that is Skyfire and Starscream's relationship. It would be such a good way to expand Starscream's character, and also Skyfire is the best transformer.
The 1980s movie had me crying in the theater because Hasbro was done selling some toys. My dad actually wrote a letter about Optimus's death--Hasbro responded with more toy ads, which actually makes sense.
LOL!!! That's so funny. Your dad sounds like a real nutjob. lol What an idiot.

@CommentCop Badge#666 Have you never seen a child who was very upset before? Not unusual for parents to do stuff about it.
I think that the gruesome deaths of the movie are due to the Japanese involvement with it, their science fiction anime of the era tended to be quite tragic: it wasn't uncommon for one or more main characters to die before the end of the show.
Optemus prime, Rhodimus prime and now amazon prime.

Since everyone keeps asking:
No. I didn't see the Netflix thing. People seem to think that I copied it because I knew all the same facts? Sorry, I just know a lot about Transformers.
Everyone knew about Diaclone long before Netflix read the wiki article.
For everyone wondering:
The Netflix thing seems to be _The Toys That Made Us_ Season 1 Episode 2.
@@Problematist you know it seems inherently more interesting to look into the toys than a soulless media corporation advertising their 'documentary' as if they still care about toys beyond the brand when we all know licensed lego is slowly killing original lego brands because no one cares about original franchises anymore unless its a reboot of something.

@@jgfjgfify If you're NOT from the USA, Transformers is just one between many toylines derived from SuperRobot cartoons, Bandai did this way before Hasbro (albeit, no doubt they too were inspired by Star Wars).
With the main difference being that some of these cartoons were actually good (case in point: Gundam).
Wait a minute, this isn't Gundam.
heebs boy he is a starman and you are wrong. In his speedy wagon he transcends the bizarre boundaries of platine stars and explores the vast universe standing as our template for the world made out of infinite echoes of reality.
Of course it's Gundam. Try paying attention.
What the hell is "Gundam" anyways?
Yeah, Bandai had the same idea quite a few years before Hasbro (starting with the Popy Mazinger Z though, Gundam came much later).
I grew extremely attached to the Transformers lore when I was 6. it got to a point in which I would consistently buy the generation 1 and movie action figures and review them regularly on CZcams around 2010-2011. I received an audience of 160 subscribers before deleting the channel due to a lack of interest. the original television series was campy as high hell, but I feel that as the franchise progressed into the modern day, many of those issues were fleshed out (if you exclude the movies, which were BAD, as we are all aware) in the video games, like War For Cybertron, and Fall of Cybertron, as well as Transformers: Prime which was a great animated program...
On the topic of the '86 movie, I wanted to also note that this was the last film that Orson Welles would ever be a part of, and the second-to-last for Scatman Crothers. Scatman had been voicing the beloved Jazz for some time, and saw firsthand how attached kids were to the Transformers. I hope he knew how much his work was loved. Though it saddens me that he never would get to see the movie go from controversial, to beloved and iconic. As for Orson, he was known for being critical of the flick, and struggled to get his lines out, forcing audio enhancement on some of his later lines, since he was so weak when recording them. So weak in fact, that he died a mere five days after completing his lines for the film. He at least did get his wish to be in an animated film. So I hope that was a comfort to him in his twilight hours. However, I would also like to think, that he would be quite pleased, knowing that his work for the film would serve to likely introduce him to millions more than before, and become one of his most beloved roles. He still is given reverence by Transformers Fans as being the greatest voice of Unicron, truly selling the terrible power the villain wielded. A truly beautiful swan song.
My favorite Transformer is

I guess in the end, The Transformers really were...

On one hand, a group of suits made these icons to sell me plastic. On the other hand, I have very fond childhood memories about the Transformers.
Hi huge transformers fan and quinton enthusiast. Have to say this was fascinating. The story behind why the Transformers shrink is absolutely hilarious.
Well you shouldn't laugh. It happens to us all when we come out the swimming pool. The cold water just causes the shrinkage. It's not our fault.

That rubik segment was crazy. Loved the angry caravan wagon bearded villian.
Man...i needed this video
Growing up, i loved the transformers. Loved all the unique designs and the nature of it alll. Its what drove me to have an interest in robotics and art.... and hell, im only 17. So i grew up with some of the best and worst of the series (best in my opinion being war for cybertron and fall of cybertron)
And yknow.... having a shitton those toys growing up let my creativity really flow. Id make up stories and battles, combine legos to make battlescenes, tried my hadn at stopmotion even. Hell, at one point i remember using clay as a sort of "alien virus" and sticking it on to a bunch of them haha
Thank you for this. It reminded me why this franchise has been my favourite since i was a small child. Thank you
"Beast Wars happens here." Thrown in with no Fanfare and and abandoned without elaboration. Those kind of interjections are probably my favorite Quinton Reviews signatures.
Only in America can a gun be described as a 'normal household item' and no one bats an eye.
Really fun and informational video, especially for someone that didn't really grow up with Transformers and never got the appeal!
Oh boy do I recommend playing Transformers: "War for Cybertron" and "Fall of Cyberton". These games are made with such love and respect to the source material while being great titles on their own (especially the second one) that they made me fall back in love with the franchise.
Optimus Prime died for our sins.

Jesus? Who's talking about Jesus? I meant Paul Walker.

Paul Walker doesn't exist. He's a fictional character.
Apparently the generally negative reaction to Optimus’s death in the movie influenced the decision to have Duke fall into a coma instead of dying when the GI Joe movie was released the following year.
If you ever feel like doing more Transformers videos, please do not hesitate. I love this stuff.
Also, War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron are the best interpretations of the franchise, don't @ me.
I disagree with Caleb, this is a dope video.

So glad you changed your mind on making this video. It's so interesting!!
I actually might watch the Transformers movie now.
You should watch transformers prime and animated after, they are very good cartoons tho animated takes a while to get really good
Lindsay Ellis: nice vids

Nice video Quinton, I enjoyed it
I don't know why but that line about Lazerbeak turning into a cassette tape is way funnier to me than it has any right to be.
I remember a toy I had, it was Megatron toy and it could transform from a car to Megatron to a jet, but I remember that it was extremely hard to transform it to anything that I gave up and it was just a tangled mess...
I loved that toy lol
The ending bit describes my relationship with Ninjago. Yeah, they're toys but it's so much more than that. If the Ninjago movie came out 20 years later like Transformers did, there would definitely be backlash from fans.

Hi Quinton! Just wanted to say I love your videos!
That 1986 transformer movie... it blew my mind back then, like nothing i'd ever seen. I remember watching the transformers show on TV every week, hoping it would ever get as good again... and it never did. It really is one of the movies that left the biggest impressions of me during my childhood.
Great video bud, it reminded me how much I enjoyed the original Transformers movie. Thank you.
i had the transformers movie as a kid. It is one of my most prominent memories. When watching it I would suddenly get inspired then run up to my room, grab some transformers, which i would then play with while watching the movie 😂
Great Video Quniton! I just saw the 1986 movie Thursday and it was great!
There really should've been more episodes about Starscream and Skyfire.
Starscream is my favorite transformer, best painted F-15 you’ll ever see.
Great job man
Wow you actually released a whole video on Transformers! Thanks for listening, keep up the great content.
Your insight on this movie being important beyond the kids already watching the cartoon was earnestly really interesting
thank god you finally did this video
The 86 movie is legit awesome. Killer soundtrack as well.
I'll never be able to look at a Rubik's Cube the same way again
Mate 1980s transformers reruns were my childhood. I used to watch them at like 5 am on fox kids and later jetix back in the early 2000s
10:59 Oh my god, that scene from Transformers 3 was actually based off the show.
They should make an animated SquareSpace series where websites fight each other for the control of Earth.
and who could forget the best part of the 80s movie... the weird al dance number
Never got in to transformers as a kid. Same thing with turtles. I had video games when I was growing up. I would later get really interested in Robotech and have to try really hard to track down those toys. Really enjoyed this, I learned a lot.
My favourite corporate nonsense with the Transformers is how the toys supposedly can't say that they "transform" because if so "Transformers" stops being a name and becomes a descriptive of toy function, and therefore they can't keep the trademark
that's in the show though- I mean in the toy packaging. IIRC it still slips through sometimes, but by and large, they refer to the "transforming" as "change"
It's like a normal Quinton Reviews, with a really real looking gun.
I'm really excited for the new bumblebee movie. Even if it's not good, it's still the best version of the bots of g1.
Man, I adore those G1 designs
I used to watch my vhs copy of the transformers movie at least once a day when I was a small child.
I'm a strange pony. My jaw drop when Starscream got blasted, but not with OP.
This was all in "the toys that made us". Except with less information.
Been waiting for this video since twitter
Sure, the original Transformers may have been one big commercial and I'm old enough to realize that... But I still want an MP-10 Optimus Prime toy, dammit.
I personally feel that this toy industry scheme is what lead to people seeing animation as primaraly for kids
Nah, it goes back to the 1950's television. When television was new they used to show classic animated shorts during daytime when children were stuck in front of the tv, while they showed entertainment shows (quiz shows, Ed Sullivan night show etc) for adults later in the evening. For this reason animation was seen as something which only kids watch. Tv soaps appeared in the mid 60's and those were seen to be "for women only" since mostly housewives watched them.
It may sound stereotypical today but back then people had a very narrow and too-simplified view of what kinds of tv entertainment different kinds of people should watch. Animation of any kind? For kids. That's what most people believed. There were in fact attempts at more adult animated films in the 60's (and even more so in the 70's) but the world wasn't really ready for them and they generally flopped because they were marketed wrong.
With the advent of cable-tv in the late 70's and early 80's tv producers and toy companies rubbed their hands when they realized they now could flood the tv with cartoons targeted towards different age brackets of kids. You see by the 80's most households had more than one tv which meant that kids didn't have to yield to whatever their parents were watching at the same time, and since there were more than just 3-4 national channels there were now networks which broadcast action cartoons for kids for hours. Syndication networks became ever more popular. They didn't just have to fight for a tiny spot for animated shows in the afternoon or mornings on few channels. So by the 80's the view that animation was specifically for kids hit its absolute peak. That being said the 80's really was the birth of the nerd culture too (the irony) and the availability of VHS tapes meant children could record their favorite toons and watch them again and again... Some years later when these same kids were in their teens quite of few of them picked up their old VHS recordings and rewatched their favorite animated series and were still fascinated. Enter comic book and toon conventions...
By the 1990's The Simpsons had successfully changed people's die-hard opinion that animated series were solely for little kids and it therefore became way more accepted to watch animated films as an adult. But from the 1950's to the early 90's almost all adults believed animation = for 2-12 year olds. This was *way before* the 1980's.
We rented Transformers: The Movie for my 10th birthday. The party ended immediately after Optimus Prime died because every kid in the room was bawling their eyes out.
All in all it was still one of my better birthday parties lol
