  • Hello everyone!
    Welcome back to my channel :)
    I completely understand there are thousands of students in different/worse situations than myself but this was my personal reaction. I had worked so hard for that A* or even an A and I am truly let down.
    However, I feel a lot better knowing there are other people who can relate to me and are going through the same thing.
    I hope the rest of you are pleased with your results and for those who aren’t, we can only hope the appealing process is a lot smoother than this!

    Soooo hard to 'like' this video. What's to like. Government have disregarded hours of teachers' work and gone for an algorithm that's clearly a pile of crap!! So proud of how you handled this, all your years of hard work as a student and for being the amazing young lady you are xx

      Tracy Simpkin 😊 thank you! I feel so bad for the teachers as well, it feels like their work has gone to waste as the Government have just ignored them! ESPECIALLY when they know us better than anyone! XX

    My brother had the same thing, he got two grades lower than his mocks and people who got lower than him are about two grades higher. The whole grading thing is stupid and it’s really not fair

    • @itsjxylxn
      @itsjxylxn  Před 4 lety +33

      It makes no sense!!! And you’d think they’d take the actual evidence of what the students are capable of into account, for example: the mocks and what the teachers have said! Why would they assume high achievers would automatically perform worse in their final exams?! Crazy! I hope your brother appeals and it gets sorted!!

      How did the grades change so drastically?! That’s honestly ridiculous!!! I’m so angry for you! Hopefully because everyone is in similar situations, there’s enough people who have appealed to cause an uproar and the government fix this mess and Unis are more considerate (if we’re lucky)

    • @Joshua-eh1qg

      itsjxylxn I go to a grammar school in Northern Ireland where they have downgraded overall grades by nearly 40%. Individually my school was downgraded by a third in grades. Honestly was so confused and flabbergasted myself. I am appealing tho

    • @itsjxylxn
      @itsjxylxn  Před 4 lety +3

      I’m unsure of my schools exact statistic but let’s just say I didn’t see a single teacher or student genuinely happy with the results. Mostly everyone I spoke to had been downgraded so I felt my school went through a similar process like yours. I’m so glad you appealed, it’s the only thing we can really do right now.

    • @Joshua-eh1qg
      @Joshua-eh1qg Před 4 lety +2

      itsjxylxn it’s seems a very inconsistent algorithm they are using, for example a person in my school got all B’s this year and ended up with 2 A’s and a B. Makes no sense. Yeah hopefully the appeal process will bring clarity. I have an unconditional for my 2nd choice but don’t want to go really. Might repeat a ywar

    • @itsjxylxn
      @itsjxylxn  Před 4 lety +2

      I also noticed in my school students with lower grades in their mocks and lower grades given by the teachers had been upgraded by the system?! And the high achievers were down graded. It truly makes no sense and I’m so angry for everyone. Hopefully they’ve put a bit more thought into the appealing system!

      I really really hope your daughter is pleased with her results - but unfortunately, based on the A-level results there’s no surprise she’s very anxious. I’m hoping there’s been enough backlash from the A-level results that the government will fix the mess they’ve made and approach the GCSE results differently. I have appealed but even our teachers don’t really know what that means or what’s going to come from it. Thank you so much for your comment! I actually can’t believe Uni’s haven’t been more lenient like they claimed they would be. I really hope the appeal process works for us all and we all get our teacher assessed grades/the grades we deserve!! Wishing you the best X

    Hello, I am a high school senior student. I have my SAT in 2 months, my APs in 4 months, CLEP in 5 months, board exams in 4 months and one subject test in 4 months. ( i gave one subject test and got 800, and 1400 in SAT but will give again.) My board is an indian board (CBSE). i was wondering, should i give AS and A level in 3 subjects in june? I am pretty sure I already know a lot of syllabus as it overlaps from other tests but I am still unsure and very confused. Do tell please.....

    • @itsjxylxn
      @itsjxylxn  Před 3 lety

      You should ask your teacher whether you’re already studying something equivalent to an AS or A level. If you’re already completing something similar to an AS or A level - there would be no point adding extra onto your already busy workload. But if you aren’t and you feel you already know a lot of the content and have the time and mental capacity, this may also be the best option for you to expand on your knowledge and grades.

    • @itsjxylxn
      @itsjxylxn  Před 3 lety

      I’m not sure what the legal requirements are but I assume they’d ask for all of your exams that prove you can accomplish your overall grade, rather than you having the option to specifically just give them your Year 11 A/S level. Again, I’d check that with your teacher because our examination system will be different from yours. However, if you did well in your A/S in your year 11, I’m sure that will average your overall junior grade to be higher. Don’t worry!

I know this must be incredibly hard at the moment but know I am so proud of you and your future self will be so proud of you and thankful for how much effort you’ve put it. I know it must be hugely overwhelming at the moment but don’t overwork yourself. Make sure you give yourself only a few tasks each day - you can’t do everything at once. I find that the more work I do, the more I forgot. So if you’re studying, make sure you break it down because if you’re studying too much at the same time it will all pile on top of each other! I wish you the absolute best, you sound incredibly hard working so I believe you’ll be okay :)

    Hi, did you end up getting your A*A*A? I hope you did as it seemed well deserved. Also, I saw you did AQA a level sociology, I’m in year 12 and I’m doing the same. How did you find the best way to revise for it specifically? As I’m struggling to find what technique works best for sociology due to the intense amount of content and names to remember. If you could give any tips specified towards it then that would be greatly appreciated :)

    • @itsjxylxn
      @itsjxylxn  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes I did, thank you! My method of revising was very much around mind-maps for sociology. For example, with class ethnicity and gender, I would have a mind map on each of those. With gender in the middle, I would stem from that different categories within gender (with titles of said categories and the info underneath). Once I had written out the necessities (because I find my best way to revise is to write out the key info), I’d narrow it down further with a post it note. On the post it note, (that I stuck on top of the specific mindmap), I’d have key words or key sociologists relevant to gender, that would trigger a memory or the rest of the information. If ever I’d forget what a key word meant or what a sociologist said, it would also be highlighted on the mind map and I would be able to quickly read the info and test myself again via the post it. This helped because in my exam if there was a question on gender, I’d quickly write the small list of key words in the top right, that I remembered I had on my post it and as I was writing the essay, I would refer back to the keywords that would trigger my memory. Overtime I realised if I said ‘blank name’ ‘boys intelligence’ my brain would connect the sociologist with the key word and the rest would fall into place. I hope that all made sense, it’s hard not to show you my revision notes visually!

    At least your teachers didn’t mess up, the teachers at my sixth form college tried to be ‘fair’ so lowered the majority of our grades by at least 1 from the grades we were getting so now I’m stuck with grades I’ve never got in two of those subjects. No hate but I’m kinda pissed your mate got a C in maths when he was predicted an E cause now he keeps the higher grade, yet I never got a C in my life in maths and was given a C because over 400 people in my college do maths so they lowered legit everyone’s grade by 1 or 2.

    • @itsjxylxn

    hi genuine question, as i’m not so sure how the a level system works. doesn’t the exam board base your grade on the final exam? so you may have been predicted a good grade but didn’t do well in the exam, so how does predicted grade and final grade matter if you didn’t do well in the final exam. sorry to be asking, i’m just curious

    • @itsjxylxn
      @itsjxylxn  Před 2 lety

      Hi, no worries for asking - because this was during Covid and lockdown, we weren’t able to do our final exams which meant our final grades were based on our predicted grades. Our predicted grades are decided by all of the work we’ve handed in and all of the mock exams or the end of terms exams we had done - the combination of all our work was put down to our final grades instead of a final exam because of Covid. I was upset because the government made an algorithm to decide what our grades could have been if we had had our final exam - but they didn’t reflect all the work we had done, that the teachers had been marking and examined. Luckily, after petitions and complaints from students, our grades were then officially changed to what our teachers had predicted our grades to be which reflected us as individuals so much better :) I hope that all makes sense - in quick summary, we didn’t have a final exam and this was my reaction to the governments algorithm before it changed to our predicted grades! Unfortunately, I know lots of people who didn’t get into their Unis :( Only appeal if you’re disappointed and felt you could do better in the actual exams. The worse an appeal is going to do is simply not change your grade, so it’s worth a shot if you were predicted higher x

      @@itsjxylxn I did take them back in 2016. Except I took Geography not English Language. I wish I took something slightly more challenging, sociology and media were piss easy. Eng Lit was a harder a level but you were allowed the book with my exam board so it was fine.

      Ah I took English Lit and Lang, maybe the course has become harder because there was a lot of information and theorists to learn for both Sociology and Media.
