she's not a classical singer. she's a rock vocalist in Korea. maybe you'll shocked to hear her performance 'Lonely Night' in 'King of Masked Singers' (Korean original program) you'll find out the other side of her as a rock vocalist.
You were on point. Park Ki Young is not classically trained professionally. She's actually rock singer and some pop.
She has a luxurious voice with no rough edges. Like satin sheets. It's so relaxing to listen to.

Wow. Never heard of her but within a few seconds I got chills and tears in my eyes. Her voice and the setting is so ethereal.
영어가 약해서 이 여자가 뭐라는지 하나도 모르겠고 내가 기영님의 이 영상을 처음 보고 느낀 것은 하늘나라 천사가 지상에 내려와 인간들을 위해 노래를 하나 부른다면 딱 이랬을 것 같다는 거였다. 지금도 어쩌면 기영님은 천사일지도 모른다는 생각을 하고 산다.

Thank you so much for the Park Ki Young reaction! She's actually more well known for singing pop or rock style and this was her first time singing a song in a mostly classical-style since she started taking classical voice lessons. Years back she was on a Pop Goes Opera style show and that sparked an interest in learning classical singing, so it became her dream to be able to perform this song live!
If you want to see more of her in her usual style, I highly recommend either her performances of Yeonan Pier or Spring Rain! Yeonan Pier has an almost jazzy lounge vibe, and Spring Rain is definitely more of a rock style. I think you'd really like those!

난 박기영님이 이렇게 세계적으로 인정받을 날이 올거라고 믿었다. 정말정말 잘 하는 가수거든... 오페라스타 이후로 거의 득음에 가까운 실력 향상을 한 대단한 가수. 30대 중반에 가수는 보통 기량이 떨어지기 시작하는데, 오히려 업그레이된 모습을 보고... 노력하는 천재구나 싶었음.

Park Ki Young is insane. She’s got a song called Coordination that I like a lot and it gets surprisingly impressive at the end since it starts out super simply lol
The face is ALi (Cho Yong Jin) the Queen of Immortal Songs and has appeared on the show dozens of times since it's inception .. she has won the most trophy's of female singers on the show and only suppassed by 1 male singer DongHa she also carried the highest score achieved on the show for 3 years before it was broken this past year .. she is my personal Queen and an amazing talent and Soprano but a much different vibe than So Hyang much more Jazz/R&B and a rich raspy voice though can still hit clear and bright high notes .. if you ever react to her I would start with her English covers of Flying Without Wings or perhaps Dillon's Knocking on Heavens Door from Immortal Songs.. where So Hyang is a Vocal Performer .. ALi is a performance performer and many of her appearance on the show are performance based.

Park Kiyoung started out singing rock music, so the influence is there in part. She recently started singing more classical songs, which she describes as very difficult!

Yes, yes, yes!!! More Park Ki Young please. Everyone reacts to So Hyang, but to me she is in the same league and often overlooked. Her other songs from the same TV show Immortal Songs are stunning, especially Yeonan Pier & Spring Rain.

Thanks for your reaction and analysis of this beautiful piece. Yes Pak ki Young is not an opera singer however I enjoyed her interpretation. Only one thing does not fully satisfy me. I am Italian and yet I can only understand a few words of the song's lyrics, this one like others, when it is rendered by foreign singers. In this case, the melody without the words is like a bird with only one wing.

Her singing took me right back home close to Tibet, where I couldn’t return for two years. It’s Christine nature so vast and Boundaryless just like her voice. A gentle shimmering melody so pure and innocent melted the ice on my heart. in that sweet soft soothing place I found the child I thought I once lost. Immortal Songs 2 is a favorite of mine. I’ve found some really interesting and amazing performers through this show. Some that come to mind are Forestella, Ali, Song SoHee, Son SeungYeon and Wheesung.

Two items of note first her and So Hyang are special friends and second she is a Contemporary POP and some Rock but after 20 years wanted to try Classical, this is her first attempt!!!
Sarah Brightman's version has always been one of my top favorite piece of music of all time. Interesting to see other singers doing and adding different things to this beautiful classic piece.

넬라 판타지아를 컬러링 해놓고 지내면서 수없이 듣노라니 천상의 목소리가 바로 박기영씨임을 다시금 깨닫게되는 순간 입니다.
Longtime So Hyang fan who just dicovered PKY and this is the performance that hooked me. Obviously they get compared a lot as they are both sopranos with crystal clear head voices who can mix very high but PKY didn't grow up immersed in 90's diva pop like So Hyang. As a result of that and the fact that she's not as proficient in the language PKY doesn't do nearly as many English language covers which makes her a bit less accessible to those outside Korea. In addition to their similar voices though what ties them together is that they both just radiate a core goodness which is impossible to fake. These aren't performers motivated by fame or money but by a simple desire to comfort and inspire their audience (check out her performance of The Prayer with Kim Hyukgun if you want another example.) Thank you so much for this reaction and I hope you add her to your regular rotation as her other IS2 performances are just as epic.

I’m not sure what it is about Korean soprano’s and mezzo-soprano’s I love. Maybe it’s the style of training that’s done there but they are some of my favourite singers. There’s another version of this sung by Kim Eun Kyong. An older performance and more traditional but still beautiful.

Thank you so much for reacting to Park Ki Young ! She's my favorite korean singer and I definitely think she's underrated. I think she was classicaly trained but sang a lot of rock songs. If you want to hear more of her, you might want to react to Song For You, Yeonan Pier, Spring Rain or The Northern Man, The Southern Woman !
I would also suggest to react to Son Seung Yeon - Lost Love ! She's one of the greatest vocalists of this generation and I'm sure you would love her !
Back a week later and shocked how few views this reaction has netted considering that both PKY's performance and this reaction are just about as close to perfection as you can get.
I didn't cry when I heard the original song of Nella Fantasia, but I cried when I heard Park Ki-young's song, and I felt something healing, I'm Korean and I didn't understand your English well, but it's so fun to see you interpret it in detail and fun ~:D

Park Ki Young is terrific. She and Sohyang became best friends when they shared the role of Maria in "Sound of Music" some years back. They both started out as rockers - secular and Christian. They are voice faculty at the same arts university.
The face you noted is Ali who also is a terrific singer and even better performer. Sohyang had the same expression on her face when she watched Ali singing Binari.
