I went to the most northern town in America to make a short documentary about what the town was actually like. This is hopefully a good depiction of Barrow Alaska, the most northern town in the United States.

Every two months everyone gets about almost 2000 from ASRC. Most natives carve a lot of stuff like my dad. He sells them and gets a lot of money from it. I'm starting to carve too.
What is the best month to view the Northern Lights in Alaska?
The people calling it depressing are pre-depressed millennials looking for a platform to rationalize their depression, so oftentimes on Reddit and CZcams, you'll see people calling things which are simply mundane/uninteresting, "depressing," but it's frankly more revealing about them than anything else.
Aurora Borealis, at this time of year, in this part of the country, localized entirely in the Northern Hemisphere?

I live in Alaska. I'm seeing comments saying "Why would anyone want to live there." Please don't say that. There are lots of other towns above and under the Arctic Circle too. You have to realize that living there is a way of life, (hunting, fishing, whaling, etc). I know this because I know some people who live in Barrow and also I'm Yupi'k, which is one of many cultures here in Alaska. Living up here isn't always cold and dark, that happens in the winter time. Plus its beautiful. Even in the city!

I am so grateful I was able to do this and meet the amazing people of this tiny town.
Barrow is cold but not particularily cloudy (especially given the latitude). Its sunshine hours is around 1800 per year which is very decent for a place in the high arctic. It's actually more than London, UK, Lima, Peru or San Sebastian, Spain - all of which have very mild climates.

A couple points to make.
1) There is a road. You drive from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay, on the Dalton Highway, From there, It's called the Community Winter Access Trail (CWAT) and you can only use it during the winter. Convoys of cars drive from Prudhoe Bay to Utqiagvik, but you are required to get approval to use it.
2) It's not really dark in the winter. The sun never fully rises, but there is some light on the horizon, and the tundra is covered in white snow that makes it easy to see. Either the city lights bounce off low clouds and illuminate town, or the moon does it.
3) Utqiagvik is the new official name. Many locals still prefer the old name.
4) You can see polar bears, snowy owls, arctic fox in and around town. It has some of the best birding in North America!
This was very informative. I didn't know people lived in places like that. High prices, very little supply, and such a cold, cold place.
Its no longer Barrow, it's Utqiagvik. I love it there. Buy the way we have lots of places you cant drive to. It's illegal to buy sell or possess, it's a dry Village. Just like Manokotak, Togiak etc. Its currently 46 degrees in Utqiagvik today.
Thanks for the info!

Please do "If all 50 state split into independent territories"
That would be possible cuz each state has its own government. 🤔
Mantana Jansi but it wouldn't because the federal government doesn't allow states to leave the union once a territory joins
ItsMikeHere_ video is called is America even a country
Mantana Jansi just having a government is not good enough for a state to survive on its own. It needs an economy, most of the states receive federal funding to help rebuild roads and fund education. California however, would probably do the best on its own since its economy is about as big as France's. Then there is also military defense, every state would have no way to defend itself from other countries. It'll just be one giant disaster.
Oh,okay then.

0:22 It's 0.005 or 0.5% but not 0.005%, that would mean Alaska has 7 thousand people.
Uploader doesn't care as long as gets his ad revenue. :p
NBK Srbija Actually, shouldn't it be 0.05 or 5% ?
+Ralph Pedigree 738,000/142,000,000=0.00519718... Where are you getting 0.05 from?
Gameboygenius oh, you're right. My math was off. Somehow in my head it was 5%
m121 "noobs" you're one of those edgy kids
Thnkk uu fr such a wondrful video.. Got to knw intrstng facts abt barrow
4:02 A fire Department. Yes, I Like these fires that ocure at -48 °C
Fires are surprisingly dangerous when it's so cold that there's no liquid water around. Things can actually get really dry when it never rains, only snow.
Fire don't really care about temperature. When you're 2500 degrees, everywhere is cold.
Damn I though I was gangsta living in anchorage
Anchorage is a Awesome City
No
Anchorage is like 61°N.... at that ° you’re still in the southern half of sweden, southern norway and southern finland
Johan Fagerström Jarlenfors yes but north america is colder than europe
@@cristhyancaballero1964 Because of the Gulf Stream, and by extension the North Atlantic Current.
Dude, really cool that you went and filmed yourself. It's amazing seeing what your videos are becoming! Could you include metric measurements in some way though? You have a lot of fans outside the US.
PaulCosch Well it makes sense that he has used imperial for this video since Alaska is part of the US
Steven Green A video.. in the US.. about a US town.. in the US.. would obviously be appealing to those of us in the US.. And we just happen to use imperial.. so it'd make sense the video used that measurement for us viewers in the US.. if foreigners want to understand the measurements they can do a quick Google search..
Steven Green Yes but admittedly most viewers who watch these videos especially about the *_USA_* are mainly watched by people here in the *_USA._*
Steven Green Oh I am very interested in the world outside the US, but I don't expect them to covert to imperial for us Americans when they're talking about another country, if I really wanted conversions I'd do it myself, I really don't understand how you don't get this.
I live in barrow, sure it’s expensive but we live like this
How do people earn wages high enough to sustain living there?
Like, what kinds of jobs are so lucrative that it's better to stay than to go to a place where the cost of living is more normal?
@@MrNicoJac well we do fishing and other jobs cause Alaska has many lakes
Wait, I thought Russia sold Alaska to us.
@@JustJimmyGD we kept barrow as an exclave
@@Jdm491 Interesting, I didn't know that.
Well done, Thanks for the effort . I hope the expedition was worth it for you .
