That should be the max what you can get out of the SMC transmission... still a little lag but damn what a nice car... And the sound of those E46 6 cylinder engines... love it! ❤❤❤
get a sim racer in your house and do hundreds of laps of the ring and i promise you will have the car to its limits very quickly, knowing the corners is the biggest thing with the ring for going fast, everything after that is setup and the conditions on the day

@@goldtutch I did a load of laps on Forza before my first trip 2 years ago, so learnt the basic corner directions from there. What you don't get in even a proper sim is the elevation changes and g-forces. I've done maybe 80 laps now (in real life!) and feel like I am getting to know the place. There's a lap on my channel from later in the day after the lap with Misha,.
The E46 is just such a good car, isn't it... affordable, nimble, comfortable, confidence inspiring and, when propperly maintained, will last you a lifetime.
original owner 06 here, 172k miles almost 20 yrs later. those maintenance bills tho.....

Just a 330Ci SMG owner here, but my 21yo example is still in perfect shape, so I definitely support that opinion.
Prices are creeping up. A clean/mint, low milage one is 60-70k€ ish… for 40k€ some higher milage ones, but you can spend another 30-40k to get those to good standard. I had one years ago 2006-2010 desperately want one again…i’ll be looking to replace the M2 soon. Not sure, new M2 or E46.
CSL or not, E46 M3 is my favourite generation of M3 ever... I don't care if the newer M3/M4 are faster, this is my favourite.
E46 m3 don't age what so ever best m3 apart from e30
I own an e46 and have driven the f80, yeah its fantastic but its not the same experience. The new one is a farrrrr superior car day to day though.

The E46 M3 is the definition of a BMW M car imo. The CSL is just the icing on the cake for track. Every time I see a video featuring a CSL, it brings me tears of joy. Thank you for uploading this video with such glorious sound!

E46 M3 / S54 was peak BMW M division. Downhill ever since.
The F80 was not downhill
Very smooth ride indeed. Also the blue porsche was funny. Blockes you before mutkurve, then floors it trying to lose you and before he realized you were in his back bumper and had to move aside and hit the brakes 😂
Some of the best engine noises of any production car, incredible.
There are somes better like e60 m5, the LFA v10
But yeah, the in line6 sounds so good as well (even the series engines) #eargasms
I remember when these were new they were about as common in the TF car park as GT3s are now. Good times.

@@frog382it does i have the s54 and my brother has the s62 it legit has to be the most sensitive engine in the world if it sounds any little bit different i’ll think it’s gonna blow up
BMW has hired A.I. to perform a design study for future vehicles. After 8 trillion permutations in 0.3sec, A.I. admits it can't do better than the e46 M3 CSL.
When you drive an SMG like a manual it works perfect, it's not an auto.
E46 is the goat M3. No question. A LSB LCI spec is perfection.

This bmw's specially e36/e46 ones are so focking great. Old is gold, I don't know but in this case, sure!

My E46 M3 has around 300000km on the clock. Well the engine has been replaced at 280000km because of the rod bearings, but everything elso is working great!
I would never ever sell this car!

I had a 2006 M3 Stock SMG, had to trade for Audi Quattro when I moved to Colorado. I love that wind-up sound!

Hello Comrade... watching this video reminds me of all the good times I had with my E46 M3 CSL, especially @ The Ring 🥰 although I never lifted on upshifts in S6 MODE 😉 Seems unreal that the E46 CSL is already 20 years old. THANX for the memories 👍
You don’t have to lift, but you can see how violent S6 flat shifts are on the GoPro. It’s so much smoother when you lift slightly, and I personally like the additional interaction with the car. I’m not racing, so am not bothered about losing 10ths or 100ths on each upshift, and am convinced it’s kinder to a 20 year old drivetrain and chassis.

Can you imagine this csl with the e92 m3 dct transmission in it... that would be insane.
It would be much more weight, and almost no improvement in shifting speed
@@plingvaldsen don't know how you can say 'almost no improvement' when this SMG shifts in about 300ms while the fastest DCTs do it in around 100ms.
There's a very noticeable power-to-power delay when the SMG shifts which you don't get in a DCT (nor in a decent torque converter auto actually).

200ms decrease in shift time isnt much when you add almost twice the weight
Dct is just as heavy as 8hp70, thats the reason we dont get dct anymore
M235i cup car has 8hp transmission

Fantastic lap. The slight feathering of the throttle on upshift is a definite improvement. I found the same when I had an Alfa Romeo selespeed. The shifts were much smoother if you just ever so lightly lifted off as you shifted.
What an awesome little car. Definitely a drivers car, doesn't have the most power ever but it can handle quite well especially with a skilled driver.

Driving an E46 M3 CSL for the first time was actually one of the best if not THE BEST driving experience I‘ve ever had. It was a joy to hear the Airbox making beautiful „noises“ 🤤😍
The CSL is one of my three most favorite BMW M-models and it will be there forever!

It was a combination of joy, mixed with mild hysteria - I’m not the best passenger usually! Stick is fun, but for me at least, not having to take my hands off the wheel when lapping the ‘ring, means SMG suits me (and the car).

The E46 M3 CSL is worth £70k to £100k in the UK. Absolute timeless classic
E46 M3 CSL with manual conversion is a top 10 dream car for me.
I wouldn’t convert a csl. The smg is a fine transmission once you learn to drive it properly. The main problem with my smg was reliability. On a csl it’s worth it to just maintain it because the car is so rare and collectible.
@@AC-wl7vejust the relays and smg pump that go mainly, the gearbox is perfect and rarely goes. It’s identical to the manual
People have done and it just ain’t that good. Smg is perfect and quicker and adds to the driving experience
@@latbeast Not worth the money... sure... but a manual is objectively more engaging than an SMG and that's why people do it. It's not about "speed".
@@paskowitz few people have done it with them but they found it wasn’t what they thought and converted back to smg. I’ve had a csl since 2005 and never sold it. Last thing I’d do is convert it. Smg is great once you learn it

It's fun to see Misha in an e46 M3. I have a e85 Z4M which is very similar. I run Kumho Ecsta v730 tires. Michelin seems to be the go-to but I wonder how v730 tires would handle the ring?

E46 M3 need some special enforcement especially on the rear suspension areas where the body begins to crack ... of course if driven on track ...
