van staal x series 200 fishing reel new york surf fishing sealed surf fishing reel how to cast bailess - Sport
I like fishing videos with no fish. Reminds me of my trips too often and It keeps me from hating on you and you seem like a nice fellow.
A salesman at a show showed me, he lifts the rod straight up& the line moves back toward the rod. crank & it is on. I have the previous version purchased about 6 years ago on a lami Ron Ara surf pro 11', 1-3oz. Both new never used due to old man with injuries. Maybe I'll try this year. Good luck this season.
Sweet setup! I purchased the Van Staal VR150 with the Tsunami SALT X 9.6M rod last weekend , loving 🥰 it. Great 👍🏼 video thanks for all you do, I’m in the learning phase and appreciate your content and support! Fish 🎣 On! Gabe from Brooklyn, NY.
Very nice! I hope it works out well for you!
congrats on the purchase bud! You will come to love the van staal more and more. You wont blow through so many reels now
Thanks so much Jake! I already love this thing, and it certainly feels soooo much stronger and well built compared to the other reels I’ve been blowing through
Definitely takes some time and practice. But you’ll get the hang of it. Great video as always. Tight lines
Thanks so much man, I appreciate the support. Been fishing a couple days straight with it since I got it, it seems a bit less confusing now 😂 good luck out there 🤙🏼 #smoochandrelease
I have been using VS bail less for about 6 years now and would never go back. You will get used to it and it becomes second nature. Great video.
Thank you! Yes! I don’t even have to think about it anymore 🙏🏼
Congrats on the new reel i have the 150 ! Just always make sure crank handle is down when you cast ! Puts spool out . You will get the hang of it in no time !👍🙏❤️
Awesome. Thanks for the tip Chuck!
Awesome video like aways love the new reel congrats i have the vsx 150 i would definitely recommend a power knob best thing i did for the reel ! Enjoy the reel and tightlines!
Thanks Vincent, I appreciate it. I definitely have to get the power knob. I’ve been catching some schoolies on it in the surf, and it soooo small it dang near slips out of my hand 😂
Yeah same here it was slipping out of my hand also ha ha and hopefully the big stripers are moving in soon !
Good luck with the new reel Practice that's the key tight lines..
Thank you man! Everything can be learned with a little bit of practice🤙🏼🤙🏼
Once you get used to the VS, you’ll never look back bro. It’s an awesome piece of equipment
I already feel that way. I like it a lot!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
with the van staal they are all about timing and the way the spool is all the way up. so when the reel handle is all the way down the reel spool is all the way up that will allow the line to come out better and get a better cast best of luck.
Cool. Thanks bro 🤙🏼 I appreciate it 🙌🏼
Video good thanks your
You'll get the hang of it in a day or two😎👍
Thanks man. I’ve got it down pretty good right now. Always room for improvement of course
Cool video! I want to Try bail-less but I’m. Not familiar with the bail less? When I flip the bail on my spin reel it releases the line , How does one release the line on a bail less reel? Sorry new to this , thanks!george
Welcome to the vsx club. There’s no going back 😏 hands down the best reel for heavy surf and when going on rocks or jetties! Have fun and tight lines!!!
Thanks so much Roberto, I’m using it in the Montauk surf, and I’ve never felt so at piece with my reel getting slapped with waves 🤙🏼🤙🏼
@@rainsong7327 I love both! I feel like it’s neck and neck just have the van staal spool well exposed. It also depends on the line used and then of course the elements. I’m really looking into getting a slammer IV DX would you happen to have the new slammer? I’d love to use it for chunking for big blues and stripers
What’s the backlash and play like in the gear, spool and handle?
As soon as you said there’s never any beach, I had a sense of fear, reminiscent of seeing those before the Tsunami, walking out with curiosity to investigate the surf😢
hallo, how does this reel works with a 0.23 mono line for small fishing :)
thanks master
🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
have you done a maintenance on this reel yet? if im able to fish on the piers with little to no saltwater contact (maybe a lil saltspray), do i need to have em serviced every season?
Call Van Staal.
Hey bro you should check out "DAIWA SAMURAI BRADE" it is the thinnest diameter line so you can get 50lb samurai which will be the diameter of 25lb power pro and the samurai is very strong and once you cast with that line you'll never ever use any other line in the world mark my words and if I'm wrong call me out on it
Hi! If you don’t mind me asking, what settings do you film your GoPro in?
4k24fps, low iso settings, shutter no slower then 1/50 and flat image to adjust color in Post
@@GetReelBassFishing Thank you so much!
Takes practice don’t give up....Fish on
Yes! Thank you!
Thanks for the Vid! Question for you: I noticed that you had a SaltX 4000 reel on this 10'6 rod previously and replaced it with the VSX200. I have been saving up for a SaltX reel and hope to purchase soon (unfortunately the VS is way out of my budget!). I have a similar 10'6 rod but was planning on getting the saltx 6000 based on some recommendations. The VSX200 is closer in size to the 6000, what made you decide to upsize from the 4000? Would the 6000 reel work well on that size rod, or would you stick to the 4000? I am just looking for your insight and congratulations on the VS (jealous :D)!
Thank you! I actually busted my saltx 4000, that’s why I upgraded to the VSX 200. If you can, just go with the van staal VR 150-200 it’s about the same price as the saltx 6000 🤙🏼🙌🏼
Just a tip, I would stay away from the VR's. Your better off with a SaltX or the X series. 6000 sized Saltx is more suited for those 10-11 foot rods. I think it's best if you mention what and where you are fishing and what you want your price range to be. The VR's have just been too inconsistent in term of durability and reliability and the 4000 saltx is better suited for rods 7-9 ft.
@@GetReelBassFishing how did you bust the salt x?
can you do a comparison video of your vanstaal VSX vs the previously used salt x 4000?
I could try...I busted the saltx 4000 so it’s pretty much non functioning lol. But I can try
i could probably get used to a bail less, but if i can ill just get a bailed version. but im not gonna spend like 700 dollars on a reel any time soon so i wont worry about that.
That beach was not there to day . So I had a salt x 6000 and it exploded in my hand and bought the 200 vsx in black bailess awesome reel Good luck with the reel
Jason Colón it exploded in your hand ? What does that even mean reels dont explode 🤣
chuck dumas it fell into pieces while reeling a cocktail blue
Oh dang 😳😳😳 the last week or two, I’ve heard of 5 saltx reels busting 😳😳
I fish the surf everyday from april to november here on cape cod ! I have a salt x 4 k that ive been using this year ive caught hundreds of fish on it some near 30 pounds ! The only issue with the reel is the knob is wearing down ! Id like to see pics of the reel that came apart!
chuck dumas don’t have reel anymore it was replaced under warranty. Where you flip bail over started rusting when you started cranking in fish it sounded like a bunch of mice ( squeaking) . I also have a 4000 that I use for my kayak. No problem with that reel . The reel is not made to be dunked under water . Sand from the surf gets in there . I was anal about cleaning everything after fishing just not good enough
Hey I’m new to surf fishing and was wandering what do you think would be a good rod to match with the spinfisher 6 5500. I am wanting to do a mix of using lures and also using certain rigs with sinkers and shit. I’d think my preferred target species would be stripes are blues.
My budget isn’t like massive I’m 14 so I am not allowed to have a real job yet. So like it can’t really break the bank😂
Honestly for one that won’t break the bank, either a Penn Prevail 9ft MH or a 10 ft MH 🤙🏼🤙🏼 I’ve got it linked in the description of this video 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Get Reel Bass Fishing alright thanks man. Means a lot Bc I’m a first gen fishermen here trying to be a cool grandpa or something like that someday😂
@@lenny23_74 tsunami trophy II bro
How many yards of line u put on it
I see you are quite new to bail-less reels. As of now you seem to be putting it on with the hand you reel on but just a couple things to remember, your basically catching the line with your index finger right at the end of your cast, Also the handle should be pointing down to expose the spool and just better accessibility from the line to your finger. You'll love the reel when you get used to it but it just takes practice.
Yeah man, thanks for the advice. Been putting in a lot of hours using it, it almost feels natural using it now. Thank you!!
Gotta get the power knob brother
Seems like West End 2 is your spot. Ever consider getting the 4x4 permit?
I’ve considered it, don’t wanna take my truck on the beach though. It’ll rust right up lol
Where did you buy that reel ?
Looking to pick up a VS in the next few weeks. What made you pick the 200 over the 250?
Sheer size of the reel. The 200 will do the trick for what I’m doing, 250 is just extra weight that I don’t wanna be throwing around for hours on end.
Did you feel as the 200 had better balance for the rod you are using? From what I researched the 250 is only slightly heavier and the bigger spool allows for longer casting distance. I guess I’ll have to bring my 10ft lami in and see which one feels better. I appreciate the input! Enjoy the new reel!!
Yeah. I have the saltx 10’6 MH and it’s suppppeeerrr thin. Awkwardly thin actually, so I didn’t want a huge and heavier Reel. Good luck bro 🤙🏼
which beach are you at?
so how does the VS compare to the Tsunami SaltX ?
100x better in feel, durability, sealing, drag, and build.
Was that shinnecock with the sand in front of the rocks?
Moriches
Did the paint flake off yet? 🤔
What rod you using?
He said in video.
Before cast, make sure the spool all the way up...i think you knew it by now
Why don’t you use tactical angler clips ?
Not a fan of them. They’ve bent out and I’ve lost a couple lures on casts
@@GetReelBassFishing You've had TA clips bend during a cast sending plugs to freedom?? I ask because I cannot fathom a scenario where that could possibly happen.
Get Reel Bass Fishing what size ta clips have you used ???
Watch Surfcasters journal showing how to cast bailess reels. Your holding the rod and reel too far forward. When casting hold your hand at the reel stem. When your lure hits the water put your fore finger out and the line will hit your finger where you catch it. Turn the handle and the roller will catch the line and your on. Easy peasy. Don’t catch the line with your left hand and put it on the roller.
cool. Thanks so much for these tips Richard. I’ll try that out. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Get Reel Bass Fishing I’ve used bailess for so long I have a hard time remembering when I use a bailed reel. Still catch the line with my finger before I remember to close the bail. Lol.
😂😂
I heard the Moriches inlet had a partial collapse anyone else hear that
I haven’t heard anything about it
I went from old Van Staal to ZeeBass to new series Van Staal and never looked back. Enjoy.
Awesome. I will probably never look back either 😂 it just feels like soooo much of a better build
Nice rig, is that Democratic point?
Thank you 🤙🏼 Moriches
Don't waste money on flouro... your lures have giant hooks dangling off them..don't need to worry about line visibility
Truth truth. I feel like it is ties easier though 😬
Not just about visibility my boy
You went from a salt x reel to a van staal? Why is that?
Busted the saltx within 3 months of use.
@@GetReelBassFishing lol Well, I have VR 150 and it is death in less than a year.
The VRs have been like that...that why we just got Erica a VSX instead of the VR
@@GetReelBassFishing best choice
Handle down spool out. Bill wetzel. Check out the vid
All that money for a reel and not a single fish caught that day
Pretty sure I would never buy this reel, 739.00 and lots of index finger work. At my age, just not worth it. But it looks really sexy. Enjoy.
Haha all good Dave, I never thought I would get one either to be honest. But it just seemed like the way to go right now. I hope it works well 😂
Guys laugh at me when I tell them how much I paid for my VSX 250 until I see them messing with their reels or I hear them swearing their head off because their bail slammed shut and snapped off yet another $20. plug...AGAIN! 😆That's when they get to hear ME laughing, as I send another cast out without a care in the world. You get what you pay for in this world. Nothing more, nothing less. 😉
Amen to that. This was probably my best purchase for the type of fishing I do. Good luck this season!
@@GetReelBassFishing and I am not uncertain your grandson or granddaughter will agree 40 years from now when it fishes every bit as nicely as it did the day you bought it. No joke, you're seeing more Van Staals at Montauk these days, than any other reel besides Penn.
I can’t stand the van staal, but kudos to those of you who like it
Was out there today this morning caught 10 bass @juice.lee fish 🧠
