- Paul Pierce was one of the greatest Celtics of all time, and one of the best players in recent history. In his prime, he got overshadowed by more popular players, but he was just as good (if not better) as some of them. In this video, I talk about Paul Pierce's NBA career and try to evaluate how good he was during his prime.
I make all kinds of NBA videos which include trivia, analysis, player stories, countdowns, conspiracies, and mysteries. Make sure to leave a like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

When you have a bad-ass nickname like "The Truth" then you gotta back it up, and Pierce certainly did
And The Truth fits him so well
Shaq gave him that too. Shaq doesn’t give nicknames like that too just anybody
@@TheEuropeanLad nice one LeBron and are still levirgin
Paul Pierce is severely underrated
Lord Clarke facts. He literally played with players Kobe would have never let on his team.
So underrated dude was straight buckets from anywhere
Say that again. SEVERELY. This man had to defend so many great sg/sf during his era and people think the celtics won by a fluke? They got to the finals TWICE
Agreed
Meh
In 2005 Pierce lead the Celts in scoring, rebounds and assists which is not mentioned in this video.
Somewhat depressing though, based on how bad the roster was.
Pierce was AWESOME in the mid-2000s. I think that gets forgotten since his teams sucked then. For the first decade of his career Antoine Walker was by far his best teammate...
I didn't know that
Paul Pierce is one of the most complete age underrated NBA legends ever. Dude could hit jumpers, 3's, lay ups, INSANE dunks, alleys, was a great passer and defender.
When Shaq calls someone as The Truth, you can only imagine how good is this player.
His 2008 Finals performance is my favourite performance by any player. Not because of his stats, it was the heart and desire he showed on every play he made. After he won Finals MVP that year I gained a whole lot more respect for the Truth he really is one of the greatest Celtics of all time
considering the near same scoring and clearly better defense...he was gifted the FMVP. KG was clearly the FMVP and team MVP.
Daiton I'm sorry but if you're talking about heart, I'd take Willis Reed over any other player in the NBA. He played in game 7 of the NBA finals with a f*cking ACL. That's right, with an ACL.
Daiton That’s a great way to put it
Hibiki121 I'm guessing you mean with a torn ACL but that's crazy I never knew about that... Before my time I guess
Daiton
He has one of the most memorable shots to me. That clutch 3 pointer in lebrons face. "IM COLD BLOODED"
Linda Thompson now he isn't
One of the most underrated players for sure.
tits mcgee maybe because of how he runs his mouth 😂
Marvin Hendríx lafláre What nigga?
tits mcgee what ain't what I said nigga
tits mcgee
"Over"
Most underrated player of his generation
His nickname fit well
Nope, Sheriff Abdul Rahim is. Pierce was at least recognized.
@@younglove3362bcuz he was muslim
@@poindextertunes I said Sheriff Abdur Rahim, not Abdul Rauf
@@poindextertunesfacts The league blackballed him He was under appreciated in today's League he would be perfect power forward
A lot of people dont mention it but 04-08 he was one of the best perimeter defenders in the league
Urameshi DaGoon
His defense is VERY underrated
Arikawanda I didn't say anything about stats , all im saying is that people love to overrate and underrate players by their defense and Pierce would probably be ranked higher in a lot of people's lists if they recognized his defensive abilities .
Urameshi DaGoon if he actually dragged his teams to the playoffs he wouldn't be underrated
mick romney I actually think hes overrated
Arikawanda Saying that people dont mention his defensive abilities in his prime year(s) does reflect that it is overlooked ......
"I called game"
Favorite player of all time, watched him every game, very under rated. Perfectly put, he was not flashy, but effective. When he went off, he went off and was very difficult to guard. If he would’ve had some players by his side in his younger days, he’d be a multiple ring holder. Ask Shaq why he gave Pierce the nick name, the Truth.
I'll say this... the reason PRIME Paul Pierce (from 2001 to 2006) was very overlooked in the early to mid 2000s was because his contemporaries were much more flashier players and had play styles that were much more appealing to fans... when I state his contemporaries I'm referring to Kobe, McGrady, Iverson, and Carter...
now have you ever wondered what the biggest difference is between those players and Pierce? You guessed it right... these guys were MUCH MORE athletic and had MUCH MORE endorsements and popularity... I remember during that time in the early to mid 2000s every dude wanted to be like Kobe, McGrady, Iverson, and Carter because those guys had the dunks and the speed, had sexiest sneakers and commercials and were also featured in hip hop videos
I can't remember to many dudes back then that wanted to be like Pierce... because Pierce had a old school style and flavor to him that wasn't really appealing to younger cats back then... he wasn't a high flyer like Carter, he wasn't as quick as a cat like Iverson, he wasn't as athletic as Kobe or McGrady... Pierce was a slow paced wing player that had deceptive quickness and speed and was very strong and was great at creating contact and drawing fouls... he was a very good outside shooter as well
But I'll also say this... in terms of player primacy and peak value, I'm only taking Kobe and MAYBE McGrady over PRIME Pierce... Iverson and Carter are overrated and SEVERELY LACKED productivity considering their high amounts of minutes and usage that they had during their prime years... Pierce was truly underrated...
Oh and I think it's kind of interesting that some of you guys are comparing Carmelo and Pierce... that's funny because I could understand the comparison... these guys had very similar playing styles... maybe you guys could let me know the comments on what are some their differences in their games because I can't really identify them
please kindly provide any comments you may have... some of you guys may understand where I'm coming from
Church Service wow finally , i became a pierce fan in 01-02 back then i was starting to watch basketball and im surprised that my friends didnt know him they only knew the kobe's and tmac's , i always liked his game and fire with confidence , nobody can guard him even he's slow, and i always argue that he's way better than carter , paul proved it when he stayed relavant up to his mid 30s, lets not forget that if pierce was just a lil bit younger when they were battling lebron and heat, im sure they will knock them off,
And for the melo comparison, i think its because they both look out of shape , but melo's shot selection is crazy , pierce is always under control and will get to his spot for the shot and he's always aware of the momment , truth was also an underrated playmaker something that we dont talk about much, as for melo combination of bad selection and unwillingness to pass gave him a bad rep , ill still take prime pierce any day
You know what? I hated Paul Pierce back then, it was so boring to see him play, but i think he is way better than McGrady. I don't remember anything about McGrady besides some flashy moves or the 13 points - 35 secs against the Spurs and that's it, but i do remember all the points in those Celtics - Lakers, no way to forget that. I don't agree that Iverson is overrated at all, but Carter was overrated.
Paul pierce is certainly better than all those guys you mentioned, except kobe
Church Service I would say Melo was a bit quicker with the ball and his shots. Definitely not as good on defense as pierce, I’d give pierce the overall effectiveness when it comes to all aspects such as rebounding, assists, morale, etc. They were both clutch, I’d give a slight scoring edge to Melo not by much.
The dude was massively underrated (I’m not a celtics fan) one of the best SF’s of all time... his first step was sick and footwork amazing...
Paul Pierce was a better player than Vince
Carter is one of the most overrated player of all time. The only thing he can do and make him famous was his dunk!
@@marcialbaguejr5667 he could shoot the three decently well wtf bro
David Baruch yeah but he’s overrated at the same time he was obviously a superstar or semi star player in his prime but he has no rings, mvps, finals mvps, scoring titles. At the same time he was a 8x all star,2x all nba, dunk contest winner,ROY.Which Paul pierce has more accolades than him except dunk contest and they both have no mvps while pierce got a ring and finals mvp.
Vince Carters numbers in the early 00s are all better than Pierces though
@@dave-th6yuyes carter could shoot but when it came to clutch time that pierce step back was a killer. Something vince couldn't do. Was be clutch
Idk where all this “not the best athlete “ stuff is coming from Paul was dunking on anybody, blocking you and out hustling you. He was very athletic.
Well compared to Kobe and T-Mac and VC, he does not look as athletic, but he can always meet someone at the rim and win the duel in his prime. PP always played an old man's game.
I think he is overlooked as a player, I loved him
How good was Paul pierce? A hall of famer. Think that’s pretty good
Let’s just remember that I carried Celtics in the 08 playoffs to win the championship.
Brian Scalabrine hell naw nigga
Brian Scalabrine lol
Ray Allen why did you go golfing instead on being at his jersey retirement 😂
Who are ya again? 🤔
Brian Scalabrine don’t you have an Al Horford you should be swaddling???
One of the most underrated small forwards in the history of the NBA
I wonder if he played for a different team his whole career, would he be perceived differently, assuming his resume stayed the same.
Would he be looked at different due to him not having to live up to the standards of Celtics greats? Or did playing for Boston give him a legitimate fame boost?
any player who plays for a big market team is going to be more famous and remembered for a longer period of time. you think people would still remember charles oakley if he didn't play for the knicks?
James Burgess imagine if he played for the spurs his whole career or something how different his legacy could be
James Burgess I agree.. both but defiantly more judged and criticized. The dirk thing would’ve been an amazing offensive combo, but in reality what I’ve always said is him and kg shoulda teamed up several years sooner, and I honest to god think they’d have at least 2 if not 3 rings
its his game...and he's not all muscled up not fat..but kinda looks a lil heavy..smooth ass game like the guy said tho it didn't look like it but u gaurd him and u will feel it..i stole a few of his moves when i used to ball,,1 of my all time favorites
James Burgess
Man I loved Paul Pierce. Such a great player he deserves all the praises he gets
Also don't forget his numbers dipped because of the players that came to the Celtics... His career averages could definitely be higher
King of the Step Back
Dirk and The Truth. That’s like having the splash bothers play sf and pf
Drafted Back 2 back
dallas wouldve won more titles
Most underrated superstar in his time, because he's not flashy like vince but he has proven that hes better than him, and media labelled melo as a superstar and national media wont give him the spotlight, pierce is a player who had a low ceiling when he got to the nba but he exceeded all expectations
One of my favorite players. that step back jumper was a killer.
The Celtics with Allen Garnett and Pierce are my favorite big 3
Lol I love how ppl look back on Vince, his exciting play really overhypes him retrospectively .
VC= 2 All-NBA, 8 allstar
vs
Pierce = 4 all-NBA, 10 all-star, One Ring w/ finals mvp
Jacob Pierce nobody ranks VC over pierce nor do anyone say he’s top 50 lol
Just like Paul Pierce is also overrated?
@@TheGrindcorps how?
@@TheGrindcorps how is pierce overrated? If anything he’s underrated by how new NBA fans tweet him. The man won a championship and a finals MVP goes up against Kobe Bryant in his prime. That alone should speak volumes. But with that he has 10 all star selections... and yet ppl act like he was just another pretty good player
Paul Pierce will be forever be my favorite player ✊🏾.. Growing up I always knew he wasn’t the most flashy but I always respected him and he always came through for my C’s. Long live the legend! ☘️
He‘s a hall of famer in my book.
Antonio Wilson not really arguable tbh
Ethan Shaw if you say so
And water is wet in my book........
first ballot I should think
akeem Brown Are you saying that Pierce isn’t a hall of gamer or are you saying that water is wet because is isn’t
In NBA overall yes he is underrated. But for the Celtics, he is our Truth. 💪
Paul Pierce is in the 25 all time players. Also top 5 clutchest player in NBA history. The amount of clutch shots and game winners this man hit are next level.
paul is my favorite player... THE TRUTH!!!
Great video, he was very underrated for sure but I enjoyed the video and the work you put into it.
thank you Andy, you are the best, happy new year!!!
One of my favorite Players of all time! Not the best athlete, but he was smart as hell!
AMAZING FOOTWORK!
Paul pierce has to be one of the most underrated players ever
I remember when Pierce was on the cover for the xbox game Inside Drive. I loved that game.
Good shit man keep up the great vids
Great. Video keep it going favorite CZcamsr
Best channel in youtube
I love you man
He was not only a freaking good player ! He had balls the size of a circus tent man... superhero kinda balls
Great job Andy!
One of the best. Simply complete player.
My favorite highlight of Paul Pierce is when he randomly decided to take a nap for no reason while defending Joe Johnson lol
Gin-Nius.

I liked when he called game
finals mvp is the best award you can get
Paul Pierce is a beast, the best part was when he stayed till 2010
Pierce was always clutch throughout his whole carrer
do how good was dennis rodman or isaiah thomas (pistons)
Petite Explication Isaiah Thomas is the one in the Lakers rn Isiah Thomas is the legend
Aaron Martin wtf is wrong with you
Short answer. Very good
Isiah*
Isiah Lord Thomas
was a member of the Bad Boy Pistons With the two championships as well and with the infamous Bill Laimbeer.
Isaiah Thomas
was a former Celtic Player who was a 5'6 Guard I think and got traded to Cleveland for Kyrie and then traded to L.A
The 🐐 with more 🔥💯
Andy is the goat
Liked it before watching the video
One of the greatest clutch players of all time!!!! Easily a top 5 Celtic
makis papachristou
Bill Russell, Larry bird, Kevin Mchale, Robert parish, jojo white, hondo, Cousy, cowens. Not a top 5 Celtic.
Tony Zan L
Tony Zan jojo white over Pierce?!?!? Gtfo of here
The_Tru_ G0AT I gave 9 possible guys as to why he is not top 5. You counter by questioning 1 guy?
Pierce was a superstar when he needed to be. Case in point was the 2008 NBA Finals where he outplayed Kobe Bryant and won Finals MVP. Underrated for sure.
He was better than people give him credit for.
He is the goat according to game of zones
That simple crossover was killer

My favorite player of all time
Notification squad aye ✌🏻
As a Knicks fan I hated when he played the Knicks. But as a basketball fanatic I absolutely love his game and respect his game
The thing that I remember most about paul piece is the word... CLUTCH
Really don’t know why they ain’t letting Paul pierce or C Web in the hall of fame since they letting damn near everybody in nowadays
He was a beast could score on any where on the court and was an underrated defender imo an all time legend and my favorite player ever
Harden learned from the truth!!
I hope this will get LIKES that it deserves. Can you please do Joe Johnson with this series! Very underrated CLUTCH player.
wow dirk n pierce....that woulda been sheer amazement 4 me. as a pierce fan this video was pretty accurate. i think what alot of other people fail 2 realize is that lebron n pierce were kinda similar as far as beginnings. when u pretty much are carrying a team on your back ( in one the the leagues best years i might add), its hard 2 maintain a curtain level of excellence all the time n come outta the fire still great. pierce did that n was fortunate enough to reach the promise-land . its like i always say having 5-8 rings is incredible . however, sometimes you fight your whole life taking the long hard road just to get that ONE
The most underrated by a long shot. Look at who all he took out in playoff runs. The truth!! Always be my favorite player.
Big fan of PP34, my big idol, a lot of respect for him. Yeah, not the fastest guy, but could make it through everyone. The fact that LeBron said that Pierce was the hardest player to play against says it all.
Pierce used to eat on nba live 2004
Rayshawn word
God Live 08 Richard Jefferson
This is not biased as I'm from MA but Pierce is the most underrated player from the 2000's era, when the Celtics traded Walker the front office didn't think they needed another anchor to help him out so for a few seasons it was Pierce carrying the workload and you could tell how frustrated he was with the handling of such moves. The year before KG and Allen were brought onto the team this man was killing it before he got hurt for the season.
Pierce is SO underrated.
I watched every single game every year that he carried the Celtics single-handedly through the 2000s with an up/down Antione Walker to the playoffs every single year.
Paul Pierce was the method man, best footwork of any small forward.
Underrated, especially by today's younger fans who didn't watch him in his prime. Like you said, 10x all-star speaks for itself. He's a guaranteed HOF'er
5:38: I remember seeing that shot live. I was in disbelief that he actually made it, you might've said the game winner the game before was luck, but he hit that one too, falling away into the stands. The Truth
You must have not seen him play. He was MVP candidate in some seasons. He was never eclipsed by anyone and Shaq dubbed him “the truth”.
He would score 25 points out of something like 15 shots, his true shooting was of the charts.
His defense was terrific, he managed to lock down prime Kobe in the 2008 finals while putting good offensive highly efficient numbers.
He was full of strength and difficult to stop when attacking the rim. His jumper was great. A nightmare to guard, and that’s why he excelled in playoffs.
And beyond all that he was clutch. Won a championship and a finals MVP.
Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, another two franchise players, accepted to join him in Boston.
It’s unthinkable the Celtics got him with the 10th pick or so. Nowitzki also went around there in the same draft.
As a Celtics fan he is one of my favorites
One of the most gifted scorers in NBA history. He has a full bag of tricks on his sleeve. He can score in a variety of ways. Paul Pierce is definitely the best Celtic player since Larry Bird. #ThankYouPaul
Pierce is one of my favorites. The Truth will never die.
I remember PP as a super clutch scorer during his playing days as he made many winning & clutch shots instead of take & miss a lot like Kobe. The most clutch (FG% taken enough shots) is Bird then comes Jordan & PP who were v close. I recalled someone analyzed some clutch stats incl FG% & he is top 5-8, while Kobe took a lot of clutch shots but has low FG%. If there's a ranking for effective scoring, PP is def. top ranked as he not not only draws fouls but his FG% incl 3FG% are quite high.
You should do a video about Jason Kidd
That 2012 series with the heat is as good as basketball gets. As a die hard Celtic fan every game after game 3 felt like game 7
Pierce was great. I'd say he's the 9th or 10th best small forward ever. Among guys drafted in the 90s, you could make the case that only Duncan, Kobe, Shaq, Garnett, & Dirk clearly had better careers. He's definitely in the 6-12 group somewhere with Iverson, Kidd, Nash, T-Mac, Payton, Ry, Hill, Vince, Mourning, & Webber.
favorite memory of Paul was the wheelchair game in the finals finals lmao
That title though. Didn't know False Swipe Gaming made NBA videos
It's wild having to contextualize that Paul was a great 3-pt shooter, but the game is SO different now. Like, he would be a *bad* shooter for some of these teams, now - but also there's probably 3 guys in the league who could even slow him down from the elbow on in? This game changing too fast!!!
The Truth!!!!🙌🏾
I got Pierce as fourth best Boston Celtic of all time and in my book is in the top 50 players of all time. No doubt about it. If he finished his career as a Celtic. He would have been the all time leading point scorer. That saying something considering the great players that came out of that Boston Celtics franchise.
In 2007-08 season, Paul Pierce''the truth'' is no average over 25 ppg, and he was the finals MVP and NBA champion and got some legitimate help for the first time in years with Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett at his side
Pierce didn't have much athleticism but on the court he has the biggest heart..............
Y'all remember the season when he got stabbed 11 times but came out of hospital after three days and then played all 82 games without injury.......
he's an inspiration......
@AndyHoops you should do Amir Johnson
Dirk and pierce together in their primes? Man that would fun asf to watch! But great video only thing I don't agree with is you saying me lo is better than Paul on offense, I don't think melo is in that same tier with levron, wade, and Kobe scoring wise
6:04 LOL your use of the word suspect
U want Tha Truth u can't handle Tha Truth C's Nation Stand up The Best of the Best
The Truth! 💯
