  • Paul Pierce was one of the greatest Celtics of all time, and one of the best players in recent history. In his prime, he got overshadowed by more popular players, but he was just as good (if not better) as some of them. In this video, I talk about Paul Pierce's NBA career and try to evaluate how good he was during his prime.
    I make all kinds of NBA videos which include trivia, analysis, player stories, countdowns, conspiracies, and mysteries. Make sure to leave a like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

    Favorite player of all time, watched him every game, very under rated. Perfectly put, he was not flashy, but effective. When he went off, he went off and was very difficult to guard. If he would’ve had some players by his side in his younger days, he’d be a multiple ring holder. Ask Shaq why he gave Pierce the nick name, the Truth.

  • @churchservice2700
    @churchservice2700 Před 6 lety +101

    I'll say this... the reason PRIME Paul Pierce (from 2001 to 2006) was very overlooked in the early to mid 2000s was because his contemporaries were much more flashier players and had play styles that were much more appealing to fans... when I state his contemporaries I'm referring to Kobe, McGrady, Iverson, and Carter...
    now have you ever wondered what the biggest difference is between those players and Pierce? You guessed it right... these guys were MUCH MORE athletic and had MUCH MORE endorsements and popularity... I remember during that time in the early to mid 2000s every dude wanted to be like Kobe, McGrady, Iverson, and Carter because those guys had the dunks and the speed, had sexiest sneakers and commercials and were also featured in hip hop videos
    I can't remember to many dudes back then that wanted to be like Pierce... because Pierce had a old school style and flavor to him that wasn't really appealing to younger cats back then... he wasn't a high flyer like Carter, he wasn't as quick as a cat like Iverson, he wasn't as athletic as Kobe or McGrady... Pierce was a slow paced wing player that had deceptive quickness and speed and was very strong and was great at creating contact and drawing fouls... he was a very good outside shooter as well
    But I'll also say this... in terms of player primacy and peak value, I'm only taking Kobe and MAYBE McGrady over PRIME Pierce... Iverson and Carter are overrated and SEVERELY LACKED productivity considering their high amounts of minutes and usage that they had during their prime years... Pierce was truly underrated...
    Oh and I think it's kind of interesting that some of you guys are comparing Carmelo and Pierce... that's funny because I could understand the comparison... these guys had very similar playing styles... maybe you guys could let me know the comments on what are some their differences in their games because I can't really identify them
    please kindly provide any comments you may have... some of you guys may understand where I'm coming from

      Church Service wow finally , i became a pierce fan in 01-02 back then i was starting to watch basketball and im surprised that my friends didnt know him they only knew the kobe's and tmac's , i always liked his game and fire with confidence , nobody can guard him even he's slow, and i always argue that he's way better than carter , paul proved it when he stayed relavant up to his mid 30s, lets not forget that if pierce was just a lil bit younger when they were battling lebron and heat, im sure they will knock them off,

      @theclassicmanila-style8435 Před 5 lety +13

      And for the melo comparison, i think its because they both look out of shape , but melo's shot selection is crazy , pierce is always under control and will get to his spot for the shot and he's always aware of the momment , truth was also an underrated playmaker something that we dont talk about much, as for melo combination of bad selection and unwillingness to pass gave him a bad rep , ill still take prime pierce any day

      You know what? I hated Paul Pierce back then, it was so boring to see him play, but i think he is way better than McGrady. I don't remember anything about McGrady besides some flashy moves or the 13 points - 35 secs against the Spurs and that's it, but i do remember all the points in those Celtics - Lakers, no way to forget that. I don't agree that Iverson is overrated at all, but Carter was overrated.

    Pierce was a superstar when he needed to be. Case in point was the 2008 NBA Finals where he outplayed Kobe Bryant and won Finals MVP. Underrated for sure.

    wow dirk n pierce....that woulda been sheer amazement 4 me. as a pierce fan this video was pretty accurate. i think what alot of other people fail 2 realize is that lebron n pierce were kinda similar as far as beginnings. when u pretty much are carrying a team on your back ( in one the the leagues best years i might add), its hard 2 maintain a curtain level of excellence all the time n come outta the fire still great. pierce did that n was fortunate enough to reach the promise-land . its like i always say having 5-8 rings is incredible . however, sometimes you fight your whole life taking the long hard road just to get that ONE

    This is not biased as I'm from MA but Pierce is the most underrated player from the 2000's era, when the Celtics traded Walker the front office didn't think they needed another anchor to help him out so for a few seasons it was Pierce carrying the workload and you could tell how frustrated he was with the handling of such moves. The year before KG and Allen were brought onto the team this man was killing it before he got hurt for the season.

  • @rambojohnj.6117
    @rambojohnj.6117 Před 4 lety

    Pierce is SO underrated.
    I watched every single game every year that he carried the Celtics single-handedly through the 2000s with an up/down Antione Walker to the playoffs every single year.

  • @TheGreatLoco
    @TheGreatLoco Před 3 lety

    You must have not seen him play. He was MVP candidate in some seasons. He was never eclipsed by anyone and Shaq dubbed him “the truth”.
    He would score 25 points out of something like 15 shots, his true shooting was of the charts.
    His defense was terrific, he managed to lock down prime Kobe in the 2008 finals while putting good offensive highly efficient numbers.
    He was full of strength and difficult to stop when attacking the rim. His jumper was great. A nightmare to guard, and that’s why he excelled in playoffs.
    And beyond all that he was clutch. Won a championship and a finals MVP.
    Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, another two franchise players, accepted to join him in Boston.
    It’s unthinkable the Celtics got him with the 10th pick or so. Nowitzki also went around there in the same draft.

    I remember PP as a super clutch scorer during his playing days as he made many winning & clutch shots instead of take & miss a lot like Kobe. The most clutch (FG% taken enough shots) is Bird then comes Jordan & PP who were v close. I recalled someone analyzed some clutch stats incl FG% & he is top 5-8, while Kobe took a lot of clutch shots but has low FG%. If there's a ranking for effective scoring, PP is def. top ranked as he not not only draws fouls but his FG% incl 3FG% are quite high.

    Pierce was great. I'd say he's the 9th or 10th best small forward ever. Among guys drafted in the 90s, you could make the case that only Duncan, Kobe, Shaq, Garnett, & Dirk clearly had better careers. He's definitely in the 6-12 group somewhere with Iverson, Kidd, Nash, T-Mac, Payton, Ry, Hill, Vince, Mourning, & Webber.

    It's wild having to contextualize that Paul was a great 3-pt shooter, but the game is SO different now. Like, he would be a *bad* shooter for some of these teams, now - but also there's probably 3 guys in the league who could even slow him down from the elbow on in? This game changing too fast!!!

    I got Pierce as fourth best Boston Celtic of all time and in my book is in the top 50 players of all time. No doubt about it. If he finished his career as a Celtic. He would have been the all time leading point scorer. That saying something considering the great players that came out of that Boston Celtics franchise.
