This set has lived rent free in my head for 25 years
in may too :)
Best mix ever!
this ruled a lot of my life,...
Try June 2024...just awesome 😊😊😊
1999 , no Whatsapp no Facebook , no Tinder , no Instagram .. happier people and experienced more dancing
Well, icq was more of a thing for me...
Social media now occupies the time people used to go dancing and meeting in public environs. Social apps are less social but highly commercial.
And people can't put their phones down at a concert to just BE THERE and feel the music.
@phill unrau - It's the Greater Toronto Area. The driver goes from one city to another, then to another, then to another. At 36:40, you can see the CN Tower and then again at 1:36:05.
These are my most hated comments on youtube. As said by someone middle aged with kids who hasn't gone out in a decade.
Im just in tears listening to this Set. Realizing my life is half way though (if im lucky). Been to so many raves and parties. Met so many people. The fun, the highs and even the lows. Life was just so amazing. So fresh, so much to discover. Yet here I am now, stuck in my home.. unbale to enjoy good parties because im just done. Not even this virus but just the entire mindset of people. Lost many friends and family. The music doesnt give me these feelings anymore. My mind is blank. Memories starting to fade away. It hurts to get up. It hurts to go to sleep. What the fuck happend to me, to society. Where did it all go wrong? Its like there is nothing but rage and anger. Maybe it just me. But I would love to see social media go away and make people
Go out again. Experience life as its suppose to be. In stead of living through your phones. Sorry for this rant. Im just having a mental breakdown.. thats what this music does. It takes me back to better times. Such good times. Yall kids better live your life. Its gonna be over before you know it. Bless anyone who understands my feelings.
I don't know you but I am sending you love in these strange times. the human spirit has not been completely killed yet, as bleak as things may seem right now i know things will look up. take care of yourself and all the best.
@@RelightwithKat thanks. That means a lot to me..
And that, right there, is why I am here. I have nothing but respect for you. Wishing you all the best. You should feel honoured to hear this from Thornhill’s very own.
I’m with you. ‘99 was an amazing year for me. The older we become the more numbed we are. To lose connection with emotion. Compressed within an existence of just existing. This kind of music takes you elsewhere. I wish you well and truly hope that you find a way through.
U need 2 get your shit together....if you cannot see the beauty, how can you make it for others?

From back in the day! When trance was trance, house was house and vinyl was everything. I know it’s a human tendency to enshrine the past as we all march to our inevitable deaths, but damn this WAS an epoch time to be on the dance floors and overall it’s an exciting time to be alive.
So glad to say I WAS THERE!!!!#

Paul oakenfold - legend.
This set for me has always been the absolute best I've ever heard. I remember running across this back in 00' and it has been in my playlist ever since.
Paul is a Great DJ. Legend .
Crazy to think I listened to this mix from my home in England back when it was recorded and aired on BBC Radio 1 shortly after I turned 19...and now I'm watching it 20 years later accompanied by a video of driving round where I now call home in Toronto...
Same sentimental feeling inside me,same class
great listening, peace u.k
Cheers from TO! Best Oakenfold mix he ever did. Feeling nostalgia, looking for oakenfold tracks (Eisbaer) and came across this gem!
Keep on dancing my friends!
No way, I live in Toronto too! I remember listening to this mix many times when I was a little kid back in 2002-03 or something like that. I was introduced to trance at a very young age, and this particular mix has stuck with me for all these years!
Synchronist you are
Keep coming back to this...an absolute audible treasure for all time!
Paul mixed on that day as if our and all other lives depended on it,
Still goosebumps and beautiful memories on this one

Came up in my feed, (I'm in my mid-40's) its now 2021, this is still the high water mark for Oakenfold, one of the best. You get older, priorities in life change, but this never (ever!) gets old.
I'm right about the same age and I'm right on track with ya!
yeah man...a little bit younger but you are 100% accurate...this also randomly popped up in my feed and I have such a sense of nostalgia...I remember hearing this for the first time and my mind was blown...

God!!!! Bullet In The Gun one of the best track of the history! And Paul one of the best for ever.
Yesssss!
This mix has been sequenced into my DNA and my soul
Same here.. it lives in my blood
Love u both cuz I remember candy flipping with some really good MDMA Amsterdam shamrocks and some of the best ketamine I've ever had in my life blasting this out in August of 1999 at a rave called Era in Pittsburgh
How many Djs nowadays would have the balls to play the same song twice in the same set. Oakenfold was the man
+
you so right . any dj play the same track. paul epic
I actually do play the same track in the same set every once in a blue moon…specifically because of Oakenfold. Different versions/mixes of the same track, but yeah…what balls this legend has to do it first /best
Now they all quickmix. Even Tiesto at EDC averaged just 90 seconds per track! Everyone has ADHD and can’t just enjoy the moment so they cater just to the crowd. Sad.
...and what a song..Masterpiece!
I first heard this set back in 99/2000 and it changed everything. I had never even heard of Ibiza. It sounded like this mystical island in the middle of the Mediterranean ppl like me in the States could only dream of going too. Well that dream for me finally came true 15 yrs later when I visited in 2016. It was everything I thought it would be & then some. Eating dinner at Cafe Mambo watching the sunset on the Northern part of the island. Seeing Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike at Amnesia. Getting to visit Space like a month or so before it closed down. Seeing Hardwell at Ushuaia. The beaches. The scenery. I need to go back. Fyi, the essential mix in Havana, Cuba might be better than this mix.
The ultimate high and Oakey at his best and he will confirm was cream at the nation in Liverpool was his favourite place and Liverpool always pump out the best music thats why he became the resident dj and he and all of us missed the best club ever
Still have the burned CD's of this mix in a old book full of similar EM gems, but this one is truly special.! Top Oaky for sure. One the the best driving, raving, life mix of all times!
I have originals haha
This is true Oaky style. The man is a genius... I think I have all of his EMs on a CD in my car still :D
@@TheWhoppie same all in my car listening everyday. Oakey is the best
I love how much soul was in this trance music, these DJs know how to lay it down, respect 2024.
Good trance music is like an out of body experience. It's like you lose your surroundings and get transported to another place where the music just takes over everything.
described perfectly,for real🙏👍
i'm 30, born in 1991. when all this music was popping, i was like 6. my uncles were big ravers in university at the time, when they used to come home trance and this kind of music was played in their cars and in their bedrooms. although i was 6, this set is very nostalgic for me, it reminds me of an endless childhood summer. i've been to a lot of raves and parties but not one with music like this, i hope there's a massive trance reunion or gig and we can allg go and enjoy the vibes!
Tauba Sabah. You shouldn't be going to raves 😂

This is Oakenfold at his very best, when he could weave his way through heavenly melodies, dirty breaks and big room anthems seamlessly. I close my eyes and listen to the first twenty minutes of this and I can feel the warm Ibizan breeze, see the dark starry skies and I feel like I'm 18 again - no worries, no cares, no problems. What a time to be alive it was.
What is so special about Ibiza and where does Ibiza exist? Is it an island? Sorry for my ignorance. I remember that the prodigy made a song called Ibiza and it was pretty cool

In what universe is the under-appreciated?! This is collectively known as one of the greatest sets of all time. EVERYONE was listening to this constantly in the late 90s and early 2000s.
I can't believe I've never heard this Oakenfold set. I love New York, Tranceport and Creamfileds, but I didn't know this one.
this mix was one of his hidden master pieces, i Remember finding this back in the napster music days.
I don't usually like trance, but this mix is a true masterpiece. I remember downloading it from napster almost 20 years ago, and since then I listen to it along with the 2001 essential mix by Richie Hawtin. Sorry for my low level of English.
Great set and equally good written English!
IT'S GREAT ENGLISH
I agree totally. I’ve always felt this is Oakenfold’s greatest recorded set and there are so many to choose from. Musically and harmonically it’s just on a whole different level. It’s masterful and I think of it more as a composition than a set. I truly wish I’d been there to experience it live.
I found it in the same place. This is my favorite edm set of all time.
I used to play this set in 1999 in my car on MP3. The car audio was EXPENSIVE just to be able to play MP3
Mine could not. I had to record two audio cds
We used a Panasonic shockwave MP3 walkman wired into the car's tape deck through one of those cassette to headphone jack thingies lol
@@svargr7982 I used to do the same to listen to a Tiesto set from Amsterdam
This is the first electronic set I listened from start to finish. I was in college in 2004 and a friend gave those cds. I couldn't believe how amazing it was that each song followed the other like the other piece of a puzzle, the other turn of the same.
Until then I could not understand why people bonded so much on music settings like raves.
20 years after... I now know
This is the way!
I saw this live on 3 hits of acid. So lucky to have experienced that.
I am so jealous. I guess you had the best trip of your life.
I was born in 94, so this is definitely before my generation. However, even though most electronic music I listen to sounds different, and is from later on, I instantly recognized that this is a classic. The quality and composition of this mix is just amazing, and should be appreciated by any electronic music fan
dig into the classic trance then, and enjoy the ride :-) maybe starting with the artists and record labels featured in this mix. also check out the Global Underground mixes from back then, Oakey, Sasha and loads more. So much really good music there. Have fun!
The set is absolutely timeless, we have 2023 it could also come from this year.

If it was possible to turn back the clock, I would. 1999 my life started, and with this music!
Damn Peak Oaky right here, absolute master class in track selection, each one perfectly flowing into the next, filled with ups and lows, classics strewn throughout. Perfect mix. Miss this era of DJing man, the late 90s really did have it going on.
Touche Bro!!!!
That first tune is mint. Late 90s raving was amazing! Close your eyes and reach for the lasers.
SPACE was my favorite club in Ibiza because you went there at 8am and there was this huge platform that they moved out on to the dancefloor that had one of them big thick gym mats on top and people were just lying all over it coming on from the party sweeties ;) You were indoor until about 12noon, then you went outdoors to this open area where they continued the party so essentially you could club almost 24/7 .
You would start out at about 7pm to get to Cafe Del Mar or Mambo which was a little hard to find the first time you go. There you watch the sun set which is awesome to see, then when it turns dark all these people appear juggling fire and hoops of fire, it's insane. I loved Cafe Del Mar because the toilet was all mirrors, the floor , roof, walls. So by 8-9pm you are in the west end clubs like Play 2 where they had a lazer show and other small clubs/pubs that if you bought 4 beers you would get a free 70cl of vodka, peach snaps etc so you just bought 8 beers and got 2 70cl bottles for next to nothing then later you would head to places like Es Paradise , Pacha etc which were like £40 door fee and £8 a pint of beer, insane yes? Anyway you would be there until about 6am then head to the Starbar and everyone suddenly jumps in all these taxis that arrive 10mins before Space opens and that's when you head there. I think the outdoor part was open until about 4pm then you move on to a beach party lol
What year were you experiencing this? I arrived late to Ibiza and I've not seen Space during the day, just club nights.
@@stevenross-watt8640 the end of the 90s that’s a shame they don’t do that anymore as i thought that was the greatest thing ever , being able to go to a club like that through the day

The mid to late 1990s marked a significant era in the evolution of trance music, with artists like Paul Oakenfold at the forefront of this genre. There are several compelling arguments that support the notion that this period represents the golden age of trance music. Firstly, during this time, trance music experienced a surge in popularity and creativity, with artists experimenting with new sounds and techniques to push the boundaries of electronic music. Paul Oakenfold, often referred to as the "Godfather of Trance," played a pivotal role in shaping the genre and bringing it to a wider audience through his innovative productions and DJ sets.Additionally, the mid to late 1990s saw the emergence of iconic trance anthems that have stood the test of time and continue to be celebrated today. First set I ever listened to. Trance is king.
This never gets old it stands the test of time like the pyramids..i remember always choosing this one to rollerblade my baby boy in his stroller next to the ocean and I felt like I was going to lift off and fly🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊
He is still doing some mixes now and he was ahead of time and TV and movies are still using his old stuff now, I was a big follower and got to know him and I never missed a night at cream when he was resident and his music was a story for the intelligent, no one at present would understand that only us and you will still listen in another 20 /30 years as I can only listen to Oakey
