    Wow my first Gwhisky mention! If anyone here would like a signed photograph, my DMs are open. :)
    In all seriousness, this is a fantastic list. I think I've tried just about everything on it, and they are all great (especially the Ancnoc). I've yet to try the Glen Garioch, and will need to look out for it - perhaps on the next excursion to Backyard Jr. @Gwhisky! 🙂

    Aside from the always solid Balblair, there are certainly more distilleries that could be included, but they all suffer from poor availability(Ben Nevis), poor or limited distillery bottlings(Ardmore, Blair Athol) or high prices(Glenturret).

    Interesting picks. I'm surprised Glenturret or Deanston did not make it into the list. My list would be, in no particular order: Deanston 12, Ardna AD, Glenturret 7 peat (or 12, but I'd rather diversify the profiles in the list), Clynelish 14, Glencadam 15, Glendronach 15, Edradour 10 Signatory (technically an IB, but consistently available)
    with honorable mentions to IB Ben Nevis and limited releases of Ballechin and Loch Lomond.

    Eastern highlands of Scotland have a lot of shrubs, particularly HEATHER, purple, gold, pink, red and white. Like Aberfeldy-16, Deanston virgin oak (of Central Highlands) ... GG has milder aroma of this light perfumy" heather : THIS is what gets peeps when doing head-to-head blind tastings... OLDER than 30y, GG has a more "cake-y" (darker but also more floral) aroma of heather (aka "rancio" type). - - Glad to hear u r ok.

    Edradour/Ballechin is one of the most slept on distilleries in Scotland. Their distillate is heavy and dirty and their cask experimentation, with both brands, is fantastic. Tons of available cask strength juice as well.

    Those are great 7 from the Highland Geoff. I have had all except the anCnoc 18 which just arrived at my door recently. Glenfarclas 15 would be a great addition to the list for the price it was at not that long ago. Deanston Virgin Oak is different though. As for the cologne in Deanston goes, you can always splash it before heading out on Friday night. All great whiskies from the Highland.

    Some real belters in that list. I am a big fan of the Glen Garioch 12, but it’s all subjective. I have the Cadenheads Glen Garioch 11 which is very different but really good. Glencadam is one of my favourite distilleries. The 13yo Reawakening was wonderful stuff. Keep up the reviews, always interesting and entertaining 👍

    Interesting list and my only contribution is that I have wondered about Highland as an area it’s like all of Scotland that isn’t in a more sensible defined area. That said a whisky area called “ the rest” wouldn’t have much romance. West highland is where my favourites generally reside. Thank you for the content 👍👍

  • @whiskyguidedog6558
    @whiskyguidedog6558 Před 2 měsíci +1

    Fun list. I would place either Deanston 12, 15 yo organic, or 18 yo at second place on the list; the AD in first place. Glengarioch 12 third place. Clynelish is too batchy as you say. Oban 14 is too light, and Isle of Harris has already surpassed it. I agree with the Glencadam 10 pick over the 15. I was thinking of an Edradour bottling for the list for sure but haven't tasted that one in a while now (bottle waiting in the stash). I'll give AnCnoc 18 another go sometime (have the 24 open at present). Thanks for the croud sourse research and did touch wood for you when I heard about the earthquake (no confessions mate).

    Glenmorangie Signet. Is that cheating? Maybe. It's certainly not representative of Highland whisky or even Glenmorangie but it is fantastic. Edradour Caledonia is in a similar situation in my opinion.

    Well we know it’s not your list Geoff - no Dalmore! I would have had an Old Pulteney before any Oban, and I have a soft spot for Ben Nevis, but more IB’s than the OB. IMO opinion Dalmore is one of the most overrated brands in all of Scotch, let alone Highlands. They certainly think highly of themselves given their pricing, but it’s overly sherried, one note and almost always under 46%. Aside from the Cigar Malt, it’s meh

    Out of those 7 I've only tried the Ardnamurchan AD and Glencadam 10. These two are also the best value for money in my market. Some of those picks are quite pricey here.
