Thank you for the upload, Nashwan was a good horse that often gets overlooked. I know horses get campaigned in different ways but he did win the 4 top races over a mile to a mile & a half of his 3yo season.

Willie Carson has openly admitted that he gave Nashwan too much ground to make up on Opening Verse(subsequent Breeders Cup Mile winner) in the Eclipse and has said the horse was never the same again. In hindsight connections should of bypassed the King George( a la Sea The Stars) and looked at an Autumn campaign geared around the ARC or even go for the St Leger and attempt the Triple Crown. This year the gap between the Eclipse and King George was only 2 weeks(invariably 3 weeks) so no surprise that Nashwan was only just able to beat Cacoethes who he'd beaten out of sight in the Derby. I still rate him very highly though and that fact no horse in the 27 years since has annexed the 2000 Guineas/Derby/Eclipse/King George is testament to this.

Also saw an interview where Willie openly admits that NASHWAN didn't stay the mile and a half. But he'll always have achieved FAR more than some other wonder horses. My favourite horse of all time. Pat Eddery told Willie that his horse was making gurgling noises when he went past him. So he was obviously bleeding inside.

Although Nashwan was significantly below his best here, he was trying to concede 7 pounds to both the winner and runner up who incidentally between them went on to win the Japan Cup, Arlington Million and Canadian International. Of interest is that since 1990 every entrant has carried the same weight irrespective of whether or not they've won a Group 1 race.

Nashwan was the star horse of 1989 winning the 2,000 Guineas, Epsom Derby, Eclipse Stakes and Ascot's King George. Ran below par here in this video.

Nashwan clearly not the horse he once was, quite sad to see a champion and his career beaten by horses who wouldn't have stood a chance with him in,his prime.
