I love doing things like this in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Thousands of miles of gravel roads, two tracks, forgotten logging roads etc. I’ve found some amazing spots. Magic places. Some I share, some I keep to myself. I wish I had more time to do it

Great video as ever; Sir I would suggest replacing your 110v/220v mains fan with a 12v variant. The inverters built into powerpacks are inherently inefficient by the very nature of their design. So essentially the inefficiency draws far more amps than is actually required, thereby draining the battery quicker than it has to be and shortening its overall lifespan. 👍🏽

Ford Rangers are probably the biggest trucks we have in the UK and they are big. All of my American friends laugh at how tiny they are 😂

I will never forget going into the Big Sur Ventana wilderness on the Ca coast in a rain storm. The Bigsur River was a torrent of violent waves in front of my camp with the big redwoods 50 foot up the mountain on the other side. I here snap I want to run but don't know what direction. A 2 foot diameter redwood crashed 50 feet in front of my camp from way up on the ledge. splintered and broke into pieces and 20 foot log piece sped away in an instant in the swollen river.

Thanks for all the effort you put in! Your overland videos with you spouse have convinced me and the family in buying a 4WD and going overlanding ourselves. I like to camp out very minimalistic and do some bushcraft with my tarp. But the misses does need a certain comfort level. These videos showed us that a combination of both is possible!

Love your backpacking adventures, but really like videos like this one where you do camping with the tarp, even in the rain. Used to do that stuff with the Girl Scouts. Takes me back. Gotta try some cowboy coffee!

After rewatching this for the third time, I actually stayed at that first campsite you stopped at back in October. The mattress and bedding is still there actually.
One thing about the mountains of North Carolina. There are some gravel roads that go on for miles and miles and miles. A group of us went mountain biking years ago and traveled down a fire road for approximately 40 miles. Locals told us if we followed their directions we’d come across a faint trail marker at a bridge about 40 miles in. They said it would be the best mountain biking we’d ever been on. Yeah, we should have never listened to them. We found the trail after traveling down that road for over an hour. We had come across a clearing out in the middle of nowhere and suddenly found ourselves driving beside an old house with a tobacco field beside it. There were a handful of men working the field with large sickles. Stuff you see in movies. Well, when they heard our truck they all turned around and just stared at us as we drove by. Not the first one waved at us either. We rode the trail, and got lost in the process because it eventually just ended out in the middle of nowhere. We had been riding for three hours in the woods and everyone had drank all of their Gatorade and ate all of their snacks. We found our way out to the fire road right at dark only because we heard a faint dog barking off in the distance. We had to backtrack in the dark back up the fire road for another 2 hours before we got back to the truck. There was an old beat up truck parked behind us but no one was around. It took us a few minutes to get everything loaded up and by the time we got into the truck we could hear voices coming from off in the distance. The guy driving threw it in drive and punched it. We were sideways coming out of there. We passed the old house again on our way out and there was no lights or people around that we could see in our headlights. To this day I told myself I’d never go back down any fire roads in the mountains of NC.

Fun video, I love “camp time”
I love dispersed camping! We have a state forest in western maryland that has 100 sites that some are miles from the next one. All you get is a fire ring and a picnic table. I Jeep camp with my dogs spring and fall. While watching your video I was also making dinner and stepped over to my small galley kitchen when the whippoorwill's started in the video and my border collie was under the table and jerked up and looked around like 'What the heck? Are we in the woods again?" Our last trip they were extremely loud every dusk and I think it spooked him a little. LOL! For now we tent camp but eventually when I can get a dog sitter for my Dalmatian the BC and I will do some backpacking with a hammock set up so I can gear up to hike the AT someday. It was supposed to be next spring but on hold due to the current situation. Maybe in two years. Camp and Hike on! Cheers to you and your family! Thanks for the vids!

Speaking of copperheads, Monday night my brother stepped on a copperhead that was on his porch.
Bare foot at the time. He was bit 2 times on his left foot and once on the right foot. Hospital for 8 hrs and now home doing ok except for swelling and pain. Never know where you will encounter a snake.
Speaking of humid....lolol. I worked a summer in Nashville four years ago. The first day my partner and I were wondering what we had gotten into! I will take 105-110 here in Arizona over 85-90 in Tennessee. We stayed wet all summer. The rivets in my tool belt rusted out! It was quite an experience. Great people, beautiful scenery.......just beware that humidity.
Thanks for the videos! Love all the tips and advice on equipment! I’m considering the camp stove you are using as an option. Being a female I really enjoy it when Suzie comes along with you, to get a female perspective also. A couple of quick questions If you can give a little input... Have you ever chosen a campsite and had to reconsider because of unwanted guests made you feel uncomfortable? Or, after setting up your site and unwanted unruly neighbors arrive to a neighboring campsite? Have you abandoned the place you chose and moved on to another location in the middle of the night because of noisy neighbors in a nearby site? I usually camp alone and like to be safe, but I like you, want some solitude and safety at the same time. I have been concerned more as I’ve camped for years, but things are changing. We used to leave our coolers out at the picnic table and all our stuff in the tent, now you seem to have to keep things locked up and only pull things out when you are using them? sure is a strange year , i did my vacation in Norway this year , took a plane up north bought and drove the car back home , much the same style you live now , but i did rent some small cabins along the way was a great trip :)

G'day mate,from Australia , I've watched your videos for a couple of years now and you and Susie put on a great show. However ! your eating regime is atrocious . You have to get some proper tucker into your selves. Your truck camping is perfect to do that and this episode shows you had all the right gear to have a proper feed ! Frying pan - steak,chops,sausages.
Boil up some potatoes and put butter all over them or wrap them in foil and sit them in the embers, check with a sharp stick , cut a cross on the top and dollop on the sour cream !!!
I've done a lot of camping in 75 years and I'm salivating now and looking foreward to the next

I use a fan along with dry ice to cool my tent during the summer. Works well!
Hey, Luke, good to see you out and about. Growing up, the outdoors was my entertainment too. It is the perfect environment for kids and imaginations, swings, treehouses, forts to build, swimming, wading, critters to bring home, important skills to grow up with, using rope, knives, hatches, saws. We learned how to climb trees, cliffs, ridges and long mountain grades. We built dams and bridges across the creeks. We walked, ran and biked everywhere. Exercise programs at school were a joke because we were “naturally” stronger than the city kids. We excelled in scouting because we were used to the outdoors. When time came for me to join the Army Infantry it was like play time. I was back in the woods, heh, heh... I’m an old man, now. I still get out there in the fall and winter, (summer’s a bit warm, 103 degrees, no rain) here in Texas. I enjoy seeing you in my Appalachians. That’s where I grew up. Thanks. Texas
I didn't realize it when I was a kid/child; now that I'm an old man I realize "playing in dirt" probably contributed to MEeee having a strong immune system. Gotta wonder how we kids survived lead pencils, lead in gas & paint + asbestos insulation. From Reno, Nevada

Thanks for bringing back some memories. Always had a cap on the back of my truck, although it wasn't the cool looking thing to have said it looked awkward but wasn't anywhere I couldn't stop to camp. Especially when they started to make the spots to put boards on side of bed, sleep on top storage underneath, 8' bed stop it short of tailgate room for cooler and refreshments. Love your channel and you & Suzie! I think your rain numbers are off a bit, though. The far southwestern mountains are the rainiest in N.C. and most of the Southeaster U.S. and many of them average around 84”. Mt. Mitchell is the rainiest place in our neck of the woods (I live almost directly underneath Mitchell) at around 75”. I have two places in McDowell and they average 54” - much like Banner Elk, Boone, etc.
We download and watch your videos whilst traveling, usually in the high mountains, several times per week. I’ve thrown up some 360 degree videos from around the Black and Craggy mountains over the last few weeks.
We did have a record setting year in 2018 that smashed records. Marion had 104” and Mount Mitchell had 140”! My place above the South Toe only received 90” 😂
The Joyce Kilmer Forest Area in the Southwest Mountains of NC is basically a rain forest.

Salisbury NC here! Been to pisqah national forest quite a few times.
One thing I learned in camping when attaching stuff like that netting lots or rare earth quarter size magnets or bar type. Make sure to keep the spacers. Lol oh I use them to hang stuff in a tent just put a can top on the outside.
The call of the whippoorwill always unnerves me, just a little. They remind me of H.P. Lovecraft stories like Cthulhu Mythos.

I bought a small battery operated chainsaw from Cabelas 15 years ago, it is ok for what you want to use it for, but not for getting firewood for your home. Be sure to bring a spare battery.
They have a small oil reservoir so you are constantly filling it. It said you would get 150 cuts on four to six inch wide trees, I was lucky to get fifty. Buy Lithium battery saw.
Found this road a few weeks ago. Saw a really big cat near the gated community by the Parkway. I saw some really nice swimming holes. Was a fun drive! Those 1 lane bridges were a bit wonky though!!!
