    I'm loving the philosophical content. Keep it up. One of my biggest regrets is that I never taught myself how to enjoy leisurely reading. I'm going to give this book a shot. Thanks!

      Buy Ender's game and start on page one. If you don't like it then close it and pick something else that sounds interesting. Repeat until you have read a book because you enjoyed it, not thinking you had to.

    "If you want something done you break it down into smaller parts" I've been saying that to my friends and family for years! It's a weird feeling when you see your ideas expressed by other people. You kind of go around wishing for it to happen. Because if it is a good idea, then why has no one else already thought about it?
    Thank you for this video, Duncan

    Essential video. I remember watching this back in the day. Big respect for Thorin on this and also for not rushing out a PR statement once he broke the streak. IIRC, he ‘came out’ a little later with some vid or gossip on BTN about why the habit broke down. Also good to change things up and share the knowledge downstream, even when the changes are ostensibly downgrades for your paycheck or your audience-base.

    Thank you Thorin! I've always had you as my favourite csgo analyst because i know you're authentic. That means, you show your thoughs withour fearing being wrong as I presented few times. I've always been aware of my procrastination, haven't related it to my fears though. And more importantly, i never expected to hear this from you. It's 5:20AM here in brazil now, and i'm charting my wishes, making plans and steps. Tomorrow is another day and it's never too late to start. I know this can sound silly, but you might have just changed a 21 years old man's life. Thanks !

    I do something similar to starting early. I start early as well, but the big thing I do is called "pomodoro". I break work into 20 minutes of work with 5 minute breaks. Just 20 minutes, then 5 minutes to do whatever. Then right back to it. Over. And over. And over. I've got so much done since starting it and as a software developer writing code all day, it makes huge features with thousands of lines of code really simple and tacklable.

    Definitely really good content, mate.
    I am in the middle of changing the direction of my career and have been committed for the last couple weeks to learn as much as I need to have a decent foundation. While I did part of it right, I first found out what it is that I need to know and sort of built the structure around it, I didn't really break it down to little pieces which has had the effect on me and some days simply seem overwhelming and I end up being unproductive.
    I had recommended this book to my girlfriend (without having read it myself) since she's more on the artistic side and it had a notable effect on her too. I still haven't found my way to reading it because there are so many great books that I want to read.
    Cheers, keep pushing it.

    When I first started, I just wrote about how imperative it was for Blizzard to make Overwatch a success going forward. I wanted to get into esports so I kept writing because it was the best way to build a network and meet people from different orgs. You need to find something you are passionate about, keep going with it and never look back. That's how I met Thorin at Gfinity and other people in the industry at other events etc. If you focus on something and you are consistent and disciplined, things begin to fall into place.

    Don't start a cult because I just might join. Even though most of this can always be simplified to "just do it", I think it is good to actually look at the things you do and see why you do them. I love The War of Art and for me the most comforting and helpful thing is to tell myself to do just a little bit. I don't have to finish this whole essay but I will get the introduction done. After having done that it feels good to do some bonus stuff. So set your goals low and you'll trick yourself to do them and even more.

    • @prawtism

      @Bynming Před 7 lety

      I suppose, but if I have to limit how much I can put into it, that does put a dent in the notion of "practice every day". If I get busted after 2 days playing, what do I do then? Put in another $500? If I continue to suck and I can't afford to learn then it becomes gambling and I'm no better than the poor sob pulling on the slot machine handle while crying.
