    As always, you did a great job! These are very interesting, even when it's hard to find information about the person. I hope that you do one of these for Mary Magdalene. I know that she's not technically an apostle, but she was important enough for Jesus to reveal Himself to first after He had risen from the dead, so I think she's worthy. Looking forward to the next video!! 🙏✝️❤

    1 hr 14 minutes! LOL I have had same thoughts about some of the 12, The Sons of Thunder, foot in mouth Peter...maybe they were part of the inner circle because Jesus had to keep a closer eye on these boys till they were filled with The Holy Spirit. Maybe the lesser known of the 12 just had pure hearts followed and believed(kind of how The Chosen portrayed Little James and Thaddeus in The Sermon on the Mount scene)...just a thought. David...mix lemon juice and honey and swallow a couple of tablespoons every hour...very southing🙌

    I know of a family here in Norway where two biological brothers were both called Nils. This was close to 100 years ago, but I know it's true, because my grandfather knew the family in question. The reason they both had the same name was that their father was called Nils, and the oldest son was supposed to inherit both the farm and the name. But the first born son, Nils, got very ill when he was little, and the doctor said he would not make it. He had said the boy might live for some weeks or months, or even perhaps a couple of years, but he would not grow up to be an adult. So when the parents after some time had another son, they decided he would have to be called Nils as well, as the older brother was bound to die. So they had to keep the Nils name in the family, and the younger boy would have to take over the farm when he grew up. However - the first born son did not die. Nor did the younger brother. They both grew up and lived to be adults and eventually old men. And so they were Big Nils and Little Nils. 😉

    Apparently, I read somewhere that Clopas and Alphaeus are derivatives of the same name, and Clopas is said to be Joseph's brother so James might've been Jesus' cousin.

    Mark 2: 13 calls Matthew Levi son of Alphæus. They call them by what is important to remember. Matthew (Levi) is a tax collector, and that's more important than that he is James's brother. Judas (Thaddeus) is also the brother of James.

    Allergies seem to be affecting everyone I talk to, lately, all across the place. Even those who've never been bothered, seem to be complaining lately, lol. But, I have a question for you: In 1 Corinthians 9:5, Paul speaks as though many of the apostles were married and brought their wives along on their travels. What can you speak to on this? (Also, in 1 Corinthians 1:14, he mentions having baptized a man named Gaius. I wonder if this is "our" Gaius from The Chosen, lol.)

    • @NowLetsBeHonest
      @NowLetsBeHonest  Před 2 lety +1

      Ha! Yeah, allergies have been rocking me a bit lately, lol.
      I definitely wouldn't be surprised if some of the apostles got married at some point. We know Peter was married within the Gospel narratives, and I suppose it's possible that some of the others too, but I'd be surprised if a rabbi would call a bunch of married guys to leave their families to follow him for 3 and a half years. I know that once persecution broke out throughout the church, the apostles would have likely been a little more precautious when it comes to getting married (just because of the necessary danger of their job), but we do have some traditions from the early church suggesting that some of them (i.e. Philip) were married and had kids.
      I've heard people speculating about the Gaius thing. Personally, from a cinematic perspective I think it would make the world feel a bit smaller if they did happen to be one and the same, so I'd prefer if they weren't, but it's definitely possible. And given the trajectory the show seems to be taking the character, it seems to me that they might be preparing him for a come-to-Jesus moment long before Paul is part of the picture. But I guess we will have to see :)

    Maybe it says “Mary’s sister Mary” because it’s Mary’s sister in law. Like early Christian writings say. Papias writes of these 4 Mary’s. Clopus is Joseph’s brother.

    There are several crucial flaws to this presentation:
    1. Clopas/Cleophas and Alphaeus are all the same name, translated differently because the Koine Greek in which the Gospels were written didn't have a proper translation for the glottalized Jewish name. Every legitimate Biblical scholar will acknowledge this.
    2. "Adelphoi" - the term used to describe the "brothers" of our Lord - is not strictly used to mean "sibling" in the Gospel. You even admit to this yourself by claiming that Mary of Clopas and the Virgin Mary aren't really sisters (despite explicitly being referred to as "adelphe" in Scripture). You must apply the same level of scrutiny to each piece of text, especially given that they're in the same Gospel of Matthew.
    Mary of Clopas is obviously the mother of James the Less (son of Clopas/Alphaeus), the "brother" of Jesus. It's hardly even up for debate.
    Keep studing, brother. I have faith in you.

  • @CPATuttle
    @CPATuttle Před rokem

    As you quoted Hippolytus, Heggesipius and Josephus. They all match a stoning death. And Eusebius you quoted affirms this. And he says there’s only two James. Son of Zebedee and the brother of Jesus. And they both die in Jerusalem. Eusebius was a historian. He probably would have told a story of a third James and apostle.
    Also Mark 6:3 the biggest piece of evidence of Jesus having brothers. Most don’t include Jesus response. Mark 6:4 and he says they are ‘household and kin’ and ‘relatives’ in other translations. Which leads to believe he probably wouldn’t call his half brothers relatives
    Further Galatians 1:19 does say there’s a James that’s the brother of the lord AND apostle.

    I don't believe Jesus was speaking of his mother when he told John to take her into his home. Jesus knew that James(who was the elder and taking care of her) would be killed soon. Jesus's mother had her other sons who were taking care of her when he left them to begin his ministry. James, John's brother was the first apostle to be killed therefore, he would be next in line to take care of their mother.

    Jesus did not have any siblings but his Mother Mary has a sister that gave birth to James and joseph. Back then first cousins when sometimes taken care of by an aunt they would call the cousin they are growing up with "brother''. But they are first cousins.

    • @SaintSalu
      @SaintSalu Před rokem

      Both sisters named Mary wasn't an issue because Mary (Mother of Jesus) was left to be raised in a nunnery for whatever reason so the next daughter born later was with the parents and named Mary. Chances are the nunnery named the first daughter Mary.

      James , the son of Alpheus, is also the same person as James, brother of Jesus.
      James, a son of Alpheus, is the son from Sister Blessed Virgin Mary , Mary , a wife of cleophas (John 19:25)
      According to tradition, A writing of Eusebius, cleophas is brother of Saint Joseph.
      It makes that Mary is sister in law of Blessed Virgin.
      Alpheus and Cleopas is the same person.
      Alpheus is Aramaic name and Cleopas is Greek name.
      So James , the son of Alpheus, is cousin of Jesus.

      According to Bible, Holy Tradition, History, Church Fathers Mother Mary, The mother of God's incarnate, is Ever-Virgin.
      Mary only bear of Jesus Christ.
      She is chosen by God Father to bear of His Son , no one else.
      There are 2 overview:
      1. Joseph is widower and had 6 children before married with Mother Mary But it is not taken by scripture. Only writing of church fathers.
      The first sources was taken by Protoevangelium of James. It is fake.
      2. Not only Mary but Joseph is also Ever - Virgin. Mary took a vow of virginity. So Joseph can't touch Virgin Mary, Mother of God's incarnate.
      So brothers of Jesus in scripture are cousin of Jesus.
      James the son of Alpheus, Jude Thaddeus, Simon Zealot and Joseph are cousin of Jesus
