- Kargil is remote, and far removed from the popular tourist destination of Leh (Many people know kargil beacuse of India-Pakistan war of 1999)
Elsewhere, many people confuse Kargil to be in Kashmir valley, but it is crucially not. And unlike in Kashmir where Sunni Muslims are predominant, the faith of the majority of Kargil’s people is Shia Islam.
For the people here, the first month of the Islamic new year - Muharram - is a period of intense mourning for Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad. He was killed along with 82 of his companions in the Battle of Karbala (in modern-day Iraq) on October 10, 680 CE.
Both men and women take part in the rituals commemorating the event during Muharram. Processions, called juloos or dasta , are taken out on several days. The largest of these happens on Ashura - the tenth day of Muharram - when Hussain and his entourage were massacred in Karbala. Some men practice the ritual of self-flagellation ( qama zani ) with chains and blades, and everyone beats their chests ( seena zani )

Thank you very much for showing Muharram in kargil actually its my ancestral land then after partition my grand parents move to Pakistan and now we are resiiding in north of Pakistan, my grand parents were from kullu. We are same people speak same language and share same beliefs we are also shia, my wife is from gilgit baltistan region of Pakistan a shia dominant area of Pakistan. My grand father did forced migration to Pakistan but he could never forget his real home kullu I still remember even on his death bed he was recaling his childhood and remembering kullu and tears were rolling down his cheek now I wish I could come India and visit kullu for him as he could never made it to his home a place where he grew up. Love to people of Kargil. ❤

@sahil5rana we are basically people of cino tibetien origin we weren't paharhis we just used to live there as over generations we migrated more inland India and we used to speak language much closer to balti language which is spoken in Gilgit baltistan region of Pakistan, we are basically ladakhi in origin.

And as a shiya we give our deepest condolences to the grandson of prophet Muhammad who is Hussain ibne Ali that's why we go Iraq and Iran. another reason to go Iraq and Iran is to complete the religious studies who are studying Molvi and all as you said it the shiya majority countries.
