  • Join us on this week's episode of El Heffe's Chopshop as Jackson and I start the journey to resurrection on this 1977 XC GXL Ford Fairmont. This almost GT has been in hiding for over 12 years in a shipping container! What secrets does it hold? Buckle your desk chairs as we begin our quest to get this relic running and try to drive it back to its owner. Will we make it? Falcon oath, we'll give it a go!

You're motivating me to finish mine, great video! Four wheel disc brakes, power steering, LSD, bonnet scoops, black out treatment, GT style fuel cap, glovebox reading lamp, sports dash and corduroy trim are all standard for the GXL model. Some things such as column shift transmission, vinyl or houndstooth trim etc etc wasn't available for that model. A base model GXL actually came with a 4.1 litre six too, but there aren't too many around, cheers.

To quiten noisey P/S pumps, add a desert spoon amount or two of Moreys red lable oil stabiliser, jack up the front so wheels are off ground, with engine idling turn lock to lock a dozen times to get it through the system, you can thank this old mechanic later

Recommend that you get rid of that aftermarket alarm. Likely spliced/butchered into important factory wiring circuits: ignition and starter. Probably 40 year old box of electronics, with a corroded circuit board, and bits falling off it. Surprised the alarm did not give you any grief while you were getting the 302 going.

Ok .. The inner glovebox compartment can be removed..and if you did so you may find an assembly line build sheet taped down.
With inner shell removed look in .. and down to see if its there..its about 7 inches by 3 . It will have various options marked with x .. potentially special instructions .. like fit radius arm rod .. Enjoy.

Had to do a double take when i say the thumb nail and then, check the garage!
We got one exactly the same minus the vynal roof. Mum has owned it since new! Its only ever done the school run and local shops so has only 220k on the clock!
But now you know why it on GAS! Dad used to work with impco and had thr holly's fitted and lgp from 1978 cos it forever stall at the lights fart and carry on so much mum was making dad take it back to the dealer and get her old rx4 she traded!
Now you know the reason mums got relegated to the school run and local shops! Cos dad couldn't stand the thing could never get it run on petrol, always gas it went to every specialist and car wiz out there!
I can say the furthest out car has ever travelled id Gundagai where the the fuel pump chat itself and pumped all the fuel into the sump! It returned on a trailer!! 🤣 do you know what dad wanted to do with it!! Same as BURN it!
He even used his 1974 volvo 145 wagen to tow his 24ft savage boat over the ford!! 😂😂😂
Only time he get in it was when it fart and carry on even on gas so late at night he take out on the highway and boot shit out of it so the secondaries would open and clean the carbon out then druve it back in the garage and yell to mum fn cars fixed!
In the 1990s he had some car wiz dude come into his work spruking how good he was with dynos and what nots!! To which my dad said oh really ive got one for you!! Will not run or drive correctly on petrol no matter what you do il!!! Even Ford threw their hands up and has only run on LPG since 1978! 😂😂 the guy accepted it as an easy challenge!! Dad laughed and said il give you two weeks and i bet you fail, better still keep it as long you want! Bet you two weeks after that not paying ya! 😂
Needless to say he did get a call close the two week mark walked in the shop and guy said there ya Fn car get it out of my sight! 😂😂 dad said told ya, and the guy went yeah its actually running on petrol now! Dad was stocked but huy said he never wanted to see it wver again worst car he ever worked on!!!
Funny how we still have it though... family airloom suppose! 😜 pepper red black interior exactly the same just no vynal roof!!!
And like your boses, ours not for sale either! You might have a shot at owning it once in brothers hands, after mum and me are gone!! 😂
Sorry for long post! Just seeing it and you cursing brought back so many memories of my dad!
