@@JayJay-nc7pr I was wondering when I was going to see someone bring up Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Veronica could have totally been leading lady if that movie had had a sequel. :)
WONDERFUL as Jack's oblivious mother on Will & Grace, we know where he got it from - the oblivion & the butt squeezing. Your children will be retiring on that Hitch sketch, do Sotheby's know?
She seems so charming, so unlike most child stars, just like, "oh I did that, it was fun, don't make too much of it, I still cook steaks they way he told me."
The Birds was my mom's favorite movie. I finally watched it again after not really being impressed with it when I was younger, and I have to say my mom was not wrong. Great movie!
never mind the shower scene from Psycho - Veronica's death in Alien was truly horrifying, even though you didn't see it you saw it coming and then you heard it - trauma.
Hitchcock's birthday gift to Veronica was warm and wonderful!!!Veronica is a marvelous and unpretentious actress, and sister of Angela, who was in Make Room For Daddy and Lost in Space.
That's right!! Her body of work is incredible, yet few people even recognize her contributions to television, and film. From the Twilight Zone to The Sound of Music, there she is!!!
Yeah, well I met both Ms. Hedren and Ms. Cartwright in Chicago a few years ago, and while I was, of course, in awe of Tips, I had no idea Veronica had grown up to be such a cool, funny and down to earth lady-- just like she is in this video. She was very nice to me, with no interest in doing anything but meeting and greeting and talking with the fans she seemed almost surprised to learn she had. Ms.Cartwright made a lifelong fan of me. You're a Hole, roadtweeker-- of monumental proportions.
I love “behind the scenes” info. I’ll think about what’s been said here by the actors while watching this movie now. Some things I’ve heard before. The drums and Buddy becoming friends with Ms. Hedren. I remember so well going to this movie as a child with my older sister and her best friend. What we did often on Sunday afternoons .
Fascinating to see and hear all about the making of The Birds, Veronica Cartwright tells a brilliant account and Ms Hedren still looks as stunning as an older lady.
I met Tippi Hedren and Veronica Cartwright last year at a benefit performance of "The Birds" a parody/homage play staged in Chicago. Tippi was the guest of honor and actually played a small role in the play. She signed my program "With fear,Tippi"! Still very beautiful and a gracious lady!
Veronica Cartwright must be an amazing person to interview. She was a child actress to some of the most amazing movies and I think her sister was as well. I would love to someday interview them and get their thoughts and opinions and info on some of these classics now that the main leads have died.
There is a CZcams video of an interview that features Angela and Veronica, and as other people here noted, both are marvelous and very down to earth. As someone with 4 sisters, I was pleasantly surprised to see how well they get along (I hope that wasn't an act) and they have apparently gotten along all their lives. It was kind of interesting how Veronica related that there was no chance for a real sibling rivalry even when they often auditioned for the same role. Both accepted that her sister didn't get "the" role because she was so much better, it was usually as simple as being the older or younger sister. And I agree, Veronica is a very under rated actress, and it truly is amazing the roles she has played. I would love to read a joint sister memoir.
Thank you for sharing this insightful, warm, insightful, actress, Veronika Cartwright with us. Every movie, I have seen her acting in...she is excellent. Inspiring.
Cartwright has always been a fine actress and a welcome sight on the screen. She gave child actors a good name again. She wasn't cute. She was just good.

the birds is still one of the most horrifying films ever made, when i was a little kid seeing that man with his eyes pecked out and the dead woman on the steps of her house pecked to death scared me for years , all those birds that attacked in that dark upstairs bedroom , ooooh the terror
I saw this movie as a kid in the theater when it came out with my little friends. No accompanying adults. Along with "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" Big mistake. Those two movies really shook me up.
Look luv, `Rod Taylor was actually carrying a double down the stairs because Tippi was in hospital suffering from exhaustion`..I`d like to know what really happened...if Hedren was used by the director as a guinea pig and expired during the unexpected `real` bird attack? If she had for any reason not pulled through what do you think they would have said? I doubt Hedren has even been told what actually happened.

Love this movie and think all the actors did a great job. Can never get over the weird layout of that house though. The stairs went backwards toward the front door (didn’t match the exterior), the mother’s bedroom was on the first floor next to the front door, what was that wooden door thing next to the piano. And the outside chimney didn’t match where the fireplace would be. Yet it had a cozy comfortable interior, probably the Brenners were the richest people in town. And they had a dishwasher in 1963 in the middle of nowhere.
Over half a century later, still one of the most terrifying films ever made.
Never forget watching it with my Dad when I was about 10. Awesome!

Excellent point. Completely agree. She's very underrated. Her performance in Inserts (dir. John Byrum) is cruelly overlooked.
