One day, maybe you should make a Lea meter compilation video :) A very unique part of your channel that I enjoy to actually tell the difference in power with these vehicles.
Last words: "My choice is already quite clear...", video cuts, and we will forever be wondering what the choice really was. Reminds me of "The Sopranos" finale last scene, very artistic editing! :-)
This is the best CLE cabriolet review so far, checked lots of questions I had. Can't wait mine 😇
Great review. Thanks Thomas 👍
Really enjoyed this.
Thomas does the absolute best reviews of any kind, especially since Henry Catchpole went to Hagertys, keep up the excellent work!
We really need those tshirts! 😊
I see this 22 minute review posted 13 minutes ago and there is a comment saying "great review thank you!"
You REALLY need a hobby.
I like Thomas's content by default, knowing ALL the time he provides with quality. So, to make you day, I will say "great video, right on point!" even before I watched it. Now that really must blow your matrix away
Thank you, you really answered all my questions I had about this car. Cheers! (perhaps wait for the B10 A5 to see if they will offer a coupe as well?)
Those alloys 😍😍😍😍
As a previous owner of the C238, they should have just made this a proper C-class coupe/convertible. Too many compromises and takes away from the fun this car could have been.
I‘m not too familiar with MB but wording wise I agree. Take the X-Class wording and at T-Modell, coupé or convertible. Back when they introduced the CLK I didn’t get why it was named that was while being a E-Class coupé. Before that you had E-Class coupé with the C123.
@@Staniii2360 The CLK was actually based on the C-class. While looked like the E. Last pure E-class coupe was the c124. No idea why they went away from that.
Great review Thomas~
Few years back, I have watched your review and purchased my 2018 E-Class cabrio edition 1 in China. It is my favourite, love driving it all the time, most elegent car.
Before watch this one, I was wondering whether or not I should trade-in for CLE, but right now I am pretty sure I will not. 🤣
hey Thomas, I just saw you make a cameo appearance in merc benz king and I think you were driving the very car. You are just about to review, fantastic.
Nice company t-shirt 🙂
U should put just the logo on front and then ur catch phrase on the back Thomas ❤
Great review as usual. I had this car in my list. But as a USA petrol head. I went with the M440i
My wife and I keep discussing a Porsche 718. But honestly with the market and our current loyalty/love of our BMW X5 45e that Thomas reviewed. I'd go the same route I think. Honestly, Thomas has the best reviews.
Good review nice looking car would like to see a diesel cab tested for noise levels. When can we get T shirts , love Lea being in the video should have had a t shirst on as well.
My new favorite convertible, does this car have usb ports at the rear
Great. Finally somebody to seat in back and trll us real situation. Is 440i still have more space, or to go for cle?
I like it. It feels like the camera do not give the paintjob a good show, it looks to have some depth. If I have to complain about something, it is the dashboard. I do not like when it looks like they just glued ipad screens to the dashboard :) I prefer the old style look but with digital dashes.
You guys are great - fun with Leah in the video. But one question: do you prefer the "real" wind deflector or the AirCap? :-)
The roof reminded me of the VW EOS
...one of the earliest nice review.....Nothing replaces the real thing...Thomas Blue
How did they mess up the seats?
I love the colour, but is
Herr Gates really going to fiddle with that 'ping pong' net deflector? Ha ha ha.
Great review and love the T-Shirts. 'No Animal seats' please!
I'm surprised we haven't seen the CLE53 Cabrio yet, but this looks great except for the rear light bar.
Plz review the M440i convertible as well. so we can compare between M440i convertible and CLE 450 convertible .Big cheers from Korea 👍
Hallo Thomas, deine Arbeit gefällt mir wirklich gut.
Idea for new t-shirt…….”This T-Shirt is leather free and Vegan Society approved”. I will be soooo pleased when the auto industry stops using leather so I don’t have to listen to Thomas banging on about it over and over again.🎉🎉🎉
MB saved money on the second pipe 💨

An extremely interesting review of a car segment I am also interested in, thank you.
I think it is a lovely looking car from the outside. I think the convertible part of the tech is gorgeous. I still can not live with Mercedes UI/UX decisions. The V6 is perhaps the last chance for ICE fun before we descend into mandatory EV. I am afraid I would not buy it at the price.
if mercedes is known for comfort, how can they screw up the seats, that essential to comfort and unacceptable!
I guess you have set the standard so high now with your videos that include Leah thats its not quite the same when shes not there, i still managed to get through the video though nice one ;)
Guten Abend.
Hope they make it electric in the future. Need more convertibles :)
Thomas, you should buy one of these for your viewers. Draw some names and announce me the winner 😁
8:55 Hmm that wind deflector is such a hassle. Porsche 911 has an automatic one, effortless, since 2012 991.1 model.
911 automatic one is nice for sure! Usually however people drive with max 2 in these vehicles and let it installed
In the 70s and 80s, Mercedes were adored for making some of the most comfortable cars in the world, how they have let BMW and others beat them in that field beggars belief
As a second car and not a daily driver makes sense as a lease only.
I definitely love this car!❤
You should get the E-class with the 3 screen option(although get the 450 or E53 or E63 for the i6 and its reliability.) Outside of that I like the non-cabriolet version CLE 53.... erm, this one: czcams.com/video/3GTW8Cw6TAc/video.html . To be fair, that center screen just irks me; the triple screen in the E class looks so much better.
Oof, those seats! Hopefully this is pre-production...
Mercedes now offers multiple leather trim levels. I suppose they have to justify why the more expensive “manufactur” trim exists by making the base trim bad.
Doesn't deserve the 'E' name
It is not an E-Class, it is the CLE class. It's in the title of the video, also says it on the back of the car.
@@yellowhammer3 he's saying there's no E about the CLE. Price of an E Class yet poor quality interior from a C Class. They could've at least used the E interior.
8:38 You clearly need a bigger wristwatch, how you see that tiny dial is beyond me 😂
Microfiber will absorb sweat so it starts to smell like a gym locker. Leather won't absorb the previous owner's sweat.
It's my favor car reviews... if Thomas review Germans cars with his little german accent. 😀
Sorry, but what's your personal daily car?
It makes no sense that this gets the in-line 6 cyl on a non-range topping model, yet the C63 S gets a 4 cyl.
What is the point of a convertible with 4 seats. Only the front seats are pleasant to drive. That's why the Z4 is king.
Beautiful outside, capacitive BS inside.
It is funny how always the animal-based seats are much more uncomfortable than the vegan ones😄
Nah, I would not state it if it wasnt true. Everything I say in my video I can back up a 100 %. If the animal seat would be more comfortable, I would have said "these seats are very comfortable, but for ethical reasons I would still not take them". The animal seats in this vehicle are truly horrible in comfort and the microfibre seats are way more comfortable and the perforated Sensatec seats in the BMW 4 Series convertible are for example also way better. Modern animal free materials are better also in comfort and performance features if you take a good quality grade. Of course there are also bad animal-free seats or rather used to be, most modern animal-seats are very convincing luckily. If you would have the chance to compare many different seats after each other like I have the possibility to do, you would agree to my conclusion.
👍
The existence of the CLE highlights just how similar the C and E-class are. Seems like Mercedes have a model differentiation problem.
Model differentiation is the least of their problems.. the whole company is in shambles ever since Dieter Zetsche resigned and Ola Kallenius took over.
This is by all accounts the new C class convertible. They just chose to call it CLE to be able to charge more and compensate for the fact that E class convertible has been canceled.
Nah. It’s a middle thing because having two separate lines wasn’t profitable as coupes and cabriolets are unfortunately making way for suvs
Well i suppose the only reason this car exists is to get any meaningful market share in case bmw messes up the 4 series (not totally surprising based on the latest designs). Otherwise, just get yourself a 4 series, which is much cooler
Thomas English translation to standard English: Rat = Red, Lack = Leg, Hat = Head, Salt = Sold, Beich = Beige. Good job as always, Tom. Btw did you say that A5 (i4 engine) is more fun to drive than a new 6 cyl CLE450?
This is pretty much just the new c class coupe
Aaaaaargh capacitive touch buttons on the steering wheel. They don't work with my fingers and palms...
I will never stop hating on this car. As the owner of a current gen e-coupe, this is a disgrace to Mercedes' heritage. The current c-class is bathed in exclusively cheap materials and drives awful. It's more befitting of a $35k car than a $60k one. If the plan was to market the CLE as a merger between the C & E, the CLE should have a much better interior (either bespoke or that of the 214 E class). They just ripped the C-class interior and put it in the CLE. Yes, it looks great from the outside, has the size of the E class, and access to E-class features like the 6cyl. However, it's actually just a long c-class coupe. Instead of fusing the cheap interior of the C-class and size of the E class - they should have fused the quality and luxury of the E class with the sportiness of the C class. Without an S-coupe anymore, the only hope is the rumors that Maybach will do a version of this.
looks like a 4 series
It is a beautiful car, BUT Mercedess is really dropping the overall quality of their cars! Previous generation mercedes E class had much better built quality and materials. This is sad!
I want a video with Leah wearing a wet auto fuel shrt❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
Keep making engine cars like this. Germans should never ever think about competing against Korean brand in the EV market.
Animal leather skin is always better than any other leather. I’m glad Mercedes is using it on their cars.
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment.
You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at czcams.com/video/S1aNZeoatmE/video.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable.
A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: czcams.com/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/video.html
And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: czcams.com/video/6vXePQi_MAk/video.html

In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse? Remember that animal skin leather is no different to fur, fur is just leather where the hair is still on. And fur is widely not accepted for clothing anymore, and of course not for cars.

Buy a Mazda mx-5 manual if you are on the market for a convertible, most fun and not that expensive.
Ventilated seats have a special top layer which makes them less comfortable.
Yesss... Make vegan interiors, please! #mercedesbenz
Front is decent, side is nice, interior is nice but the rear is ugly.
Can’t believe how bad quality these new Mercedeses are. Thomas you need to get BMW.
Now that's another ugly tail end by Mercedes-Benz. They need to skip that horisontal light bar. Disgusting!
@@MaticTheProto In my opinion the only cars with good looking tail end light bar are Porsche and Audi (Q8).
Made to them that choose electrics ... oups ...
$80K for this? no, just no.
You must be on a mission to capture Obama, you're Trump's secret agent, hahahahaha...
I never understood the connection between lether and luxury. In the summer it gets hot and in the winter it gets cold. Where is the luxury if you don't have proper confort?
审美疲劳
all of this gadgets will break and will malfunction 😞 every body knows it
No surprise there
Your body language and attitude is always "BMW is the leader"
We've had this "debate" before but your biased results speak the truth
BMW designs are currently the worst in the industry and their sales reflect this.
I have no brand bias. My initial “love brand” is Jaguar, unfortunately they’re dead. I m just focusing on whats the better car, and here it’s clearly the 4 Series whereas between GLC and X3 for example it is the GLC.
I know how strongly you feel about "animal skin" but you might want to cool it in reviews - regular non-vegan-car-enthusiast people that see this channel often think you're crazy after they have the term explained to them. They don't understand what you're talking about before that, and think you're crazy after I explain it to them
Just naming it by what it is, why should the truth be crazy? And when interested, I have a detailed explanation and background.
I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry.
