Just had the same problem happen to me the control arm broke off from the corroded subframe. had it inspected at firestone tire and now doing research about the problem. gonna call mercedes on the next business day with these points. thanks for the helpful video!
Thanks for the advice mine has just gone, the garage said the broken off bit was rubbing on the fuel tank! I'm off to The Merc garage now! Great test drive!!😂😂
I had the very same issues with my 2011 model. Mine had to go in for a recall for replacement of the passenger airbag back in August this year while in they found that my rear subframe was going. They put in a claim and were accepted by Mercedes for a replacement for free which would have cost £2086.00 if I had to pay. I had mine done Monday and just went and collected it back today 1st November and it feels brand new drives so much better now. I was told the reason for this corrosion, to begin with, was down to a third-party supplier in Germany who they have since changed but this goes right back to around 2007 models so has been going on for a very long time. The reason for replacing it for free is because it's classed as a recall which the first owner of my car ignored hence why they have done the job for free for me. Have to say mine was not as bad in this video but had a hole in it and would have been an MOT fail but all now good. Anyone who has this model should have their car checked out could save your life if it all goes wrong and the backend falls off. The dealer Sandown of Basingstoke did my replacement and did deal with it very well from start to completion top marks to them and thank you again for the free hire car while mine was in for repair a 21 plate C220D AMG Line auto Coupe.
I had same issue upon basic check at Mercedes while having airbag recall done, got it done free of charge given it’s a know fault with the subframe holding deposits causing it to rot from the inside
same problem on my c220 on an 08 plate when it went for a recall on airbags. merc main dealer said they would replace the subframe for free......booked in for next week......sorted.
Just found your video after searching for this issue. My 2013 C220 just failed mot for hole in rear subframe because it’s rotting inside out! Just spoke to Mercedes service centre. The woman transferring calls wasn’t helpful and very rude, but the service centre department I spoke to were much more helpful. Unfortunately there is a long wait time now. No courtesy cars left either so I’m looking to be without a car for at least 6 weeks!! £60+vat for inspection and then Mercedes Germany to decide if they are going to cover the cost or not! Fingers crossed they do 🤞🏼 Glad yours is sorted now and that you had use of a decent courtesy car 👍🏼
@@arturjay9771 my local Mercedes garage inspected the car, then tried to get me to authorise the replacement at a cost of £2,212. I sent them an appropriately worded email along the lines that I was not going to authorise anything and that they need to replace it at no cost to me. My car is 9rs old and still in the 10yr corrosion warranty. They phoned me back and told me Mercedes Germany have agreed to replace it at no cost to me. I said good, when am I going to get my car back because I need to for work? (as they didn’t have any courtesy car to give me) They said there is a few weeks wait on the part but would get to it as soon as possible. I picked my car up last weekend. So it was just over two weeks in total which is quicker and better than I expected. But was just a stress that I could have done without. I hope you get yours sorted too!! Just keep putting the pressure on them that it’s a known issue any they need to replace it at no cost to you, etc. Good luck.
Hi dave would it be possible for you to give me an idea of what i need to say to them as i have had the same problem my rear subframe has literally rotted away
I had no confidence in my local Mercedes dealer (Reading) dealing with the issue. Dealt with them before and messed me about previously on the airbag recall issue! I got the frame delivered in 2 days..and then had the frame fitted the next day. I’m happy to pay best part of £900 to not deal with them.
Hello mate, I did what you said and they are fixing my subframe free of charge, but I'm not entitled to having a courtesy car. I have to wait 6-8 weeks for the repair.
I've just discovered this problem. I started to hear a clunking noise whenever I change gear and it sounded it like something was about to let go big time. I think it also explains the cause of my back end stepping out whenever I braked. I've just put my VIN on the Mercedes webiste and the only recall thta's come up is the Takata airbag. I've read a few stories on forums where Mercedes have replaced the subframe FOC on W204s
I've since booked it in for inspection at a local Mercedes dealer. They will inspect the rear subframe FOC and subject to approval from MB, they will replace it. I will be documenting this on my own channel.
It was replaced under warranty. It was at the dealer for 4 weeks. Well worth the wait. I documented all this on my own channel. When the car was inspected, a few other issues were uncovered so I'm working through these.
Im on the point of buying a 2011 C Class and this has totally put me off buying it,if it was Mercedes policy to rectify this free of charge I would go ahead but not sure all main dealers will do this.

I have a 2008 C180 compressor. The rear subframe leg on the drivers side corroded. I managed to get a brand new one off E Bay..(Mercedes are out of stock). Cost me £500 for a new frame and £350 for labour to get it fitted. Given my usual garage wanted to charge well over £1000 to fit…I’d say phone around for best quote!! I knew something was wrong as there was a bump bump sound coming as I drove. The arm which is now completely loose was swinging back and fourth banging against the car. I have a ten year old W212 E220d, braked hard and the back end swung on me, so today i took the rear nearside wheel off the car and i have a rusty subframe the arm has pulled out, like you said rusty from the inside, The problem is servicing will Mercs kick off if i didnt use them ? BUT in reality that doesn't matter as it rusted from the inside out. Its really their problem. Thanks for the video it gives me a ray of hope, I will see if i can get a welder to do something if mercs dont come up with the goods, I am very disappointed with my Merc, I have a 32 year old SL and no problems, My E class must be a Friday afternoon car !

Hi, mateI have the same problem with my car will they change it for free if I go to mercedes?
Yes they should replace it for free if you tell them you've discovered it whilst driving.
@@Adhdmee thank you mate
Hi mate, is it best to get it inspected before asking for the free subframe replacement or could i just call and ask
Take it in for inspection first in my case 😀
@mhmh1 got it inspected free sub frame now thanks for your help legend
Mercedes in Indianapolis refused to replace mine, district manager Tanisha should resign, she was horrible , two months after replacing it myself they sent me a extended warranty, service just sucked so bad I will buy other models too bad Mercedes, sad sad customer service
You should try and get reimbursed for your expenses on this. MBZ has reimbursed quite a few owners over this very thing.
Can I ask you did your car have a mb service history
No I had no history just drove into the dealership and told them I nearly died in the car and they took it from there
Nice 1...my cars in mercedes benz at the moment.been told ive got to wait 6 f@##in weeks for it to be done
It sounds like a long time but it passed quite quick for me and luckily they gave me a courtesy car. Make sure u ask them for that too !
@Motoring Helps Mental Health I asked em when I took car in they said they had non available...wish they have given me a car as I'm disabled and need a car
Do.you.pay for courtesy car
Not for this circumstance
Hello mate did you pay some extra money for new car?🙂 Our they give you for free till your car be fixed?
No extra charge as it was covered but the anti perforation policy make sure you mention that if that refuse in anyway
