  • Today we fix my GE dishwasher which has been performing poorly. This is the part you need if your GE dishwasher isn’t cleaning the top rack and you have already checked to make sure the jets in the arms are clear of debris! SUPER EASY!

    This video helped me fix my problem but its a different dishwasher and the solution was simpler and free. I'm in the UK with a Bosch dishwasher. I checked for the conduit and found its in one piece and slots into two holes side by side behind the lower arm. No screws to undo. It wasn't in the holes properly, a couple of mm forward. It was a bit stiff but pushing it backwards enabled it to go back into the holes and push all the way down. The arm is now spinning again and looking forward to no more crusty glasses. Thanks for this video which helped me track down the issue and I hope my experience may help someone else out there fix their dishwasher for free.

    Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am a mechanical engineer and pretty handy but I was completely stumped. I had already replaced the diverter assembly and it still would not switch over to the top spray arms. Your solution did the trick. I even made up my own silicone seal until the correct one arrived at my doorstep. Luckily, my replacing the diverter assembly was not wasted, because the rubber pieces on the diverter assembly had actually deteriorated so badly that they were starting to leak, so I’m glad I caught that one in time. Did you figure this out yourself or did you get some prompting from someone or elsewhere online because I could not find anything along these lines after a lot of searching. Great video production too.

    • @dadfixdit
      @dadfixdit  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Hi Michael, I’m so happy to hear that it helped you out. If memory serves, I think I discovered it when I came across the service manual on a forum and someone explained how the diverter assembly worked. Doing some troubleshooting I realized with that seal leaking the conduit would lose all its back pressure, the diverter would never function properly and never spin the upper arms. Glad you caught your diverter assembly too- maybe I should take a look at mine. Thanks so much for watching and the awesome feedback- it truly means a lot!

    My top isn't spinning but the feed to it is outside the machine. I'll try to "snake" it next maybe, both arms were full of hard scum with clogged holes, have ran it with viniger then baking soda. It's slowly cleaning up, previous owner never maintained anything! Gonna shop vac all the crap out of it, maybe water supply tube is plugged up near the bottom.

      Wow, that’s unfortunate and frustrating when people don’t take care of things. Another good cleaning agent is citric acid. It’s great for the dishwasher, coffee pot and washing machine. You can buy a pretty large bag on Amazon for a few bucks and it will dissolve a lot of hard water buildup. Let me know if you get it running! Thanks for watching.

      Thanks so much for the great feedback. I’m so happy the video helped you fix it! Makes my heart glad. So the ratchet is a 1/4” drive ratchet with a handle extension on it. Honestly it’s prolly one of my most used tools. I absolutely love it. Mine is a Snap-on that’s like 20 years old but you can definitely get them from other companies a lot cheaper. Something like this would prolly be fine: amzn.to/4eawH8o You do need a 1/4” ratchet though as well. If you don’t have one then something like this is an affordable good option. They are affiliate links. Feel free to use them or not. Basically you can build your own set from anything, it’s just a socket, ratchet and extension handle. Thanks for watching!

    it looks like you have the same dishwasher as me. mine never dried well and then it suddenly dried completely but smelled like a wet dog. i repeated the wash but never heard it washing so i canceled the cycle. it drained and had heat on the coils. it's there a problem with the pump?

    • @dadfixdit
      @dadfixdit  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That’s odd. It could be a pump issue. I would make sure that all the spray holes in the arms are clear- top, middle and bottom. Then make sure you clean out the pump screen really well. Turn off heated wash and heated dry and see if it cycles at all.

      Do you mean the water is reaching the top arms and they are not spinning? If so then check the discharge hole in the arms as they often become clogged with food and debris.

    • @UpRoaryus
      @UpRoaryus Před 3 měsíci

      yeah, our kenmore has problems with this because it has no way to wash out particles that get into the arm and block the hole at the bottom on the end, and it happens A LOT. All it takes is a little bit of folded plastic or even a popcorn skin to flap over the hole and then no spin! I managed to see there was something in it by taking off the arm and shooting water through it from the sink to see if it was blocked because there's a lip on the inside which prevented stuff from being flushed out in reverse. SO ANNOYING (and how much would you bet on purpose to make you buy a new arm!) I ended up slicing the plastic open on the seam at the end and wedging it open to flush out a bit of plastic that got pushed over the hole, then melting it back together with a lighter to seal it again or else the water coming out the seam prevents it from spinning.
      This also may be the issue with some who have very hot water feeding in, as it over time can melt the plastic where its thin and splits the seams after a while . If you find water coming out of the arms anywhere besides the holes, try sealing them up and see if that helps.
