  • Varanasi is an abode of Lord Shiva and there is much more than the temples and the river Ganges here. Unearthing and experiencing traditions is yet another highpoint of visiting Varanasi with Tornos. ‘Masan Ki Holi’ or the festival of Holi that is celebrated in the cremation ghat is just one of the old traditions that are still alive in Varanasi. Amid the burning pyres, people (especially the Aghori, the devout followers of lord Shiva) smear each other with ash from the burnt dead bodies and throw dry colours on each other while dancing to folk music (even modern Bollywood songs now). No one knows since when this tradition has been around in Varanasi but it is as old as the Skand Purana, an ancient Hindu text.
Tornos brings to you off-beat experiences under the category of “Living Traditions” which are beyond the usual traditions and culture one knows about. This is is from Varanasi.
