- Today we are going to shave the door handles on the Chicken Truck, our 1953 Chevy pickup radical custom project. I'll be using a tig welder and a variety of hand tools to get the job done.

I'm sorry you have to endure hurtful and cruel comments concerning your work. People need to understand that we all can't be perfectionists like that fella out in eastern Canadia. I do have one criticism..... If you are going to flash photos of French cars and their owners on the screen, please tag a warning on the video.. My grandson was watching with me and now I have to have "the talk" with him... Cheers from the shed
Hahahahaha.. "the tallk". You and Kyle crack me up.
😁@@Joe.Doucette
When you're finished with your grandson Randahl--could you "talk" to me?

I learned something. I'll keep watching.
Nice work. It takes a different type of skill set to "Build" as oppose to "Restore" Looking forward to this build.
It sure does!
Hey Carter just keep on keeping on, in my opinion you are the best hammer on CZcams. I’ve never seen anyone pay attention more to the small things. Great video buddy.
Thank you, very kind of you to say!
Best hammer I don't know about that
Your the man
Thanks for taking the time for extra detail in the explanation ! I am very appreciative!
Glad it was helpful!
I'm not a comment guy so I really have to like a show to do it, watch you everytime you work. Love the show. Thank you!
Thank you Jeff!
Nice job shaving the door handle. It did look as good as the door with the bondo on it.
Thank you John!
I wish I was as crap at welding as you. I've been welding for 30 years and just can't get as crap. Must try harder.
Keep at it, you'll get there!
That's the kind of work I enjoy watching you do,great job man as always.
Glad you enjoy it!
You do a excellent description of what you're doing with a injection of humor
Glad you think so!
Thank you. I am learning (and I am old). I used a flapper wheel to strip an antique refrigerator and turned the cabinet into several oilcan situations. Not knowing what had happened, I purchased a shrinking disk. Did not work, now I had a bigger mess. Shrunk it even more with an acetylene torch, an even bigger mess.
Finally, I made a large slapper out of a heavy truck spring and polished it up really nice and used a piece of railroad track for a dolly. It worked out to where a thin coat of nitrocellulose glazing putty made it flat enough for the old girl I married. Curved metal is WAAAY easier than flat metal. Thankyou, again.
YaY ! Chicken Truck ...
I love the narration content it's pure internet gold. This station has come a really long way and all you had to do is embrace your weirdness. Really great stuff.
Haha thanks, I'm not sure anything has improved on this station, but I'm glad to hear you enjoy it!
Seconded!
It's so cute, you're playing with your dolly.
i love see you showing us make some out of rotten metal . you great teacher. most people never tackle repair any thing and that why we have cars missing parts it so nice see labor of love.
Finally! Some genuine bondo sculpting! Your level of integrity just went up in my eyes. Any fool can TIG weld in a patch and shape the metal back, but a real artist slathers on the filler! Seriously though, great work as usual Kyle!
You rock. Love your content. 😂
I believe you are as good as your present capability, If you are prepared to learn from your mistakes then you will make improvements......keep up with the fabrication and welding, on a personal level I find your skills to be excellent, you can only get better..... greetings from the UK.
Thank you!
Really like the explanations in detail , you are a good teacher if you believe it or not. Thanks for another good one ....
Thanks!
WOW - Nice job!
Thanks!
Not boring at all. In fact, a guy is just sitting here watching another popular CZcams feller and your video notification came up on the pocket computer, so a guy has to watch your video before completing the other one 😂.
Haha wow thanks, I appreciate that!
Nice metal work as per usual.
Sarcasm was on-point also.
Keep the great videos coming.
Well Kyle, I'm apparently in a different mindset than many because I enjoy watching spot welds being drilled and small repairs taking as long as they take. I'm to old to ever learn to do the work you do but watching your technique makes me better 😉 Thanks!
Right on! Thanks John!
Thanks for another.
Holy moly Kyle. Thanks for showing me what the inside of my door looks like. Your hammer speed never ceases to amaze me. This has to be the best explained panel repair video I have ever seen and I sit around stoned and watch a lot of videos. Can you put a funny car style escape hatch in the roof of the chicken truck so I know how to do it? I am very excited about this build. Mary is excited to meet Daisy, Joseph is passed out having his morning/afternoon nap. Thank you for your time.
No escape hatch planned, but when I do a video on chopping the top, just skip the second half of the video when I weld the roof back on and you should have a pretty convincing escape hatch
This build is going to be cooler than a witches tit in the Yukon.@@CarterAutoRestyling
You make it look easy.. Awesome work as always.
Sorry to hear about the Lambos. Losing one is bad enough, but losing two is just heartbreaking. Of course if you hadn't spent all that money on hair repair you might have been able to keep them. The chicken truck will be a very cool custom. The nice thing about shaved handles on a two door truck is you can't look at both sides at the same time. Nobody will be able to tell if they match or not. Cheers! 😎👋🛻🏁🏁
What!? Are you saying they don't match!?
No, not at all. Obviously both methods work.😉🛻🏁🏁@@scottcates
Only being able to see one side at a time has been my repair standard since the beginning!
Holy Guacamole! Stop sweating it. I learned a lot today! Thanks man!
Glad to hear it!
Kyle the chicken truck door looks finger lickin' good.
Hahah thank you Kelly, hope you don't get sued by KFC for stealing their slogan!
Prefect! That big crater will give you a place to put some filler!
I don’t care about cars, I watch you and Scott for the latest in men’s fashion. Cold War haberdashery!
Lol nice work
I like the look into you personal struggles. At least you've been somewhat rehablitated after your stint in the slammer.
The main focus of this channel has always been my rehabilitation
@@CarterAutoRestyling You seem to be well on your way. Don't relapse now!
@@kennethstaszak9990Too late. Wait till you see what I just bought!
@@CarterAutoRestyling This ought to be interesting! But I thought you're broke? Or did you sell the truck?
I guess the benefit of shaving the door handle with bondo is that you have less of that tedious hammering to get rid of the dent caused by shrinkage. Sounds good to me! Nevertheless, pretty impressive how you made those welds disappear!
Sometimes I add extra hardener to the bondo so it gets really hot when it kicks over and warps the door. Then I try hammer and dollying it, but the bondo keeps cracking. What am I doing wrong?
Concourse! Concourse! Pebble Beach or Bust!
With the way this vid started off with the Red Green narration, I was thinking the duct tape was coming out for sure. Maybe next time. On a more serious front, you can learn some real skills from that French car guy who moonlights as a tractor gnome. The airplane wing gusset door he made was really something.
Yes he is a true artisan!
Your a increasable talented man I've done dozens of door skins replacement but never to save and reuse the skin I personally would have mig welded patches as neatly as possible and then some supreme bodywork and whala best wishes you are super
Awesome video as always! How you make your repair disappear is magical! 👍🏼😊
Thanks!
Quality Content . thanks
Your body work is like me cooking asparagus in butter, just beautiful sir!
Putty is your pal 👍👍
Sure is!
Two words: Beautiful work!
Your musical selections are perfect. Thanks for not subjecting us to that clubby urban apocalyptic audio hellscape so common to CZcams videos.
The drinkers side door looks like you ran out of jelly
@@willydavid yep. 😎
New to your channel...your humour and sarcasm is priceless..thanks for the clear explanations
Thanks for stopping by! I'm glad to hear you enjoy this type of nonsense!
some of my favourite type @@CarterAutoRestyling
Nothing "lame" at all about your video. Greatly appreciate the explanations/education !! Did a somewhat bigger but similar round patch from a "saddle tank" filler hole in a Model A running board splash apron. Had exactly the same experience you just showed. That's when I discovered that you need to grind off the majority of the weld bead prior to trying to metal work the patch and its surrounding area. Also needed to use the shrinking disc and the slapper before calling it "OK" !! Definitely not "good" !!
Yeah those splash aprons are a bugger to fix!
Great body metal work. Just hang around a little longer and things will get better. The Hot Rod Chanel will be picking up the tab and you can move to Florida this cold winter. Your ok Kyle have fun and we will watch.
Lol autobody indecency
In my 49 years of body work I have never removed a door skin with the idea of reinstalling it. Makes sense with what you are doing though.
Yeah I can't see a bodyshop ever needing to do this.
WoW Kyle 2 vidéo In few time . I love it . Thank you 🎉😂😂
I will send you a new jacket and shoe laces, let me know.😁😁😁😁
Excellent video this is one of my favorites
Thanks, I'm glad to hear that!
Can’t friggin wait to see all of these modifications!
Right on! Me too!
The engineer that designed the die for those holes is rolling over in his grave.
That looks fantastic!
Thanks!
To be honest, it didn't even occur to me about the possible variations of angle needed for the window tracks.
Made sense once you described it... and having the skin off (albeit not a simple 5 minute job for removal) will make it a lot easier to get it set up correctly, along with swapping for the one piece side glass.
Keep up the fine work and I look forward to the next episode.
It's easy if you just pre-bend the glass.
Thanks, I'll try to keep the episodes coming!
you look like an expert to me, but I'm no expert
Takes one to know one I suppose!
Serviço top😮😮
Look forward to this build...will be cool....
Before you dig in to the meat and potatoes you do indeed have to peel the potatoes and prepare the meat first. Food for thought and never forget the good old Bondo gravy. Yummy.
And I thought that disappearing parts only happened at my shop thank you 😅
Winter will be coming to Texas before long, is there any chance I could lease or borrow your fine plaid jacket? 60 F. is no joke.
Haha sorry you're on your own! It's supposed to snow here tomorrow
It's really 69 degrees lol@@CarterAutoRestyling
Mr Carter I wish I would have found you along time ago you are amazing, i watch your videos on CZcams TV so i can't comment ( dont know how to set it up,) but i really enjoy your craft and humor and you have the fastest hands ive ever seen LOL
I enjoy watching your content your actually a lot worse than you think you 😀 keep up the good work
Love the hammer work
Please more cats less French cars 👍
Sorry to hear about the Lambos. Don’t worry though, I sent you one of mine. No one should be without at least one. The world is a tough place. CWM should be delivering it soon. 👍
Thanks so much, I'm looking forward to delivery day
To be honest, matey, I was surprised at you taking all that time to put metal in the holes where the door handle was when you still have that huge Bondo sponsorship to take advantage of. Likewise, the missing etal at the bottom of the door can easily be taken care of with some nice chicken wire (it IS the Chicken Truck, isn't it?) then some long strand, then some short strand and lastly the plastic filler on top to make it all smooth. How else are all of us blokes with old cars going to keep the myth that "the old doors are heavier because were made of thicker metal" going if you don't fill them up like we do?
Seriously Kyle, I really enjoy watching you work with the TIG and sort out the issues caused by heat shrinkage. Your ability to feel the metal and instinctively know what its doing, why it is doing it and how to correct it, is not something everyone has. I also like the idea of where you are going with this project and it makes total sense why you'd pull the outer skin off if you are going to be basically redesigning the inside workings of the door, as there's certainly little room to get at the cavity otherwise. Bloody good call, I reckon! Are you going to put electric windows in the beast as well?
A good watch, my friend. Thanks for putting it up there. All the best.
Thank you! I will be keeping the crank up windows in this truck.
Amazing it looks perfect to me. That was a lot of work to say the least. God bless
GM unnecessary spot welds, if only they cared 1/2 as much today
Awesome . . . i hope u continue to ruin more stuff 4 folks to enjoy watching.
That's the plan!
The sound of the hammer and dolly is like rain on the window💫
You have brightened up a dull morning here in the U.K. Looks like you are going to have a heck of a lot of work modifying the two doors and I look forward to seeing you do it. Best wishes.
Thanks George! It's definitely going to keep me busy for a while!
You are certainly humble when it comes to you work. If I could get to 25% of what you do I would be happy. :D
Spot on......................... ... ..... ..!
Good to see the Lambos gone. Now you can get a couple of Mclarens. Screw that Italian trash, who needs them? Still trying to figure out how shortening the doors will raise the roof for the Chicken truck. I think you might have that backwards..
Stay tuned, it will make sense eventually!
As always another great video.
I was hoping for some tips on using window screen and bondo to repair a door, but I guess this helps a little too.
That will be in the next video
You can't compromise with both bondo and metal? Weld grind hammer fill? Almost criminal! Oh and thanks, I repaired (mig welded) then grind then sanded with 50 and then 80 grit think oh what would carter do. 😮
Neat! I think I want a TIG. And the skills to use it. And hammer and dolly skills....
Go for it!
A learning experience, way to go.😊
Did you check how straight the door was before you shaved the handle?
I would almost lay money on the fact it wasn't as straight as you made it.
As always... nice work and good video.
Anyone who says differently should show us what they can do.
Hi Joe! I did check, but it was after I had mangled the edges by removing the skin. Sadly, we will never know for sure. Another one of lifes mysteries goes unsolved
Dang it! That's yet another of the great mysteries of life. Like why a blueberries blue and why does that Scott feller like those French cars so much.
😢 I'm telling you there's a lot of armchair quarterbacks out there that's things that can do the job and they criticize their own CZcams people said to yourself that are trying to teach methods and practices that are sound and proper the something that hides together like jobs together like DD speed shop or something that they might watch him think their experts after doing it but even Dan says don't use my videos as a tutorial because I'm not a teacher of this I just do it the way I do it because we aren't allowed to by our inspections to have any holes in her vehicle here in Canada See here in the US we can drive around with the main holes as we want in our trucks and as long as there's not pieces flying off AUS cops don't bother You're the inspectors so that's the difference between your laws and hearts but I again appreciate what you do and I learned a lot so far smoke people on trucking buddy
Hi Kyle. Thank you again for all the great tips. Love the hammer on dolly you did with the small patch. As always I liked and shared. Give the Cats a treat for me. All my very best.
Thanks from me and the cats!

We do have duct tape, but it's become too costly, so I've had to go without!
@@CarterAutoRestyling Ahh,, I understand,, 🤔😬💖
Me an amateur and too stupid to be scared, I have ruined lots of body panels. Problem is I can't fix my F-up like you can. I do have access to tons of Bondo. thank you stay safe ALL. O good job hope you're feeling don't get hurt too bad on this one hate to see a grown man cry.
Very impressive,this upload…
Admire your outlook on life
Haha thanks
You did a great job welding that door. Especially unsheeting the door not a real fun job. But you may have a few limitations welding Kyle but they look great to me. A little Bondo and paint and who's gonna know anyway. Hey are your cats still on strike?
Wow. Sir that is flawless.
Very entertaining. Thanks.
👍🏻🍺
Hiya carter great video always informative like many other channels on CZcams I'm certainly not a expert on bodywork sorry to hear your having a hard time right now. Life sure ain't easy my friend, love the channel and what you do keep up the amazing work ♥️👌
Thanks Dean!
Looking forward to seeing more cutting and welding. 🥸👍✌️ Cheers
I think you're an excellent body man and everybody gets tired of rust at some point. I wish that I was as good as you are on your worst day! TRUTH !!!
NICE JOB IS THE 66 SOLD ?
Have a deposit on it, should be getting picked up next week
I mean this very sincerely. I wish you were teaching welding in a school somewhere and I can only hope a lot of your subscribers are young welders. Bravo on all the explanations and examples. Great episode as always and really looking forward to the next one! Great job. 👍
