@@stunnabefodread5533 every man and woman must find it on their own journey. On a very basic level we are all creators. Some say it’s a reflection of a higher power.. God, Allah, the pumpkin in the sky. Whatever you believe it to be. You need to know you have the power. The talent, gift within you. We has a human race overcame incredible odds. The savior is within us. Individually. What we choose to do.. good or bad…. It’s us. Look at what basquiat was able to create despite his circumstances. Peace
One day I received a postcard from one of my best friends, Adji. It was the poster of this film. I didnt know Basquiat back then. Ever since I have loved Basquiat. My friend Adji died.
my fav of Benicio's scenes, @ 00:15:00 -ish. that lady! He takes care of his friend 💗 Willie Mays. So sweet. Mywho knows how many times watching this film. Thank you Unloader.
This always breaks my heart, not only that the art world basically killed him and forced him to represent something he didn't need to (because his work speaks for itself) but how the director chose to push this same narrative while adding himself as an influence. The surfing scenes are so cringey. At least he added that his mother is latin and stayed away from associating him with hip hop showing a lot more of his influences than most.
I thought the Surfing scenes that are cut in between kind of represent his emotional state /the interaction inside of basquiat with the art World around him. I think towars the end of the movie esp when Warhol dies and the "Surfing" movie Shows a huge overwhelming wave and basquiat sits there cryin infrot of the screen ties it all together. Or the scenes where it Shows Surfing on the Board still meaning basquiat is Surfing the wave of success. Like an ongoing metaphor throughout. But everyone can have their own opinion ofcourse.
I know you left your comment asking where Part II is of Basquiat three years ago, but I'm wondering the same thing. I wish this channel creator would post the rest!!!!
I never get annoyed watching this movie. This is pure gold for art soul like me. Thank you for posting this. May LORD JESUS bless you.
One of my All-Time Favorites, basquiat was one of those people who realized god isnt out there, he is in all of us
What brought you to this realization

I still remember being heartbroken when Basquiat sold Rene's painting. Rene is basically the dude everyone would want on their team.
This is such an inspiring movie😌😌

He was on heroine and other drugs long before he started painting for a living.
