After the last video, I was hooked and wanted to have a new style Glaser B-Bender installed in one of my guitars. The Bill Crook-built Paisley seemed like the appropriate candidate, so I set up a time for an install, and Joe agreed to the entire process being filmed. Besides me removing the strings, and Joe removing the neck, this is the entire installation process from beginning to end. I hope through watching this you can see what would be involved in having one installed in your guitar, but more than that, I hope you can see both the brilliance of Glaser's design and how ingenious his installation procedure is. The reason for the new bender mechanism being so streamlined was that Joe had to develop a bender mechanism and installation procedures that could be used by large guitar manufacturers. This is the same mechanism that is installed by Fender USA into the Brent Mason Signature model, and by Fender's Custom Shop into some of their high-end models.
Joe also shows how he strings vintage-style tuners and locks the plain strings for greater tuning stability.

Joe Glaser always seems to have all day to talk to anyone , while still getting things done . The calmest guy in a stressful industry , the Fred Couples of the guitar world !
Most accurate comment I’ve ever seen
I can see it now, " hey Joe, send me a kit." Then it's, "hey Joe, can I send you the partially installed kit, and my hacked up tele?"
Lmao,… exactly!
Better off letting the pro do it!
Great to see Joe Glaser in action in his shop. Great tips on stringing up and string trees too. Thanks Zac!
This episode was a real treat. Thank you Zac and Joe.
Joe: "A lot of people call me up, and want to just buy a kit."
Haha, that's totally me. I did call from the Netherlands, hoping I could install one, someday.
What a great guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So reveered yet so natural!!! There are so many protentious guitar guys out there its a treat to listen to Joe. If only I lived in America I would pay a visit. Great video Zac!!!!
I love that he mentioned the end mill in a collet thing. I worked as a machinist for years. It made me nervous to see that until he mentioned it was not correct and I realized he did indeed know how to use that thing.
I call that doing the wrong thing the right way.
Saturday morning with a fresh cup of coffee watching Joe Glaser install his new B-Bender in a Telecaster is about as good as it gets. Learned a lot from just listening to his thought process and watching him work. Joe might be a guitar repairman by trade but he has a problem solving engineering mind. Thanks for sharing another outstanding video!
Joe is a national treasure he should live forever
I’m a 32 year finish carpenter, and am amazed by Joe’s abilities as a craftsman and innovator. I called his shop one time and he actually answered the phone , and had a 20 min discussion...
Normally I would cry at the site of a guitar being drilled into so cavalierly but when you’re talking about Joe it’s like watching the worlds most accomplished surgeon and you know everything is going to be amazing when he’s finished ❤
I use to hang out at Joe’s old shop in the early to mid 80s and help out winding Mandocaster pickups. He is a class act.
The Leiper's Fork shop. Cool!
Yup. Being that I lived out on the west side of town his shop back then was real convenient to say the least.
I would have loved it if Joe would have said, "oops!" in the middle of it, just to hear Zac's reaction.
I loved that! Great episode. Joe seems to be a pretty humble guy. That b-bender is a great design. It was great watching it being assembled in its entirety.
Glad you enjoyed it!
BS!!!the Camara should've been twice as close ,to really see it I think
I can only imagine the rush on Joe’s shop for installs after this video.
Thanks Zak
What gracious, generous friends you have Zac! And how gracious and generous you are to share with us. What an utter joy. Thank you!
I just got a Brent Mason Tele, and seeing this answered all the questions I had on the bender. Thanks to you and Joe for doing this!
A great thanks to Joe and Zac for letting us see this process.I inquired about his first unit in the 90's called him direct back then from Melbourne
Australia..
I’m late to watching this video, but gosh dang what a awesome experience to view this and listen/learn from the MAN himself!! Thanks Zac for taking the time to record this and put it out there. Very much appreciated
Thanks for the detailed video, Zac. Great to see how the installation is getting done. Hoping to get my hands on a Bender someday.
This was great Zac, thanks for taking us along. I work in a machine shop with both mills and lathes this was cool to see!
oh my... that is the big one... great behind the scenes Zak... thanks for all of your hard work and dedication!!
It takes a true master to show his craft and share his knowledge with everyone. The guitar whisperer :D
Thanks Zac that was really cool !
Can you imagine what a conversation between Joe & Leo Fender would be like, and then invite somebody like, Paul Bigsby and have him bring Ted McCarty... Guitar Geek Heaven :-)
Great field trip!!! Had Joe do an install last summer and I’ve fallen in love with it! He’s so great to deal with, amazing customer service! Thanks for taking us along!
Very cool!
This is a wonderful and insightful video. Thank you Joe and Zac, for providing us with such a useful experience!
Joe's a treasure to the guitar community and a great guy.
What a treat! Great Albert Lee lick in the intro. And then watching a master at work! I absolutely agree with him; the early Blackguard was PERFECT. No need to change ANYTHING on them!
That was awesome! I love the fact that there is so little wood removed compared to the old Parsons/White string benders. You really showed every aspect of how he does it, and how well thought out his process is. Glaser looks like a really stand-up guy.
Wow - this is a really special video. I enjoy watching a real genius at work. Watching Joe Glaser install his invention is a lifetime experience. Thanks, Zac for a real treat.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I had Joe put a bender in my tele in 1985 and it has worked great all this time, this new bender looks even better.
That Paisley Tele went from cool to amazing. I love the sound of the bender!
Really enjoyable way to spend a morning in Joe Glaser's shop. Thank you CZcams and thank you Zac!
THAT. WAS. AWESOME. I love Joe Glaser and his shop/benders. He is such an incredible mind at work. Thank you so much for sharing, Zac!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you and Kim are well.
Zac, Thank You for this!!! So enjoyable, on so many levels. I’ll be viewing this one repeatedly, so I don’t miss anything. I’ve heard stories of how busy Joe is, and of his legendary status in the guitar world. I can’t help but think, after watching this, that he’s about to get a lot busier…
Keep up the great work, Zac! Love It!
Thanks, Jim!
Fascinating video - thanks so much to you and Joe for sharing this process. He is, not only a charming guy, but simply a genius. Makes me really really want one now!
Thanks so much for this field trip! So great to see Joe's process and jigs!
I knew you would get the artistry of his process.
Two National Treasures! Many MANY moons since I’ve been there. Thanks for the virtual hang. As always, I’m walking away with some treasures, such as “back thru the valley”. My “sponge caster” is definitely a candidate now!
Again, thanks for the trip “behind the curtain”. I need to get this done before somebody violates a patent and he’s “off to the islands”!
You bet!
Thanks Zack; this was a joy to watch.
Such a brilliant design! Thanks to both of you for showing us the process. Cool stuff!
You bet!
A pretty neat video! You can really see the thought Joe Glaser has put into this. The tools have been designed to improve the efficiency and to eliminate potential errors from what is quite precise process. I’d really like to get one of these. Not only do they work great, the impact to the guitar is about as minimal as it could be.
Hey Zac, great episode. I’ve been a fan of
B Benders for years. Watching Joe’s expertise and precision has me now re-thinking my own build. I really enjoyed the discussion of all the engineering involved.
Thanks again for this video and all your great content.
Good stuff!
Always wondered how Joe's bender worked. Now I know. Thanks Zac AND Joe!
You bet!
GREAT show! Joe Glaser is one of my heroes. The way he works to solve issues and fixes them in simple hands on ways is amazing. Thanks Zac!
Absolutely!
This was a great video! I was fortunate enough to hang out with Zac at BP’s concert in Anchorage, AK in 2004 and can attest that Zac is a very classy guy! It’s great to see that Joe Glaser is so awesome as well! Thanks to Zac and Joe for sharing this!
Thank you for reminding me of that great trip! And thank you for making it fun. Zac
Outstanding! Thank you Zac and Joe.
What a great video ! thanks to you and Joe !!!
Really good video to see this being installed. Many thanks Zac and to Joe for putting this together.
Spock!!!!

Such a pleasure to see you again with such informative and interesting content. Thank you so much for this video. I LOVED it! :)
Very good show! I still have the old bender.
I’ve been waiting for a video like this since probably 2008. Thanks Zac!
Welcome
Can't thank you enough for sharing that, Zac...what an interesting glimpse into his world...
My pleasure!
Loved this video. It's so great to watch it happen.
You are so kind
This is so awesome Zac!! I've always wanted to know how the heck his bender is made and this made my day! Looks like I'm going to reserve a spot now for my Tele to get the bender she deserves!
I was watching videos on B benders and stumbled on to this video.
What a great find! Joe Glaser is a totally chill dude! And now I know about the best designed B bender!
🤙
Awesome, thank you!
Really cool . You are living the dream down there in the music city....thanks for a sneak peak
My pleasure!!
Very clever device. I agree with him this is not something to be done in the average garage. There's too much chance of ruining a prized guitar. Joe has put a lot of thought and work into this design and deserves the fruit of his labor. Thanks for sharing.
What a master. Letting us see behind the curtain was awesome. The guy who is responsible for some of my favorite sounds. I can only aspire to one day get good enough to make the investment to add a binder to one of my guitars. I am still at the stage I wouldn’t want to add something else to distract me from my journey of learning to pick
Watched your vid on the B/G convertible bender and because of that I just sent Joe my tele yesterday...I spoke with him on the phone and the guys funny as hell.... I mentioned your vid as my source in an email to Joe and this was what he said about you in his reply: "He's great...really helping spread accurate info".
That means a ton to me, as Joe is one of my favorite people on the planet.
Thanks for doing this, Zac. I've always wanted to see this process. Super cool stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it!
You have the coolest friends, Zac. Thanks for this!
You are so welcome
I normally don’t leave comments, but this has to be the best video I’ve seen in quite a while. Totally enjoyed it, very insightful. Thanks Zac!
Thank you, Damage
Great video,Zac. What an amazing master craftsmen and inventor he is!
Couldn't agree more!
Installed by a legend! Nothing but respect for Joe!!!!
I have watched this several times and still love it . I made my living repairing guitars, but his shop equipment is fantastic. A milling machine , 3d printer and hejust knows how to use it.
Joe did an amazing job on my Tele! Installed the bender and pleked the frets. Called me to discuss the process. Great video!
Very cool!
Hey Zac thanks for taking us along. What a great attention grabbing intro by the way, nice bender work.
Thanks 👍
Awesome editing Mr. Zac. Love behind the scenes videos. Cool!
Thanks!
Great share! Joe is one in a million! Thanks Zac!
Beautiful guitars. I have a 1996 American Standard strat I bought new and have played a lot for someone who doesn’t play out. And it doesn’t show a lick of wear, kind of like plastic. I really prefer a guitar that shows it’s been used. Thanks for sharing your hard earned knowledge!!!
Love this video!!! It’s soo cool to see the legend himself do his thing.
Thanks for showing this!!!!!
Excellent to see a character and workshop to put to the name I've heard mentioned hundreds of times
I learned so much today watching this episode. I am a viewer for life. Thanks so much. :)
This is gold. Thanks Zac ! And Joe.
The man (Joe) is def a musician at heart. Looks like he just rolled out of bed (or was sleeping in a shop chair), crazy hair, t-shirt inside out, yada, yada......love it! And the kids in Silicon Valley think only software developers do that.
I have a crook custom just like that, it will have a bender soon. Oddly enough I also have that exact strap from the 90's! You have good taste Zac!
This is brilliant. I always enjoy watching this kind of thing. I hope that I can send a guitar to Joe one day…
Zac, thanks for the upload, this was an absolutely fantastic watch. I'd love to check out one of the new Glaser Benders one day!
Thanks, Will!
Always wanted a B bender..i have to pay this gentlemen a visit...thank you
Just getting my Mason I was on the edge of my chair watching everything and getting to know how it works. As always Zac put out another educating video that I bookmarked so if I decide to change to G I'll watch the master (Joe) and do it right. Thanks Zac. CW
What a great show Thanks Zac and Joe for allowing us inside the magic kingdom.
It seams the new bender takes away alot less wood
Great Video and great upgrade by Mr.Glaser.
Man, from one Joe to another, he seems like such a nice guy. His voice is reminiscent of Lindy Fralin in a way.
Thanks for sharing this Zack!
Really VERY COOL SHOW, THANKS So Much Great Idea, it is just Amazing the thought & Skill that went in to this device !!! Thanks to both of you !!!
Thank you! Cheers!
The only easy way to get a Glaser Bender Tele in Germany is to buy a Fender Brent Mason. So I bought one. Ask Zac is a great youtube channel and I'm not even a country fan.
Roland, da sagst du was. Bekommt man echt nicht in die Hände. Bin auch auf der Suche, aber die Brent Mason Tele wollte ich irgendwie nicht kaufen. Bis jetzt.. Bist du zufrieden mit der und gefällt dir der Bender?
@@timklausnitz The Bender is working excellent. I'm trying to figure out how to use it in Blues. The pickups are good and the combinations are interesting. But I will switch some tradional Tele pickups.
Best video I've seen this year.
Thanks!
Great video, now we need to hear it.
Just enjoyed watching this in funky England - many thanks! One day I’d love a guitar just like yours! Great to see Joe do his thing & love that pink & gold paisley.
Glad you enjoyed it!
We can thank Schaller for tuners that stay in place and don't unwind from string tension. The original M6 tuners had a special "locking mechanism" inside that meant they stayed where you left them and wouldn't move. That mechanism was the worm gear & sprocket design that's basically become the industry standard for everyone from the cheapest tuners to the most expensive. They all use the Schaller gear design inside so the tuners don't slip.
That's likely why he said that without question, almost any tuner will work fine. They will. If a new tuner slips or even an old tuner that's been in use for a while, the first place to look is for wear or damage to the gear mechanism. 👌
Way to go Zac! Knocked it out of the park! Cheers!
Joe did my first re fret on my 69 Strat when the shop was still in a garage or near Franklin tn. Early days. Alex Harvey took me there. Luv ya Joe. 👍🎸👍
Very cool!
Fascinating! & thanks Joe!
Glad you enjoyed it
This makes me wish I lived in Nashville and took some machine shop classes in college. To be able to work on guitars all day - that is a dream.
Unbelievable video Zac! This is one of those little projects I would never attempt. LOL.
50:56 is very true. I lost the e clip on one of my Dunlop strap lock very long ago and finally have gotten to replace it after when I started getting into motorcycle building lol
Superbly done!
The professor himself - this was a pleasure to watch.
I would definitely trust this guy to work on my guitar. What a great video Zac, thanks so much for this. BTW, one Telecaster (any bolt on neck) tip that can make a difference is; after tuning the guitar to pitch, loosen the neck bolts a sixteenth or maybe an ⅛ of a turn, just enough to let the neck loosen enough to seat the neck. If you hear a little *crack that means it pulled the neck tight into the body. It absolutely helps sustain. It does not always make a little crack but that just means it was seated well to begin with. Sounds scary and wrong but it's not.
Love your channel Zak. Especially the Jimmy Bryant episode. Keep up the good work Sir. This was absolutely fascinating..
Thank you kindly!
