Why do you think US has the biggest military and budget with over 600 bases in over 150 countries around the world. As a Muslim married to a Canadian born Chinese who is also Muslim, we have travelled in and out of China for over a decade and NEVER had any issues there. I sometimes wore my hijab and sometimes didn't and never faced any issues neither did my husband or children. In contract ove had issues in the US and Canada with racism. The US and its allies like Canada fully support Israels ethnic cleansing of Palestinians - which is evidence clearly in decades of testimony and video footage and UN reports, Canada have honorary citizenship to the President of Myanmar during the Rohingya genocide, the US recently killed 10 Afghanis on purpose and found themselves not guilty, on top of these insults, the US has murdered 4million Muslims since 1990....and they want talk to me about Uighur Muslims? They wanna use us now when it's convenient for their narrative? That's the big hyprocrisy lead by US and its allies who has no history of liking or even caring much about Muslims in their own countries themselves. I had a Muslim colleague who was questioned in LAX airport during his business trip and has sworn never to step foot on US soil ever again. Btw, we are working in an American international bank. The only silly reason LAX airport officials could gave him was he was a muslim. Just imagine if US officials can treat a normal muslim like my colleague without justification what more do they treat other muslims elsewhere. In Chinese, there is a phrase, "Three people said there was a tiger walking on the street, it must be true." What it means that, as long as there are lots of people saying something is happening, that thing, no matter how impossible and how unreal, it is considered happened.
Facts do not matter, it is all about narratives. The ones talking about it of course do not care. But interesting enough, the ones listening will eventually believe it, even though at the beginning their common sense would reject the notion. It seems human psychologically would eventually get confused by what is true and what is false as long as you keep on receiving wrong information. And you will just select the narrative that is being repeated. Your mind would, no matter how clear it was before, surrender to the brainwash.

It is glaring that US's diplomatic and economic attacks on China are restricted to the English speaking 5-eye nations. The rest of the world knows these attacks are no more than actions of US's pursuit of the "America first" policy. While most of them are silent they are most likely please to see US having to go through such trouble because they themselves couldn't fight the US but the world has countries like China (and Russia too) stand up against the US hegemony.
Personally, like every Chinese, I am not bothered with the US passing bills to stop Xinjiang products going to US and its allies using fabrication. This is because if US passes law based on smears, slanders and fabrications US is the one having a big trouble. Just like US congress passing bill to restrict Hong Kong based on accusations of the human rights violation in Hong Kong. Congress spokesperson Nancy Pelosi commented Hong Kong rioters storming Hong Kong legislative council chamber was " a beautiful sign to behold". When Trump's mob later on 6 Jan stormed the Congress building, ransacked her office and stole her laptop she initiated impeachment against Trump. Thus the world knows the double standard of the US politicians displayed in the world's TV. Everyone can see what happen in Hong Kong Xinjiang. The truth will eventually come out and it is US congress people who will find themselves in ridicule in the end.
China doesn't bother much to defend the US accusations and that is exactly what it should do because China is not answerable to every US interference of China's internal affairs. Interfering with other country's internal affairs and has it recorded in Congress is a nice evidence showing how incompetent is the president and how hegemony-crazy the Congress is. US may think it runs the world but the world countries think otherwise.

There's Child Labor in India farming cotton, but the USA does not care. The USA have a mentality that if other nations are developing, then they are in decline. @@jvs333 fully agree. I would not deny that china did abuse human rights in the region (and probably still does). I trust sources like amnesty and they have a record of evidence. But I think the full truth is far more complicated. Xinjiang region had terrorist activities and attacks in the past. Bad actors from outside china have strong interests in separational movements. China reacted strong. On the one side with "re-education" measures on the other side with sustainable investments in infrastructure. Streets, bridges, housing, economy. The living standard in the region is way up.
Look what the US did in Afghanistan (then in Irak). They did start with a strong hand as well but completely failed to build something sustainable for the people. The mess in the whole region is bigger than ever. Billions wasted. Hundred-thousands killed (mostly civilians).
Yes, China DID violate human rights and deserves to be accused of this. But so far I have not seen any better example of solving the threat of religious motivated extremism in this region with a sustainable outlook to the future.

I totally agree with the point that, if the US assumed that there are forced labor in Xinjiang, why did not they ask their brands like KFC, McDonalds, Starbucks etc withdraw from China ? More investigation or review should have been done before passing such legislation. Of course, if China retaliates in some way the US will cry foul. I had an on line discussion with someone about US prison labour being basically forced/slave labour. His answer was that the prisoners were happy to have work to do. That reminds me of people who try to justify other forms of slavery in the past.

Great points! Bush was getting on China about the crackdown in Xinjiang when he took office. Then 911 hit and the first county he visited was China to form alliance against terrorism cause he knew that the Uighers were being recruited by terrorist groups and were being sent back to Xinjiang to disrupt China from within. The way China attacks terrorism is to provide economic opportunities by training the Uighers to speak Mandarin, train them in vocational schools (not detention camps because they can go home after school) spend hundreds of billions investing in infrastructure as other projects in Xinjiang. I’ve been in China long enough to remember terrorist attacks in Xinjiang and was told by Uighers friends not to visit there without escort. I also remember when Beijing allowed Uighers to carry massive knives on them, when ordinary Chinese couldn’t even carry a pocket knife in Beijing, because to carry those knives was a Uighers custom. I have tons of Muslim friends in China who DO drink alcohol. It’s NOT a Muslim tradition to abstain from alcohol but it’sthe extremists that are trying to wipe out real Muslim culture in China.
Drinking alcohol and eating pork is banned in Islam, it’s not extremist. If your Muslim friends drinking alcohol then that’s their own problem.
