  • A little comparison and on-water testing of the NEW Pyranha Kayaks Firecracker 232 VS. the Ripper 2 Small. I hope you enjoy. Thanks to Pyranha for the demo! Sorry for the bad audio, the wind was ripping so I had to do voice isolation.

    Thanks man.
    Really appreciate you doing back to back comparisons as I haven't had chance to test either boat yet.
    I'm leaning more towards buying the Firecracker for surfing prowess and its stern control when running holes and drops.
    Keep the great content coming.

    We missed you by a day! Went from the whitewater center to Erwin, TN on Sunday, so we could pick up Liberty’s new small scorch. Her smoking gecko 232 has already been preordered. I’m definitely going to try her boats, but I still love my rewind and code.

    Good and helpfull review.
    I was able to paddle the 242 but not the small one.
    How do you fit ? What for a height and shoe size do you have ?

    • @DownstreamV
      @DownstreamV  Před rokem

      I fit great in the small and mostly paddle small boats which is why I review small boats. I am 5-9 and weigh 145. Shoes size 10.5. I fit in there with full astrals no problem.

    Nice review. Interesting that you thought it was harder to get vertical than the Ozone. I've tried the medium Firecracker and I found it way easier to get the tail down than the medium Ozone (I'm 145lbs without kit). I need to try the small Firecracker, but I'm right at the very top end of it, and it's kind of hard to work out whether to get a small for general summer river running verticality, or to get the medium and just use it as a general go to whip.

      You are fine for the the small. I am 145 and the tail didn’t catch whatsoever. The ozone tail is way skinnier and thinner so I am not sure why you can’t get that stern under. I can literally pop the ozone up with no paddle. Also the small may be harder to get vertical than the medium firecracker because of less stern. Sometimes more helps increase load in the water.

      @@DownstreamV Thanks man. Yeah, the Ozone I can get the tail under but I find it really hard to reliably get it vertical (in the medium). But I found I could get the medium Firecracker under really easily and keep the tailie going through multiple spins. Not sure why. I like the way the Firecracker paddles down river much more than the Ozone.

    Interesting! I’m going to try demo the firecracker this week. I’m 5’10 and approx 150lbs (without any kayak kit on) Do you think the 232 might be better? Kinda just over there suggested weight.

    • @DownstreamV
      @DownstreamV  Před rokem +1

      Depends what you are wanting the boat for. For a downriver playboat I would definitely get a small. For running class 5 whitewater get a medium. I would say 165 would be the cut off for the small. It has a decent amount of volume.

    Ah, I also wanted to ask you how is 232 compared to the Machete 65 in the different classes you used in your Machete vid in order to evaluate it ?

    • @DownstreamV
      @DownstreamV  Před rokem

      They are pretty similar to be honest. The maxhete is a bit easier to get vertical. The 232 is easier to surf and loop and a bit better down river.

    beginner 1/2 slice?

    • @DownstreamV
      @DownstreamV  Před rokem +1

      It’s great for all levels imo but if someone said what half slice to put a beginner in I would say this one.
