- Three records, five beats. That’s how A-Trak decided to play it on this very special episode of Rhythm Roulette. The owner and founder of record label Fool’s Gold entered Good Records, donned the blindfold, and cooked up so many great beats we just had to include them all. He also shared a few indispensable tips for aspiring producers along the way.
Join A-Trak at The Goldie Awards, a DJ and producer battle series taking place November 8th at Brooklyn Steel!

Harry Fraud should be on "Rhythm Roulette." @MassAppeal
i agree
La música de Harry Fraud! Agreed!
Cigarette Boats is timeless man, Frauds a genius.
This.
@ 9:57 - That's a quintessential Harry Fraud sample
This series is so important.
Its for the culture
You’re right, it documents a whole new age and process in music making
It's more than that; it shows how DJs used to create music back in the day. When DJ's say that the 70's were so important for the development of modern music, this is why.
He did his thing for real. He also made a separate beat with each album. One of the best hands down!
I used to see this dude scratching records in my boy's garage back in 94. Awesome to see both him and his brother (lead singer of Chromeo) doing big things now
Wasn't he only 11/12 back then?
What people need to understand about this series is that people are pickin' records, AT RANDOM...LET THAT SINK IN..now that the message hopefully has seeped into whoever's brain it needed to, not every rhythm roulette is gonna be dope because while some folks are only able to build concepts/ideas within the given frame of their particular style others may discover somethin' on records that they might be able to flip in a way the viewer gets excited about. That's based on people's preferences, but again the nature of this series is to showcase the process of making a beat at random. Sometimes it turns out straight coconuts other times it's just ok and the rest is just meh,(maybe even trash). If you're a beatmaker you understand this principle because not every beat we make is worthy of being released to the public because we deem it so. I appreciate Mass appeal for inviting artists from different genres. I know it helps me grow as a beatmaker and expand upon what I want my sound to eventually sound like. Just a suggestion, but maybe try lookin' through the lens of objectivity instead subjectivity, see where that takes you, cheers!
I disagree. Mr. Porter made 3 bangers off one disco album, and disco is the hardest thing to sample. Marco Polo had 3 songs.
@@TuMalditaMadre you're entitled to your opinion, but also that might be because those beatmakers you mentioned fit your preferences. What do I know though?! I'm just a guy tryin' to watch this RR platform objectively and take what I hear both from the sound these artist put forward from the records they utilize and the sonic advice they might voice, with a grain of salt, I take it all into consideration.
Disco is easy as fuck to sample what do you mean? Literally a whole genre was formed by sampling disco. Some of these tunes were absolute trash, I wouldn't even want to try sample them. One sounded like that fucking song off sponge bob. Props to A-trak for trying with these
I think you described it perfectly. We live in the microwave era where everybody wants high quality at the fastest speed. Yes some are able to achieve this , but it goes right back to your point. These records are picked at random. I’m sure if the records were actually picked by the producers, every single Rhythm Roulette would be fire. Great point.
Edit: I'm in school right now, so I can't really work on my production the way I want to, but if anyone wants to see that I'm not all talk they can on soundcloud. Name is Wsdm[W.o.W.] Check me out when you have a chance. I changed the name stylistically for my soundcloud from Wsdm[W.o.W.] to W§dm[W.o.W.] Just thought I'd update for those interested.
Even though I am not a fan of his style, I appreciate that he knows how to sample and the effort he is putting in. Good episode.
slickvisualpoetry At least your being honest though
yeah even though i gravitate towards more traditional boom bap ways of flipping samples, its super dope how he showed a completely new workflow on how to flip samples
slickvisualpoetry and how much fun he has!
Never stop making these
Jesus he killed the third record
He did, that sample fire tho"
Don’t sleep on the 80s
Is this Rhythm Roulette or Master Class? A-Trak just took us to school.
Phantom Contender Both lol
Best one I've seen on a long while
Agree. He killed it. One of the best Rhythm Roulette ever!
@@CaptainVita absolutely agreed. one of the best episode
quality over quantity
He did an EP!
Dub K Beatz Yo, I was thinking the same thing! I definitely rock those joints in the car!
@TroubleChizzy2010 the video is 13min, not the process
How it's called?
A-Trak is hiphop at heart but this dude is such a versatile producer and been jumping different genres through his whole career.
This guy is really a good producer. Those last two, were flames.
love that he was able to work so efficiently and get several ideas mapped out.
*yelling through megaphone out of window*
"RHYTHM ROULETTE IS GOOD AGAIN!!!"
Props to A Trak for actually wanting to Rhythm Roulette and making it longer than 10 mins. other producers b on this show and act like they wanna b there but they do not cause it only last 3-5 mins.
'll q l.p.
Y'all should bring Romil Hemnani though
Success Phage that would be fire fat bari and Kiko too
Shit would be crazy for sure...
He and the rest of BH dont do samples too much
yes.
Gia Gonzalez they sampled the wii theme and a trumpet sample for the main riff in boogie, they sampled beyonce, they sampled themselves and flipped it and theres more
Goes to show what's possible when you have skills and patience. He put in work to get those beats and did a damn nice job. Definitely one of the better Rhythm Roulette's posted in a while.
This was so refreshing. Thank you Mass Appeal and A-Trak... also loved that he used legitimate random records and made great stuff with each.
Props for using all the records. Remember the funk ain't in the record, its in your fingers...
MAKE IT HAPPEN.
where tf u sticking those fingers lol. some ass then your mouth
nicolas jaar would be a dream to have on
TheEjaay I was just thinking the same while watching this one
I really hope this happens
Legendary
Holy shit that would be something, AAL is too fire
Praying for this
3:08 for heavy spongebob vibes
At the gaaaaay baaaar '
A few moments later...
"Don't sleep on the 80's" my maaaaaan.
"I watch a lot of the episodes, so I was psyched to come in." yea there probably wasn't much pressure after watching the more recent ones...
Randy Brown I know u ain’t talkin about fish narc :)
THE LAST 2 BEATS A-TRAK DID WERE PHENOMENAL OMGGG 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Get Flamingosis on the show.
Yung Bae & SWUM
PLEASE YESS!
Ey king
Agreed
YASSSSS
This series has contributed to the culture in so many ways. Keep it up Mass Appeal.
It's amazing how much talent is packed into this guy. He's hands down one of the most versatile and capable DJ's on the planet. His production ability is next level as well. I'll be 80 years old bumping Duck Sauce in the nursing home.
Dope. Check out DJ A-trak Technics dmc world championship from when he was 15. Veteran
I wanted to comment "my how he got all grown up"before i saw your comment :P
HERE FOR THIS.
These beats were all perfect! This is the best Rhythm Roulette I've seen in over a year!
This was just absolutely fun to watch. Really crazy uses of those samples. Thanks for this!
Now this is what i like someone was patient enough not to only use all three but create three different joints. I mean if you can only create one cool but sometimes its like they dont even listen try.
I would love to see Knxwledge or Madlib on here next
Neither would ever do this lol
I think that's the general concensus to be fair
Madlib would make one ugly beat to piss off everybody, then return to his cave to mixing silence
Bruh I'd love that.
@@ihpron for real though haha they'd be like hell na I'm good
Do one with Ta-Ku, or Timbaland
they cant afford timbaland
you will here never see a real legend producer besides large professor
@@g_o-a_t You missed Erick Sermon. He's a legend as a mc and producer
Ta-Ku would be great!
One of my favorites. This guy is dope!
Yesss! A-Trak is an incredible DJ/Producer that is really about hit craft so I knew this was going to be a great episode. 🔥
13min ep dug from the international section, I've got a feeling this one be spicy. Shoutout to the RR redemption arc
Muy caliente, indeed. Third record beats remind me of timbaland & busta in the studio circa 2006, instant vibe
Tbh this one of the most creative and scary beats from all the production so far. Miles ahead.
A-trak is dope, i remember him winning dmc at 15,,, my age at the time. He's dope, not sure how legitimately live he does boiler room sessions, who does.. Still, I've a new found respect for Mr Trak 😎
This Guy A-Trak is truly talented and amazing and he killed his Rhythm Roulette Challenge!! Just Thinking out loud!!
I can’t believe he made some Chicago House Music on that first one!
I’ve hoped and prayed for this A-Trak is 🔥🔥🔥
Simple Minds was my heavy rotation album back in 1983 and now A-Trak is my favorite. The loop is now complete. Long live 2 both
This guy killed it.
I'm sitting here listening and he really made 5 dope beats!!! The 1st, 3rd, and 5th are my faves! The 5th seems kinda simple but it's still dope.
The year will tell you what they vibe was for that particular artist or group but the year really does tell you some much about what type of sound/s are being produced and the story behind it.
PLEASE DO MONTE BOOKER AND MARTIN $KY!!!! PLEEEAAAASSEEEEE
Monte could use the sound of the turntable crashing on the floor and make it sound good 😂
James Gordon lmaaao big fax
Edvīns Zavolžskis monte booker please 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 he would fuck this up
Edvīns Zavolžskis MONTE BOOKER PLEASE
that simple minds Flip is CRAAAAAZZZZY
This is awesome watching Atrak the master producer at work creating a beat
Yo I could watch these alllllll day. Love this new series yall got going on over here.
Smashed it! That 80s beat was fire!!!
Big up to the Canadian legend 🔥
Lol wow I didn't know that he was Canadian.
JEFFMAN90 Yeah, I want to say he's from Alberta...somewhere out west, can't remember.
Nah. He's from Montreal.
Mark Hughes Right...totally forgot that he's from mtl.
Crushed it - this guy can do it all, win battles, chop up samples ... picked some dope records too deng
Fun watch, thanks for being on the show.
This is hella dope, I’m here for this clicked so fast.
Representing MTL to the fullest and he really went to town on each record.Very noice
ONE THE BEST I'VE SEEN RHYTHM RULLETE...
Damn! those last two beats were CRAZY
damn 5 fire beats in 1 episode. Litty
Thumbs up if you noticed Akai MPK49 to M-audio Keystation 49 to Akai MPK49 again. :-)
I peeped that
yeah what's the point of that? they both do the same thing essentially
They probably filmed it on more than one day.
great video love all the beats you rock thanks guys !!!!!
I'm so glad this video exists!
I never looked at this man the same after someone said he looks like a white version of big Sean on genius decoded
Dude is a beast
FINALLY!!!!! A REAL episode....
I would -play all of those, sick episode. Well done A-trak!
He did really well with what he had.
8:15 I liked the beat he made out of Simple Minds' 'Promised You A Miracle'.
djdrwatson There were better choices on that record. Shoulda chopped up “Somebody Up There Likes You”. But he tore up the pea patch, all around.
Top 3 people that should go on rhythm Roulette should be, Johnny Juliano, Alchemist, Harry Fraud
i cant believe there still no alchemist one, there should be like 5 alchemist ones lol
I'm pretty sure there's already an alchemist one
The Alchemist did his own version already.
REAL6 what’s it called?
BeatsByStradlater where?
7:00 to 7:36 sounds very underwater, very spacy and very futuristic. That part, 9:33 to 9:38 and 11:00 to 11:25 are my kinda vibes! I LOVE IT!!!! Awesome job!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Love it when the intro MPC clip syncs up wit the beat playin in the background lol
earl woulda snapped on the Ethiopian joint.
Nice change of pace - that LFO tool did wonders to that sample @ 8:06
wow he has squeezed out the essence off these records and made fucking mad beats!
This has to be one of the greatest series in the entire CZcams cosmos. Very entertaining and enjoyable to watch! Unfortunately, there are only 112 episodes left to watch for me :-D :-D :-D
Y'all gotta get DJ U-Neek (Bone Thugs producer)
jt86tn whooo that’d he hard
That's a fact and a half!
That would be interesting cos he doesn't sample much. If u listen to BONE's stuff he replays stuff rather than sample.
@@Nomasiac He's got some good samples from the E.1999 days. My hope would be that he could come with that '95-'96 DJ U-Neek style. That would be dope!
This comment speaks 2 my soul...1 of my favs
This was not bad to me A-Trak is a dope DJ and most DJ's can transition to Producer pretty well. Also yo straight looks like George Michael's son in this VID ... lol!!
A-Trak is fucking awesome. This is by far my number one Rhythm Roulette episode that I have watched over and over again for hours. Maybe I can use this inspiration somehow!
Awesome! The legend finally
I like his style. Goes straight in...not over thinking and NOT GETTING HIGH TO MAKE BEATS.
👍🏾
NOT GETTING HIGH TO MAKE BEATS.. i agree
why not, its super fun to do drugs and make beats?
@@kickaholken9798 if it works for you, more power to ya!
3:07 went into spongebob mode
Man this show is official!
Now THIS is an episode!!!!! That last beat sound like a Lil Wayne type
9:58 David Guetta - The World is Mine
Yup, I heard that & was like 'Man, where did I hear that before?" :)
The same hahaha
Alex Krutëv YES!!! Knew this comment would be somewhere.
The world is mine
Have you seen him slay the DMC contest when he was 14? One of my favorite DJ/ Producers for sure. I knew this episode wouldn’t disappoint and wow 5 different beats! So dope!
The last two we're f***in fire🔥💯👏
Cesc Fabregas in the thumbnail?
Can't unsee it 😂😂
😂
That third beat needs cudi on it
Sample at 9:58 is "Someone Somewhere (In Summertime) by Simple Minds" also used by David Guetta for "The World Is Mine".
Well done very creative, perfect match of digital & analog.
2:09 the world is mine by “david guetta”
Lots of Scarface (the movie) vibes on these beats.
I'm diggin the last beat. I like that style the best.
This is a great idea. I want to do this, but I know nobody knows or cares who I am, so I'm just gonna go do it on my own for fun, and post the results online. Thanks for the inspiration!
please get medasin on this
