As soon as I saw this video, I immediately started ordering as many cards as I could to get this deck up and running. Finally got the cards all in and am in LOVE with this deck!
TheManaSource How about the stable at least 20% monoB had last standard season? :P For me, Wizards is showing, what hopycrites they really are. They don't ban because they think it's necessary, but becasue they don't "like" certain cards in the format. -.-
They banned it because it had become unbeatable. Abzan was 30% of the field because it's a solid, proven deck and most pros didn't have the balls to try something new. In the end only 2 abzan and this podless got to the top 8, only one got top 4 and the final ended up being twin vs amulet combo, so I don't see a problem with abzan's position right now. I get why pod players are upset since they lost their deck but the ban was necessary, pod had become a bad match up for basically any other deck! Zoo? pod is a bad match up. Twin? bad match up. Control? bad match up. Abzan? 50/50. Amulet? good if you combo off turn 3 bad otherwise. Burn? bad match up. Storm? bad match up. Even delver with cruise had a bad time against pod.
progste I actually agree with the pod banning. It was to much of a hot potato to be left unchecked, and the abzan pod deck was just really powerful. But you have to admid, it's still strange how wizards takes bannings. MonoB was a thing and they didn't ban it.

wow! i didn't know you could turn around a deck that's based around birthing pod it to a actually good deck again. plus its modern! lucky i had half of these cards and now i can actually start showing my face at magic night again! thanks Wedge i owe you one!
I play a variant of this deck, I swapped out voice's for restoration angel and hierarchs for thragtusk's. I've consistently been able to beat twin and burn. It's about 60/40 against other abzan decks but I usually win due to life gain and creature advantage through bouncing my creatures out of harms way.
While not in my colors, I always appreciate the sideboard tech. Attending my first Big modern tourney in the morning, wish i would have watched this video last week....lol
I usually don't play modern. But I do like the deck. G/w was the first colors I ran when I first started playing magic. I love g/w. Specially back in the day of the odyssey block with phantoms. I use to have a tribal phantom deck. I really think alot of the azban cards would work well with the phantoms like phantom neishba or phantom natuko. Theres alot of synergy with those cards.
mine too. Actually I put some phantoms in my white/green/black edh deck with Daghatar the Adamant as my commander. Of course I am not good at commander.I am still learning on how to build a commander deck. I want to build a red/blue commander deck with red and blue artifact synergy by modifiying my Built from scratch deck. I never really used Anurid Brushopper though. But I really do wish wizards would bring back phantoms they would work so well with alot of the azban strategy of pump with counters
It's easy to see why this deck does so well in competition. We have heard a lot of people say it is impossible to build Modern competitive decks on a budget. Do you feel the same way?
i switched over to Abzan from bant. Bant is nice, but it's a bit of a problem child. it wants to be one aggro midrange, but i just can't quite be. i'm the only blue cards in the deck were three William Howard Trafts. they were nice, but they were only effective turn two or after a surprise Collective Company. i used four of the five swords, elspeth, and 3 collected company. My strategy was to fill my deck with efficient < 3 drop creatures, poop down a CC at the end of their turn, and blast through to the win. it's one of two reasons why i am reluctantly playing 2 rhinos. the other being i only have 2 rhinos. I'm also thinking about using Doran-Doran. Disruption, and the only creature that doesn't benefit from him are my two finks. Also, Secret sideboard for Splinter twin, Illness in the ranks ;3c
I really want to get into this format, and I really REALLY like this deck, and I was thinking of putting Avatar of the Resolute from Dragons in here. I was also considering trying Abzan Ascendancy but I'm not sure where this would work.
Would you be willing to do sideboard tech against the deck your covering? It'd help us know what to watch out for games 2 and 3. Also, it'd be nice to know how to shut the deck down (which would be huge with this particular deck).
Hey wedge love your vids really gets me to jam more magic :P, for a challenge if you looking for one why not try create a decent SUNBURST old school deck? a hard archetype to get right and very very few ppl tried running it, could be fun to try tho :D.
Looks pretty awesome. I have a Standard Abzan Aggro and I like it alot. I have thought alot about going into Modern since Standard is so expensive which is an issue since I have a limited budget. Are there any good budget Modern deck options to help a new player break into the format?

Since twin was banned a while back, would you make any changes to the thoughtseize count? Most variants I see main 2 and run scavenging ooze over pridemage, any thoughts on that? Also, I've been testing the new Thalia and she's pretty brutal
Wedge, no mention of Abrupt Decay in the sideboard? Probably the best card to bring in against Splinter Twin. I'm playing three thoughtseize mainboard cause burn and aggro are more prevalent in my meta, but threw 2 Inquisition and 3 Decay in the sideboard to handle the annoying matchups. Fracturing Gust on the affinity players is hilariously funny.
Its a good deck vs its counter part that is Abzan with more than just creatures, which is why it was used in the tournament. Overall, though, the reason its not the greatest deck is because it loses to Combo pretty bad, maybe not much twin, but other more unfair decks. It also loses to pure control insanely bad, but like i said the reason to play this deck is to beat Abzan, not Jeskai Control. It also probably ok to boggles too, but not so bad since theres some good enchantment removal I'd say its decent FNM deck but bad GP deck
maelstrom pulse is sorcery so it's pretty bad against twin, vs twin the best cards are thoughtseize, inquisition of kozilek, abrupt decay, path to exile. Ethan Ford Ford you have white, play wrath of god if you want that effect (but why woulld you?)
Nice Deck Tech! Abzan is es great color-mix!! You have access to great removal, creatures and control spells! So this will be always very hard to beat. Did you played thisdeck in a few fnm-tournaments already? Great vid. Thx I will build up an new Grixis-Control Deck without Lili. I think Tasigur will fit in really good. PJP2810 Just a tip. It doesn't really make sense to make a budget version of these decks. You're much better off abandoning the concept of Wilt-Leaf Smiter aggro with thoughtsieze and path to exile back up and instead starting with a new idea, like Blue/White Flicker or Hatebears or Soul Sister. Just my opinion.
i don't play modern yet, i'm still too casual for that,but even if those are my colors, its not mid-range/controlling enough for my taste, like there's no "Stave Off" nor "Treasured Find"/"Immortal Servitude" effects and if i play exalted, i always bring my loyal Knights of Infamy/Glory... and finally, even if overall the deck is pretty sweet and probably much more powerfull than mine, i didn't see any angels nor demons... so yah, i euhm, i can't play that deck!!! XD
It's also REALLY up there in price. It's the one turn off about Modern, although what do you play? Decklist? :D Always interested in what people are playing casually.
***** it do mather, because since i dont play them i dont have their cards, And since they are strong i will meet alot of people who play them and its annoying. also, a real magic player prefers variety, not just one kind of deck that is really similar except some other cards.

The last creature in this deck is siege rhino. You didn't need to add that Wedge. You didn't even need to mention it.

Ugin in tron. Wedge UGIN IN TRON. Swap in 2 for o stone and all is dust because he does that on a stick with a bolt next turn if you survive.

Why not play Yisan, the Wanderer Bard instead of Birthing Pod, from my testing it is a great replacement

How do you feel about maelstrom pulse in the side? Seems to go pretty well against twin.
MTG Deminz Pulse is fine. I have nothing against it in particular.

How about twin flames instead for splinter twin, you have the ability to deal more damage because you don't have to tap your creature to make a copy.
Its ok wedge, nothing new ever happens in vintage. But you better do make a video once it does ^^

I think I'd drop the Kitchen Finks in favor of Malestrom Pulse. I feel that it's a better decision with all the Abzan running around.

Dawg Manila Abzan or Splinter Twin is most expensive. Burn is cheapest.
If you have a wilt lief liege in play and a creature that is both green and white, does that creature get +2/+2?
yes, hence why all the non-mana producing creatures are both green and white as is the tokens the voice makes.
