What is a Good Mindset for BJJ Competitions ?

- Having a good mindset for BJJ competitions is tough. Competitions kick up the anxiety and the nerves like almost nothing else does. Not to mention we're all a little different.
When I was younger and newer to Brazilian Jiu-jitsu I would compete and I always felt like i underperformed. I would watch my matches and in most cases I felt like I was better than what I displayed on the mat.
As I'll share in the video. Many times I was too concerned with everything else, other than how I planned to win. I would be afraid of letting people down, afraid of the other Brazilian Jiujitsu competitors and just focused on all the wrong things. When I would compete with this mindset I would be so nervous to pull the trigger and go for my techniques.
So what is a good mindset for BJJ competitions or what's the best mindset for BJJ competitions?
Again, we are all a little different so the idea of "best" is different for everyone in Brazilian Jiu jitsu.
But in this video I share what mindset has worked best for me and helped me reach more success as a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Black Belt than I experienced at any other belt. The mindset involves focusing more on yourself, your abilities and how you plan to win.
This has helped me reach a much more focused and efficient state of mind when it comes to competing in BJJ.
Thanks again to Max for the question. I hope this video helps brother!

Perfect timing! I have my first competition this Saturday
Won my first blue belt competition, this video really helped. Thank you Chewy <3
The sound of your voice is comforting as I sit outside this tourney that is about to begin😅
Chewy - I absolutely love that you don't edit out the part of the video that is "messed up" by cars, bambulances, etc. So authentic!
This is a question I've been grappling with for weeks, my first competition is this Saturday. Your timing couldn't be better brother, helpful as always!
Random thought: watching Chewie's videos feels a bit like watching the old Elliott Hulse's videos back in 2013. Getting that out of the way, thanks for your ideas and perspective! Love your channel and listening to you speak about jiu jitsu. :)
Thank you for sharing your hard earned knowledge coach. You are a genius
I appreciate what you do immensely!
Once i told myself that signing up to a comp means ive already won, this helped me alot
I agree with everything you said when it comes to juijitsu, thank for this video I'm gonna change my style and go after rather than be scared!
First tournament this weekend! Thanks for this.
Excellent. Thank you for this.
Great advice, thank you.
Great advice I’m 48 but feel so strong and fast but come competition I go from blue belt 3 stripe straight to white belt and totally forget everything I need to win because I worry about committing and looking a dork but your right brother better to lose trying than not 👍👍👍
Tomorrow I'm fighting in my first competition EVER (in any sport) at a round robin tourney in MD. I just wanna show up, feel okay, and do jiu jitsu. Thanks for the advice! Love your channel!
Tomorrow at 9am I'll be fighting for the first time. Thanks for the video and wish me luck.
